A close friends daughter has been fighting this cancer crap for a long time now. She's starting a bone marrow transplant at UCLA as of yesterday. Sherry (her mom) e mailed me something Savanah wrote and I thought it was pretty freekin bad ass, thought I'd share it here. First would be the kids, hate to work hurt kids. Second hardest part of my job is family. A patient is a patient, but working a patient with family present is really hard, and thats where emotions sometimes understandably run very high, especially on something like a full arrest where the patient is on the living room floor. Yeah, thats pretty tough stuff. Unfortunately the "save" percentage for full cardiac arrest is extremely low. I completely realize Im "working" while this is is a huge, traumatic situation that effects a whole family, and thats where it gets tough. I only have a brief part in peoples tragedies. I now have a "unique" connection to a seriously (2nd and 3rd degree, 48% of his body) burned 3 year old little boy. He is at, and will be at for several more months, a burn center in So. Cal. I havent seen him since the incident, and Im going to stop and see him friday on my way to San Diego. I want to bring him something. I dont know what, but something special. A stuffed animal or something doesnt seem appropriate. I dont know, something that will help him in his long road ahead?? Throwing this out here for suggestions. Well, Michele, pretty darn cool layin here on the couch, where I intend to sit pretty much all day Supposed to be 109 here in Bakersfield today, and muggy as hell. I work in the desert so if I aint gots to be in the heat, I aint gonna be in it.
