IMHO only - I would make that the rule for all the lanes, not just left lane I don't think people should drive more than 10 mph over OR under the posted target speed (under normal conditions). If I'm 10 mph faster OR slower than the other car our closing speed is the same. and as said before - we should have speed 'targets', not just a top limit ... I'm not a fan of speed top end limits. I'd rather see a posted range that you have to stay inside of. And penalize equally for being under the same as over. e.g., 65 +/- 10 (you have to be between 55 and 75 for normal conditions). But if we want a 'fast' lane, it should just have a posted higher speed than the others. Then it's very clear that's the purpose of that lane. But whining about a car going 65 in a 65 (or 60 in a 65) is just childish and people need to layoff the coffee. IMHO of course. ... I agree also that she contributed to escalating the other guy's bad choices - and maybe she's someone that looks to do that regularly. HOWEVER, the tailgator is still 100% responsible for his choices and the results regardless if she was blocking or not. He gets no free pass for his tantrum. passive aggressive (no matter how irritating) is nowhere even in the ballpark of someone being directly aggressive and reckless. Driving near the speed limit and staying in a single lane isn't a crime. And no one is under obligation (legally or even as a courtesy) to move out of the way to allow assholes to speed. I don't view her in the 'same light' at all. If she would have SLAMMED on the brakes or something prior to turning on her camera, that I would consider being the same thing. (Though I wouldn't be surprised if she did....) regardless, I'd rather have both off the road ... I think it's a bit silly. If the family wants to have a ceremony to mourn, they can have one. Frankly, if the patient wants the leftovers to facilitate mourning or reflect over, I would bet 'most' hospitals would find a way to safely accommodate it. But they have to ask. If they don't, the facility has to have a 'default' process to dispose of it. I find it plenty respectful, especially when cremation is a perfectly acceptable way to dispose of even tissue that's decades old before death also (for the slow ones here, yes, I'm talking about 'grandpa'). For the OP, what do you want them to do? Force the patient to hold a mourning ceremony for those that don't have your same philosophy? (How left wing can that be?) ... like - own property, shoot guns, decide what type of lightbulb I want to buy, decide for myself who gets my charity dollars, invest my retirement money how I want to? or like - kill that guy, take his wallet, dance with redheads, jump a tiny canopy, eat too much fatty foods? or like - not work but still have a nice house, keep potheads out of my workplace and fun zones, drive drunk? I think we'll need a few categories: I suggest 3 at least 1 - No problem, as long as they do it to everyone 2 - Absolutely not 3 - Meh and I know a few here that would like to add 4 - not me, but everyone else and a nod to the radicals 5 - not people that think like me, but all those other heretics ... Wendy understands. And your second paragraph isn't that silly. I don't consider the amendments 'granted' those rights. They confirmed that those rights were applicable to all. The tactical people wanted to address the short term issue and made it specific. If they had been more focused on the big picture, (re-affirmation that these rights are not restricted) would have sent a more positive message, and been more universal. In short - granting rights - to any specific demographic is a statement that things changed - but no one was wrong (i.e., the inherent assumption you noted) but - affirming rights to all - is a statement that we fixed a mistake. it seems minor, but I don't think it really is ... another thought is that removing some of the more belligerent and biased anti-discrimination laws might let it fade faster, not slower. I think there is a tipping point where fewer laws will improve the situation while more laws will worsen it. It's about it becoming a societal norm vs obtusely forcing it by law. (setting expectations can be much more effective that just attempting to dictate behavior) Frankly, it seems like most laws being proposed today are simply no value added, or, even worse, laws that propogate more discrimination despite how they are being sold as the opposite. Or even just barely disguised attempts at political showmanship with not even an ability to enforce - cosmetic only. The fact that it's being debated now about which side of the tipping point we are now on is likely a good sign that we've crossed it. clean 'em up, reduce to the minimum and make them completely neutral to support all individuals equally - that would be a great step forward Edit: and then I read the rest of your exchange with Bolas and see you guys are already talking those points pretty well....it's funny how people view the purpose of laws - some people are rather strategic about it, others are a lot more narrow and tactical about it - it really drives very different expectations/baselines ... I suspect that 99.99% of fiscal conservatives want the government to spend less because they think that's best for the country and best for individuals. Characterizing the entire group by the remaining minute fraction that want less spending because they don't like the people that get all sorts of benefits (some reasonable, some idiotic like 'cell phones' is really silly, some counter intuitive like corporate welfare). Much like like characterizing all government spending as being purposefully wasteful just for the sake of jealousness of rich people. both are equally narrow minded and petty and simply trolling and lazy here. maybe it's 90% reasonable and well meaning vs 10% rabid far wingers - or if speakers corner maybe 60/40 ... this really is the point of the matter, isn't it? Is it true? - #1 - I think you, me, Davjohns, and the like..... think or hope or want to live our lives thinking that we've evolved to this point as a society. #2 - The other guys don't think we are there yet. Or, just like to act, or live their lives, as if we are not there yet. #3 - Or, most of us are there by now, but the laws are in place for the remnant that haven't caught up....(I think is likely the most probable). #4 - and then the odd balls that just like to make noise and try to control society through law - assholes all and not likely too many of them out there I don't know who's correct. But I know I like the vision of the #1. It mean we live our lives and trust that others will live their lives and that most people genuinely do want to be decent to each other. The alternative sucks, we don't trust our fellow man. #1 is the place we have to get to - because real evolution comes from people choosing to do the right thing, not laws that force people to do the right thing (I agree with DavJ on that, forcing the issue likely makes the transition take longer and be more difficult) I suspect one's perspective comes from their own view of themselves and how they were brought up. Frankly, there's enough difference between people, the #3 up there means some maintenance by law is still necessary - despite my desire for a better world. ask yourself - self interest in general is a good thing with decent people, not so much for crappy humans. Do you disregard self interest if it would be unfair to others (good people)? Do you think there are those that would also disregard self interest just to be petty or stupid (crappy people)? Do you think there are also people that are short sighted enough not recognize self interest vs short term gratification (just plain ignorant people)? ...
