student needs to train with his instructor, not random internet posters.....so this thread is done and ready for a tangent/digression then So any experienced instructor here - hypothetically, what situation can you think of to justify giving up at 8500 feet and dumping a student that you have a hold of? Other than it's a REALLY wild ride and I KNOW I'm losing my grip (or I'm hurt during the tumble) - I can't think of one. I'll keep working and teaching until I know my hard deck will be compromised. Ours is defined as 3999, but between 4 and 4.5 I'd go ahead and dump him if the tumble is still not controlled. ... Doug: remember that you 're a mod now. You don't need to suck up so bad.... it's bonfire - 3/4ths of the suck up cliches haven't even been offered here yet and I proud that DSE has decided to prime the pump - I'm pretty disappointed that someone hasn't tossed out "women that skydive are hot" just as another suck up - that one's usually out within 3 posts - mostly just the whole "personality vs appearance" and the "look inside" rote script ... agreed, much like tax cuts reduction of social programs vouchers for school partial privatization of SS "green" initiatives "infrastructure" defense etc etc etc EVERYTHING is about "election repercussions" votes and maintaining incumbency, so stating this is an issue with military type policy is jaded at best, and blind at worst - or just tired old bitching about one half of the government for all your problems without acknowledging the other half does the exact same thing ... You have 40 jumps and haven't jumped for 2 months. Your main is fine. But your gear familiarity isn't. Open it up, review your gear (refamiliarize), repack just because. Plus, after 2 months without a jump, at least playing with the rig gives some consolation. I repack after 3 or so months just to look at the rig, air out the (now) brick of a main, clean it all up, general gear check. But that's just a personal choice not really based on anything other than my comfort level - plus I actually like taking care of the rig. ... That's how the debate is defined - and pretty much any other political/social issue. It makes it easier to defend the side one chooses (or is instructed to choose). Fun. For example - you want lower taxes - response? "do you use roads and schools?" For example - you want to allow fathers to have a say in their offspring - response? "you think forcible rape to perpetuate faulty genes is a good thing?" For example - you think conservation is a good thing - response "you want people to live in caves and eat bark" For example - you think environmental regulation is arbitrary and no value added - response "the world is going to end" ... just talk to your instructor and fix the problem - people here can reassure that your experience wasn't anything unusual, but that's about it - sounds like you were tumbling, or if you were spinning you were on your back and when the instructor caught you, it is unlikely she dumped you at 8500 ft - more like 4500 again, sit with your instructor and get it worked out and enjoy your next training jump - learn what you can from this one and keep the 'feel' of the good jumps in your head almost everyone has different problems in AFF to learn through - your experience isn't anything out of the ordinary - retrain, relax, rejump ... you're starting see what's going on? if you have a "D" or an "R" and you are in politics and make a gaff. not in DD's world - in that world, not only does Airspeed hide the 'secret stuff', they purposely teach incorrect technique, approach other teams during dirtdives and talks them into doing the wrong draw, and sabotages gear on the other teams too. utter bullshit - they couldn't care less about your subjective social agendas based on thievery - they are more worried about the heavy thinkers coming up their own competitive businesses during their time off, but that's the trade off for developing even better employees. In fact, if you establish an excellent employee and encourage them, sometimes that employee comes up with businesses that benefit you and them at the same time and create even more jobs. ... I am not thrilled when people choose to speak this way (calling for pitchforks or shooting people - I think 'targets' are harmless - we can target profits - we can target success in AFF - we can target that girl in the bar - etc). But I am more against government banning speech that they will define as they see fit. I'm concerned at how they'd apply it in practice (take the House speeches from the last couple days, ....seriously?! "you Reps have to stop this hate filled speech.....you nazi baby killing assholes that should be knifed on sight" - do you want THAT guy defining "illegal speech"?) Even now, they aren't using the 'courtesy agenda' to be more civil - they are staging it to stifle dissent of opposing opinions - "your speech is bad, mine is perfectly fine." People can hear these things and anyone with a brain will recognize it for either the hyperbole, or analogous rhetoric is really is. Anyone looking to conduct a shooting spree will find their own justification and use this or manufacture something else to rationalize what they want to do anyway. Or they might just do it without any prompting. ... I have no issue with that either. My position is that when we draw this INCREDIBLY SUBJECTIVE legal line, that error in the direction of allowing speech and trusting individuals. Are you saying that we need to error to the side of less responsibility and more authority? Or is it just perception that we're not EXACTLY drawing the line in the exact same place? You can make a ton of examples that are completely over to one side (and I can make a ton of examples that are completely on the other side) and then we can argue against the false propositions that we disagree with each other - but that's nuts. You're wasting my time with that tactic, and your own time. ... I'm good with that - personal responsibility combined with us 'choosing' (or not) to look out for each other without the government dictating how we do that. ...
