  1. this is pretty good right there ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  2. you can't arch effectively with a really wide stance - the hip joint isn't designed to do that legs too wide will also really screw with your manuverability later on when you want to be faster and crisper. It's much more important when you're learning mantis later - not so much during AFF (unless it's screwing up your basic arch) I have students do entire tunnel drills/sessions with their legs actually touching the whole time to learn to break that bad habit. The speed and smoothness of the airflow around your body provides stability, wider is NOT better. In fact wide makes the airflow choppy. On the ground, a wide stance keeps us from falling down. So it's understandable when students (and experienced people - a lot more than you might expect) react to discomfort by spreading way out. But in the air, actually just relaxing smoothly and letting the wind do its work (by giving it a clean path to follow around your body) is better. shoulder width, or even slightly less seems to be ideal but, honestly? you have an AFF instructor working with you - and for your initial learning, sometimes a slightly wider stance helps certain students 'feel' more comfy. you should just work with your instructor and get through initial education. Your hands on instructor knows best. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

    Biomechanics

How about this "you can't really give an effective arch signal to someone with really wide legs - wide legs will result in inability to arch very far due to bone on bone impingment. Give knees together first before the arch signal" or in weight lifting - "Pouring (thumbs down) during shoulder flies restricts the full stroke of the fly. (again, impingment of the shoulder joint" not taught directly, but discussed frequently between coachs and instructors, but these concepts for skydiving coaching is important to avoid jumpers from injuring themselves, and that whole "can't arch with wide legs things" I think is huge for AFF and advance RW teaching. ... 4. this makes sense to me - you aren't going headdown to the 'relative wind' but you are using the prop blast to reduce your throw and get you pointed at the formation right away - eyes on it, and pointed the right way from the get go and you'll be in a nice orientation faster - would work for late float on RW big ways too (it's like "backtracking" to the base - works very nice for steep diving). thanks, I'll try it ... 6. We already do on an annual basis and have been for decades. And don't forget that the cost of the Iraq war. Israel was as much a factor in the decision to invade Iraq as oil was. ABSOLUTELY - we need to stop a long term bad habit this is flushing $$$ for no real return at all - they need to stop it ... 7. Together, initial sighting done, looks great. Ready to practice with it the next good weather weekend (whenever that comes). 1 - it's so much lighter than the old VHS stuff I remember jumping. 2 - I have a ton to learn starting now. thanks for all the info and advice you guys - I take it to heart - this is brand new stuff for me - so like every new discipline I try (about 1 every thousand jumps) I'll listen listen listen ... 9. Currently: 1 - Z1 Fullface (RW, cold days, tunnel, AFF) 2 - Mindwarp - older one (FF, AFF) 3 - New Mindwarp (Camera) modified with a streamlined top mount for cameras (just picked it up yesterday fully ready to go - picture was before the assembly and addition of the mounting plate for the still up front) Critical to me is the fit and visibility. Absolutely, the audible needs to be internally mounted (under the shell). lately, the new helmets have NOT impressed my with the audible pockets (containment). Both of my old helmets we've resewn the containment due to bad glue or crappy design as the audible would just fallout randomly. Better now. Haven't looked at the containment much on the new helmet - hoping it's better. sold or trashed: been through a couple frap hats, another Z1, a protec, an Invertigo Found my last frap hat three years ago in the back of my locker covered with a yellow thick mold of some kind my next fullface, I'm looking for one with less leakage mainly for the tunnel - my eyes dry out. Already a few nice one one the market. It'll be awhile ($$$) ... 11. What if I just want us to stay out of their business now? Obama was arrogant in his proposal and his delivery was like he thought he could dictate to those groups how they should live. It was nasty. AND, in a time when our budget is out of control - he announces he wants to give away a shitload of money to the region. All just to give himself a little bit of air time and to stroke his own ego. How can someone be so consistently wrong so much of the time? He just burned what little good will he earned by letting the Seals do their job a couple weeks ago. STOP SPENDING! Every time he opens his mouth, a billion dollars flies out of it and land on the fire. ... 12. - the only people falling for this kind of religious manipulation here in the states are the worshippers of global warming. Most Americans, if told they'd go to hell based on a vote - would vote against that person on principle. 14. I'd like to, but I just pretty much think your entire leading post is flawed from the start. it's equivalent to a bonfire post of "why are freeflyers all so uptight?" - it's false, overgeneralized, and serves only a tiny group's ego (i.e., people that are crappy at freeflying). ...
