the other interpretation is that quotas of any kind that artificially preference once gender (or race, or any cosmetic item other than talent) over another may discourage talent from those groups getting discriminated "against" (the group NOT preferred) and that's a loss to all but you can read it in the way you like. fake outrage makes a lot of people feel good and it's a lot easier to just take up a strawman position rather than try to understand the point being made (I'm not a big fan of the OPs presentation that the boys club should band together, to fight it, etc type of feel ('gender traitor' is such a crappy term regardless of who uses it, but Arvoitus is not really the most elegant in communications historically). But I'm also just as outraged when women (or any group) does that. I find it completely counterproductive to ANY discussion on hiring equality. I think everybody should join together to fight unfair preferencing of ALL kinds. It helps no one) ... except it's idiotic - and appeals to two classes of social engineering afficianados (I apologize for my spelling) tax a product and it goes into the revenue pool if an expenditure is high enough on the importance pool to be covered under the existing account - then it's funded, if it's not, then it's deleted anything else forces overspending - the only way to really balance is to look at it at a macro way. this level of detail is just a structure for deceit to rationalize bad budgeting habits targeted tax vs spend is simply just a way to fake out more taxes in general. just saying that we are spending it for specific purposes is the sales job to the ignorant to rationalize stealth tax increases. In the end, they take more money from us all - and then spend it however they want ... they investigated that aspect of it because of political pressure due to PC nonsense hate crimes are a joke - kill someone because of their skin or kill someone because you don't like their shirt or kill someone because they bumped you accidentally in the bar or kill someone to steal their wallet once you eliminate killing for defense or protection, the rest are illegal killing - why is one worse than the other? if George Zimmerman would have walked up behind a kid in a hoodie and shot him while never ever seeing the kid's skin color - how can someone claim that that would be any LESS of a travesty? ... that's a tough one do you really want the cops deciding which laws to enforce and which to ignore? I guess I'd agree if the cop sees a murder, and a jaywalk, happening at the exact same time - I'd expect him to go chase the murderer. we'll see - it could still just be a PR stunt but if both sides would just put out their vision - without the bashing and lying about each other - and then let US decide what we like. Man arrested for Bible study... in the U.S.
rehmwa replied to Rstanley0312's topic in Speakers Corner
this thread has diverged from the OP - IMO? The guy likely crossed the line of good taste and "overdid" it, hoping to hide under the radar of a technicality to do something that's rude to the neighbors. That's nonsense, and it doesn't matter if it's religion or flag burning, or any other issue. Stand in your back yard with a megaphone or bring in scores of people and start 'preaching' about (god, the environment, etc etc etc) and expect the cops to be called if you're breaking zoning laws. If you do it courteously? then most people don't care. I don't think this is a 'bible study' issue, rather it's a rude neighbor issue. ... The guy failed to speak down to the audience. He didn't quote any rhymes, pretend to speak like a preacher, or treat the crowd like lower class idiots or treat them like a huge group of stereotypes like Hillary did or Obama does. He just talked about his positions without any pandering to the crowd. I thought he was the next John Kerry (super rich northeastern panderer), but this was refreshing to see. I wonder if it'll be a consistent thing. It could just have been calculated strategy too. We'll see...... I'd still like a better choice than the two in front of me, but it's slightly better. ... nonsense - Romney is a Chicago style politician that wants to raise taxes, give special subsidies to big business (like the banks, the auto industry, and new green companies). He'll create huge and costly programs to those companies, and then provide executive exemptions for only his buddies. He'll give big subsidies to special technology fronts that produce nothing - maybe under the disguise of solar power or something. In the end, he'll create a huge administrative nightmare cloaking the biggest money grab in the history of the nation - perhaps in power or health care. This and more - that damn Robomney. ... true - they often imagine that statements engraved 100-200 years ago on public structures is a GRAVE threat to their belief system and they must be removed. Simple statements like "don't kill each other" etc - usually pretty worn anyway. Or statements printed on currency that no one reads. Why, they go up in arms and out of control about it.!!!!! every single one of them, no exceptions, are absolutely obsessed about it. every one won't someone please think of the children! ... it's not the subject that causes this, it's the individual - if one person would use education to feel superior, I suspect the same person would use their faith, or whatever else is handy to shore up their ego if education wasn't a divider. hell, look at most newbie skydivers in non-skydiving social scenarios, it's comical sometimes - they think they've found some kind of special club edit: ooops - Keely beat me too it edit: edit - apparently twice, once responding to the first post, the second to Billvon's stock over generalization on the topic - people are individuals, I don't think generalized rules are really value added in terms of social judgment calls (IMO) ... I'm assuming it's a lot like when John Kerry would berth his yacht in another state to avoid huge tax bills And was rightly criticized for it. Is Kerry running this year? Did he win in 2004? It's more a comment about who's whining - the dems sure didn't critize Kerry at that time. And the Reps aren't criticizing Romney like they should either. Even your response here (IMO - you could have simply written the first line) is clearly a desire to deflect the FAIR comparison of party dynamics because you want to pretend only one side does it. ... I'm assuming it's a lot like when John Kerry would berth his yacht in another state to avoid huge tax bills The difference is that Kerry was calling for higher taxes on the wealthy, while at the same time doing everything he could to avoid taxes. "hypocrisy" arguments are pointless - both are avoiding taxes using legal means. Even though it's legal, it's a loop hole and they should be rightly criticized. ... Why should ANY income be exempt? Else it just becomes a game of where to set the amount such that enough people get by free to buy each election. Why stop at $10K? how about $45K? does that get 51% of the vote? How about $200K? I know a few here that would like that just fine too. Everybody pays starting at dollar number 1.
