again - in this scenario, do you think you'd still get an emotional lean in a court led by WOMEN? ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  2. +1 the net results is we STILL don't have a party that's 1 - Fiscally conservative 2 - Socially just wants government to mind their own business and let people live their lives how THEY choose we just continue to have have two parties that 1 - love to spend a ton on what they want 2 - want to force their social philosophy on the rest of us (and it's not one of 'live and let live') ... 3. if the sentence is mandatory, there's nothing individual about it. who are you responding to - are you debating me? or agreeing? let's say that standard and mandatory guidelines make a lot of sense, and then judicial discretion should allow for some adjustment based only on the severity of the crime and the individual's likelihood to repeat judicial discretion for pointless criteria (race, age, sex, does their best friend sit on the city council, to "make an example" - - etc etc etc) makes no sense whatsoever and opens the system up for abuse and uneven sentencing for the same crimes ... 4. "cruel and unusual" is so vague it's a big joke seems to me, that the nature of the crime, and the potential for the criminal to repeat is the only real criteria necessary - and I'm not sure why the age thing is important - the character and the ability to rehabilitate is the only thing - and that's something that can only be assessed on an individual basis rather than making some blanket assessment based solely on age ... 6. depends really - do you do the same job in the public sector and get less pay and 1/10th the benefits and have been on a pay freeze for a couple years while that guy gets congressional approval for a pay raise every year? living in Germany - will you be happy to pay for a Greek or Spanish government worker to work 35 weeks a year for twice what you make and then they retire at a full pension at age 50 while you have to work forever to pay it for them? Maybe they'll even change retirement to 45 now that another country is paying the bills. Sounds like great fun. ... you're avoiding the hypothetical - did you have anything invested in that pregnancy and that marriage? apparently, only the legality is the issue? so this is equivalent to you as her having a mole removed then? fixed it - this is the real argument, "men vs women" is the emotional argument that fuzzes it up. I'd hope you'd be just as outraged if a female busybody tried to tell a women what to do with her body. Or you to your body for that matter.. Though it shouldn't change anyone's opinion if they already have one, it's still an important clarification. ... 10. Because the fanatics on the Dem side scare me just a tiny bit more than the fanatics on the Rep side. (this is, on a scale of 1 to 100, in terms of fear, reps 95 out of a 100, dems 98 out of a 100. In other words, the unreasonable fanatics of both sides are REALLY scary) I'm pretty ok with the mainstream people on both sides. Unfortunately, the nuts tend to be the ones that go after power in the groups. Though I'm not signed up to either party. ... Just some guy - a guy that likes savings (I think everybody is agnostic in reality just by how the question is truly defined, then we fool ourselves into other options in whatever way we find best for ourselves. However, I only think that way because I think the actual question is pointless. Other than as a fun debate topic when people are friendly about it) However, I think that comment "I'm not an agnostic because I don't know enough about the question to tell whether it's even answerable at all" has an extraneous "not" in there. I'll go recheck my comment and see if I miswrote something to cause the disconnect. ... 14. The argument that atheism is also a belief really torques off atheists fixed it for ya - atheists that let this bother them just want the impression that they are passively in their camp, rather than making an active choice. I'd contend that passively in the camp is simply agnosticism (for me, it just implies they don't understand the argument about belief without proof naturally has three positions, for it, against it, don't care - with the defined criteria that all three don't know) I'm a fan of don't know, doesn't matter, don't care The only honest position is agnostic. But, if pretending in absolutes helps people get through their day? they can knock themselves out. All the dialogue past that is just semantics, and I made my offering so I'm done with that part. ... 15. rubbish - the EVERYONE with a position is either an agnostic theist, or an agnostic atheist - since, by definition it can't be proven either way. So tagging "agnostic" onto the beginning is pointless or ludicrously redundant. heck - you even include the word "believe" in both your examples....we're parsing words - I note that an absolute position just means someone made a choice in what to believe. So we're not in disagreement here even if you don't like how I worded it ... I don't like that we always include the 'doctor' in the decision discussion. He provides 'input' only and provides the service - just because he's in the process doesn't imply he owns ANY portion of the decision. It's still up to the mother or her designate - even including the father and the family is her duty in terms of doing what's right - but even there, that's still just input. I like your post. actually, that kind of sign would be a much better message than the crap that's normally out there you have no ideas the kind of names you will called for bringing this up. Consider this old thing - 4 scenarios - two have conflict. Is there balance between the decisions - is there any WAY to have balance. 1 - Mother wants to raise the baby, Father wants to raise the baby - no conflict 2 - Mother wants to raise the baby, Father doesn't want to raise the baby - conflict 3 - Mother doesn't want to raise the baby, Father wants to raise the baby - conflict 4 - Mother doesn't want to raise the baby, Father doesn't want to raise the baby - no conflict Who's paying for it - and does it align with the wishes of each? Yes - it doesn't include the option for having it and giving it up for adoption......That gets into the moral side of just letting it live even if you don't want it - this is all about the willingness of each to put the effort and resources into raising the life mass into an adult - this is not about giving birth, but about the desire to be a parent or not Here's where it falls down: Abortion - the woman can choose to have it, and the man can be forced to support it against his wishes the Religious anti-abortions - THEY choose to make her have it and then force HER to support it against her wishes Both positions force someone to choose against their wishes, then forces them to take ownership of the decision they didn't make. I think, either way, the responsibility must go with who makes the decision. And the woman is a lot closer to the situation than a group of strangers (male or female, who cares? it that specific woman in that specific situation - that's why statements about 'women vs men' is also nonsense - it's not the group that matters, it's the potential mother and sometimes the father that only matter in the decision process) ... the clear pandering you are applying to appeal to women's issues. that will allow you to then dominate one for your own personal gain in the short run - then, when she turns in disgust in reality, you are left with a short connection and no requirement to break it off as she runs screaming away pure evil you must be a super 'conservative', er 'liberal', I forget which label is evil this month - something to do with house payments ... 20. My take on it is "I don't know the answer, but I reject your claim that you absolutely know it either". I don't have an issue with that. Atheists and Faithful should be schooled that they are taking a position, not leveraging fact where none exists. It's not a matter of whether either group is right, it is whether they can allow the other side to live alone. The problem with the more fanatical atheists, is that they want to shut down the structure of faith - instead of addressing the individual crimes of the members and instead attribute those to the structure. The converse if true in many instances always. This is the failure of being way too socialist in culture - individuals stop being held accountable and excuses are made to apply to power structures instead of where real responsibility lands. Highly organized religion is a perfect example of what happens if we go too far left. That's why the extremes of both political parties act so similar and achieve the same results - it's the same mind set. In a nation of individuals, group think sucks. But it's the lazy way and easy way. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  21. That combo is self contradictory. Atheist states a conclusive "belief" (they hate it when it's phrased that way) Agnostic states either conclusive belief is not possible (and doesn't likely matter) Frankly, I lean that way, but I just refuse to accept the conclusive term because of the rude fanatics that have hijacked it I think you really just have a big issue with organized religion and have transferred those issues onto individuals of faith rather than the large scale orgs you resent - Frankly, I don't see a real personal belief system from you - faithful, agnostic, or atheist - that appears independent of your angst about big religion. That's pretty common But I suspect it's just your delivery here. Likely, in person, your agnosticism or atheism would be readily apparent ... It's about their ability to own a woman and the generic imperative to copy their genes. Once they get a woman knocked up and she gives birth she's more likely to stay in a bad marriage "for the children." After some time out of the workforce at home with the kids she'll have a much harder time surviving by herself and may stay for the financial security. Obviously that whole process would be easier if she couldn't get birth control to prevent pregnancy or abortion to end it. so you're saying 1 - conservative men need to 'own' women 2 - a 'normal' woman will only marry and stay with a conservative man because she's blackmailed by having children and forced out of a career 3 - normal women don't want children 4 - normal women can't make their own money 5 - liberal men don't have a desire to reproduce - except, as a gift perhaps - to the womyn they choose to obey and serve, perhaps in a laboratory so they don't accidentally humiliate the woman with physical male contact so it's pretty much pure evil vs pure good - I can see the concern - what can I do, as an individual, to save the forces of goodness in the world
  23. I'm agnostic - I reject any claim there absolutely is one I reject any claim there absolutely isn't one I don't reject a person's claim that they choose to 'believe' one way or another I applaud those that just don't care or, at least believe one way but let others live and let live - but I'm biased to that opinion. I don't see a contradiction from Del on this particular rejection. ...
