and the 'environment', don't forget that, the program and society and the police policies that pretty much forced the farmer to flip out are to be blamed - much more than the guy that actually drove the tractor ... Romney's tax plan benefits rich at expense of middle class
rehmwa replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
In a theoretical sense? sure. But in a "I would really like to have a few more government benefits to help me out, and why can't the rich just pay a little more for those too" sense? I think just about anyone can figure that out when a candidate is proposing new and even better programs that will be FREE from the government - it's just "Obama-money" to reference a popular example. ... that's always the same discussion, and that's why we don't go any further. if we can't find a way to cut the big 3, then we can't put a dent in it ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Only in the US would one use a fast food restaurant to fight homos. Stop being homo or I will eat at Chick-Fil-A!!! when the real method to win by attrition would be to feed the others the fast food and let them die off faster (though the real fight is still against government overstepping bounds, the extreme wackos trying to hijack the cause notwithstanding) ... I think that's just fine I'm not giving them money, but that's just because I don't like the food. I don't have anything for or against their social position since I don't think government should be in the role of recognizing any partnership arrangement, traditional or otherwise. I'm not even sure they have an "agenda", their CEO made a comment one time. And there's always 'far far far' extreme wingnuts - I doubt most people want lumped in with your co-worker any more than we'd want to be lumped in with a far far left wingnut. ... Olympic medal winners and their tax bills...
rehmwa replied to Rstanley0312's topic in Speakers Corner
the problem with this approach is that the IRS expects that small business to start making money. You can't run a small business at a loss for writeoff purposes for very long, which is a bit annoying for those hobbyists (divemaster, for example) who might make a few hundred bucks against costs for a few hundred more, doesn't think it's fair to pay marginal tax rate on that "income." sure, fine.... so to the original topic - I run 500 meters, and someone gives me $25000 and a lump of gold worth another $50 You go to the casino and win a little over $25000 Kallend sells an invention for $25050 Ok - why should I not pay taxes on my income but you two have to - just because I ran for it? ... That right there is why I would never support Chick-Fil-A day. Most people in support are not supporting free speech, they're supporting Christian ideology, specifically Christian bigotry. If this were just about free speech, we'd see the same people 'supporting' the Ground Zero Mosque, the KKK's right to march, and the ACLU. People supporting Chick-Fil-A day don't give two shits about free speech, it all about anti-gay bigotry. quite the opposite speech compared to the old "I disagree with what you state, but I'll die defending the right to say it" seriously how, can you state for a fact that there is not a significant percentage of those people that might just actually fit that list you made? or are you just making an assumption based on your own bias'? Or is your support of an ideal not pure, but just a projection of how you 'feel' about others marching in any specific parade? Instead of reading minds and reflecting your reaction on what you think others are doing, why not just look at your own take on this and decide if there's a concern for free speech in there or not. ... We're very close to the day where people will be asked to make a very simple choice: 1) pay more taxes 2) or dramatically cut the size of the military. Soc Sec, and Medicare (medi-everything) And the longer we put off that decision, the harder option #2 gets to be agreed, with my adds ... I don't see how this is partisan - it's pretty much everyone There are a lot of non Republicans who support significant cuts to the defense budget, which is, as you well know, roughly equal to that of the rest of the world combined. We could cut it 50% and still far outspend any likely (or even unlikely) foe. there are a lot of republicans (fiscal conservatives, not those right wing versions of democrats) that agree with that too - they also want to cut the other items ... Romney's tax plan benefits rich at expense of middle class
rehmwa replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
well, I'm not a big fan of anyone paying 0% either, but this is where we start. Not much to collect there, but if everyone did pay in even a token amount as a minimum, then maybe the population would be more inclined to vote for leaders with better money management skills for that matter - If I pay zero, I'm still inclined to require others to pay more so that I can leverage their increases to even more benefits or entitlements for me. So I don't back off on the pressure just because I hit zero. I get to go for the next step. ... did everyone have a problem understanding? Apparently you do. "Everyone" includes babies, the terminally ill, the aged, the indigent, prisoners, the permanently hospitalized, and many others who are unable for a variety of reasons to support themselves. odd, they can't also pay a straight percent of the zero dollars they made this year? shouldn't be a huge burden ... Based on the fact you went there today, I gotta call bullshit on that one. You absolutely went there for more than just lunch. so are you saying that the government should force all businesses to follow an approved decor? that individual businesses should not be allowed to choose what they put on the wall?, or place in their happy meals for the customers to either read, ignore, or have a large protest and burn in the street? (I know your answer is no. but what do you suggest is needed so you aren't offended or mildly perturbed?) Edit: for me, still not going to ChikFilA. I still don't like the sandwich and I don't choose food to support or deny political/social commentary ... not if you just pick people with low standards - set the bar low and you can feel great about yourself ALL THE TIME I suspect reality TV has really aided this advanced psychological method to boost self-esteem........ is that like a 'bacon cheese burger'? you know, a regular burger, just with messiah as an added toping.... or is it more like an "Angus", or an "all beef "burger? pretty much pure messiah with just a small percentage of pork fat stirred in..... either way, still best served with cracked peppercorns cooked into the messiah, maybe with a more subtle BarBQ sauce ...
