  1. I disagree and agree disagree - they have to stay in power and that still requires votes. agree - this is weird - I wrote "or even have an effect on voting" was specifically to give the nod to contributors having a disproportionate affect - weird, I actually did consciously do that so no fix needed, thanks for playing ... 2. I think we can come a common consensus. (unless we're just happy to stop with the short version above.....) Too bad. Our politicians in their pathetc efforts to cater to {anyone that may vote at least once or twice (or more) or even have an effect on voting} to have a society where those voters are fooled into thinking they are free to steal without paying taxes and all their whims are catered to has gotten us into the mess we are in. Anyone who thinks we aren't going to require each and every citizen to start paying more taxes is as delusional as the ones who think it should all be laid on the backs of "everyone but me" ... 3. I think your life expectancy just decreased. @Bill I've printed this statement to show around at the DZ ... Looks like we'll be having "free firewoks" this weekend. I just love stirring the pot. It's a standing joke, and I'm out of state this weekend - enjoy "firewoks"? is that Star Wars meets the Last Air Bender? ... 4. Why should Olympic athletes be treated any differently than pro golfers, pro wrestlers, pro footballers, pro baseballers, pro basketball players, pro NASCAR drivers...? they shouldn't, if they get income, that income should be taxed like everyone else However, I suspect, they could establish themselves as a small business - then i'm sure they could write off a lot more than they take in - so in those terms, that article is a bit one sided ... 7. And that is where I think you are wrong. Reactions as indicated above show that if anybody comes with a suggestion that even hints at any sort of restriction on arms, that person is labelled as a gun control fanatic (and in another thread subsequently compared to a child molester) who wants to ban all guns. If there is ever a solution to found, it needs frank discussion from both sides. Not one side demanding solutions and then ridiculing anything brought forward. I'm good with this. My point is just that what's brought (typically) forward tends to deserve ridicule. ... 8. so can we move the gratuitous nation bashing to Speaker's Corner yet? sure, it's the "in thing" for impotent PC obsessed folks both in and out of the country to bash the US and pat each other on the back and stroke each other for being so advanced and evolved but this is just a crappy thread ... 9. You either try to see the analogy for what it is (and no more than that) - or you're just trying to find outrage to complain about - or, you really are incapable of understanding what you choose not to understand I suspect the first. so in this case, yeah, it's a pretty shallow read, with no attempt to understand the point he's making - I don't think you're shallow, I find your comments pretty smart, but I think you're manufacturing something out of thin air here. analogies in SC are pretty pointless anyway, you people are too literal for your own good ... 10. I guess the problem, is that people are saying vague things: "We should do more" more is rarely better - more just means intrusion "We should do it better" I agree here, but it's so vague as to be useless but without any concrete suggestions. and when cornered, the best we've seen is just additional screens and reviews that would be very unlikely to make a positive impact, but would be negative to a lot of innocents Basic philosophy is interesting, but useless in application. I'd rather see people try to offer different solutions, and get away from the "I don't what, but MORE is better" vs "you can't do anything so don't try" stances. The current discussion goes nowhere. It just degenerates into points about how the other side is wrong, not how the current side is right. That's at least where the pro-gun side has the high ground in the conversation. The anti-gun side (or call it the anti-violent nutjob side) needs to offer more than just complaints. ... 11. I'll chime in. 1 - Disagree - the seller has the right to make his sale contingent upon any information he requires. 2 - Agree - the buyer should have the right to try and buy any piece of property he wishes 3 - If the buyer and the seller cannot agree upon the terms of the sale, either can walk away for any reason - or no reason, for that matter 4 - outside of the seller or buyer - I agree, no outside agency should be interfering with our personal transactions (we can leave parity of treatment of customers for social reasons to Speaker's Corner - that's not what we are talking about here.) This example (had it been legit) is perfect - there was no outside agency forcing either party to make or not make the sale. The seller just had his own criteria for the sale and made a personal choice not to continue the transaction. I don't care what his reasons are (though I find them admirable, it's not my business). The fact that we agree with his criteria is admirable. But not pertinent to the point you are making. I get that, but you only addressed the rights of the buyer, not the seller. Your point is equivalent to saying that I have no business denying a sale of a puppy to a known animal torturer. that's silly. Add in the rights of the seller, then you have a good discussion. This would be a different discussion - The idea that sellers should be more responsible as individuals without interference, vs a requirement to legislate via outside authority the same level of consideration shown in the example. That would generate a good discussion as people have different philosophies about personal responsibility vs forcing others to meet our standards. In a perfect world, a newbie could buy a tiny little Velo - store it on the shelf until her receives sufficient training and experience, and then transition to it at that time. But, time and time again, we see that the newbies are stupid about it. So I have no idea with the sellers establishing a "Personal" sales criteria. ... 13. or their best dream....depending on the nature and direction of their bigotry Actually, I believe the current presidency itself is a minor issue in the long run on the issue. The younger generations seem to be moving (in general) in the right direction despite individual events, etc etc. Individual results vary, as they always do. If I were to make any comment, I think the point that this question is even asked and the way the responses are worded, highlights that there is still a problem since it's definitely not color blind in intent or execution. ... 15. Oh Yeah? I want to define it as requiring all newbies to get a double digit square foot canopy on the 2nd jump off of AFF status and whipping out 720's at 900 feet while the local gun club shoots at the swooper if he actually makes it to final - pre-training being only a couple pictures of someone landing and a good talking to from the guy that survived it twice one time. Now that I've defined pushing the envelope in swooping, I'm a position of opposition to it and will argue against it. though I will lobby for the event for the olympics, or at least Japanese reality TV YMMV ... 17. nonsense - he made the point that giving in with impotent actions just to placate a group doesn't fix any problem. Especially when the group won't go away or stop their negative value behavior no matter how many pointless concessions you give up. i.e., you can't placate fanatics - just like you won't placate someone with a severely twisted need. In that limited boundary, perhaps it's a good analogy. Unless someone is shallow enough to not take the intent of the comment and just wants to find an argument not intended. edit: I would also answer this way -.,,,, yes, yes they are exactly the same but sometimes the smiley faces are ignored around here by the uber-serious crowd ... I doubt every single employee of the company deserves punishment or reward just because the one guy the owns the biz actually had an opinion no one cares about the only people out of line here are the mayors of Chicago and Boston I assume - abuse of power is wrong no matter if the cause is just or twisted ... 21. As I already said, it's not about religion. It's about civil rights. Anyone, regardless of their religious beliefs, who feels strongly about denying gays their civil rights deserves to be boycotted. absolutely, by those individuals that feel strongly about it but not by legislation, that's absolutely wrong also - if you turned the tables on this and a governor/mayor/president disallowed a company that was actively in support, it would also be wrong. (I tend to pick my food by the quality of the food and the service. I think activism in making market choices is a bit silly, but YMMV. Frankly, if we were all that way, nobody would eat anywhere - there's reallly no opinion out there that people won't get bent about. We'd only support those bland business owners that have no opinions on anything. Or those too cowardly to speak up on topics. But I suspect there would even be those that would boycott business for that reason too. So I don't go to that particular restaurant because I didn't enjoy the meal the one time I went. I don't think I could care any less what the individual beliefs of the Owner are one way or the other and if I knew, it wouldn't affect me much. ) ... 22. I like this a lot. I'm OC, and I have the count. On all the exits, I stay as far foward as possible to give my IC's big child bearing hips room to clear the door (the point can be entirely/mostly inside for most exits and it doesn't seem to hurt at all) I know things are going right when I see my IC clearing the door frame hips first and before or at the same time I'm calling GO I know on some exits, my IC really is beating me off the plane (barely) - or at least, that's the feel the two of us go for and when it happens, those are fantastic exits. Also, to assist the IC, the OC has to really try to launch forward into the prop blast and up a little bit. But that forward bit is huge for us. OC is living in prop blast, but the IC isn't - so that launch forward kind of cancels out the effect of us leaving with two different environments. (find and OC with a strong right leg ) ... 23. Why would I do that? He explains it in the last line of that post. He believes (and I agree with him) that regulations pertaining to the purchase of guns should not be less lax than those pertaining to beer. 25. I pretty much equated Romney with John Kerry since day 1. Help us.....He's even worse at it. I get the impression that when he wants to try to score "pandering points" with a crowd, then he thinks he can just 'wing it' and be fluent and smooth. (he likes "lakes" for example, or tries to get seniors to sing america the beautiful (need a gag icon)) He really can't wing it at all, it's a bit sad to watch. Right now, the only thing going for him is Obama, REALLY REALLY, sucks. But, since it's a PR game for most voters, it'll be tight. His best bet is to just try and be clear about policy and also what went wrong the last 4 (or 12 years, since the last 4 were just the previous 8 on steroids) and to not even TRY to pander without a script. It works for the other guy. and, of course, just make it about the Health Care thing and also what it represents long term about our society and let the people choose from that we are so screwed no matter what ...
