I have half a dozen friends that do. Just talked to one a couple nights ago and he got special sights put on his .44 revolver (I'm old school.....guns are collectibles and the history is important, rifles should have wood stocks and the black plastic crap looks horrible to me......so I was dismayed that he marred such a nice piece with modern sights. But he said it was for function) You really are talking out your ass on this topic. Let alone the strawman/emotional argument that 'gun are designed for killing' - it's such a dodge and non-starter. The comment is solely to question another person's right to own property and determine for themselves how it's used. ... Oh, that's too bad, I was expecting a 'social justice' argument. Well, I can always hope DreamDancer or one of his sock puppets come out.... You have to do a couple more things in this case. 1 - consider the type of person that is willing to take the time to respond to the poll. A small portion of the population fits that bill already. And they are likely to be a bit more 'activist' in their inclinations. And anything that's a social manipulation question is likely to drive the two extremes to 50/50 or only get responses from those outraged. question anything 50/50, or extremely one sided.... 2 - the rest that don't answer are probably predominantly happy or neutral with the status quo. sampling method is VERY important. so it understanding the group of people that refuse to answer. But, as a minimum, I'd rather know 3 numbers, not 2. Position 1 vs Position 2 vs declined to respond at all. We can all infer what we think that 3rd group thinks. But based on the Senate vote, I suspect we can make a good guess. ... AP 15 April 2013 - Observers noted that the backback of poorly constructed hemp was laid gently near the 'recycling friendly' receptacle. Observers noted that the suspect carefully checked for spotted owl eggs before riding a Segway down the block - stopping 12 times to pick wallets from various spectators and then taking the money and giving it to next person down the street. Police are combing the area for a person of questionable gender with pony tails, Birkenstocks, excessive body odor and a self satisfied and superior smirk. WARNING, do not confront this individual, call a sensitivity counselor and stay back, the suspect may be wearing crystals. ... The European austerity is not a "bet" - it's having no choice. You can't spend money if nobody will lend it. Thus it is forced and must be accomplished in a lousy and most painful way. By the way - show me some data about this "austerity." There's a lot of talk, but I haven't seen any indication that any place has even cut spending at all. I haven't seen the data, but that's my understanding. well, we can't really know unless we try both. Let's start by asking if we can force Germany to bail us out too..... ... evil is a subjective term based on deeply ingrained beliefs until we know the person's rationalization, I don't know if the nutter is evil, crazy, motivated otherwise at this point, I can only deeply reject his results and actions (and I only really care about actions - whether or not I'm able to understand the rationale or not) ... I already stated as much. no problem. in short here: "I don't understand it" is typically not a statement of understanding at all. Just opposition, outrage, or disbelief, or uncompromising opposition. It helps by dehumanizing the 'other'. Interesting enough: I find religious people use it more than anyone else. (all types, traditional, global warming, etc etc etc), and older people set in their ways On the right, it's really just a statement that notes violation of deeply ingrained beliefs On the left, it's usually a disparaging statement about the other side, but based on the same ... then, simply speaking, you are not equipped to pass judgment on the issue even if you come to the same conclusions as those that are I strongly believe this (I also think your outrage is driving a purely semantical position - and, in reality, you ARE capable) Edit: there is also a very strong implication in your position, then that ALL very successful psychologists, who make a point of understanding twisted behavior, but therefore be evil at heart. like many people, you equate 'understanding' with agree/sympathize/advocate that's incorrect - you can understand something that you'd never be able to commit. You can 'understand' just about anything people that claim otherwise are actually just making the statement to express their disagreement, not their lack of understanding. Saying I 'can't' understand it is a complete non-starter. It's really a self indulgent, position. Liberals, "can't understand why people want to own guns" etc etc etc. They understand just fine, they are just expressing that the refuse to give an inch. I'd rather they just say that there is 'no compromise' on their position. That's honest. In the case of these bombing, it's not only honest, but it's a very reasonable position. ... around here: soccor moms (predominately) and to a lesser extent: middle aged men in suits and nice cars, males in early 20's if the car is crap. there's a demographic that drives excessively slow (like 40 on the interstate) and sloppy as well, but I don't want to be called names. just on the way in, I was on a 2ndary road (45 mph) and was passed by a woman going 60 who BARELY got in front of me before she was passed by a kid going at least 75. But I got to forget about that on the highway when a (middle aged guy in a nice car) boxed out another of the same kind forcing him to drive down the shoulder - then at least 3 miles of them jousting and gesturing and cutting each other off....Hard to watch as I was going 70 (in a 70) which apparently wasn't good enough for guy in the big truck that was tailgating me the entire time. it's getting worse too "never get behind an old men wearing a hat" is an old joke I'm pretty sure they all were electric cars......(kidding) ... Apparently the last mile was dedicated to the Newton, CT kids too. After OKC, I don't put anything past our crazier minority. like an environmentalist that thinks marathons exploit the earth, or a rabid vegetarian, or an anti-gun nut trying to make a point, or a 99%er? ((just a few other examples of how it's a bit silly to assume anything at this point)) I'll agree with "white guy nutter" "nutter" yes, he planted a bomb to hurt others.
