  1. Stu, I agree with you on this post and think you're spot on. But don't you agree that most up and coming jumpers, who are looking to swoop, simply don't spend enough time learning to get the maximum performance out of their current canopy? Whatever it may be. Instead they've mistakenly developed the mindset that small and faster is what will make them a better swooper. And so they move to a different canopy before they've learned to "ring-out" the one they're jumping. I've got many jumps on a Stilletto and still believe that is the best all around canopy made. However when someone tells me they want to eventually learn how to swoop and asks about canopy progression, I tell them Sabre2, Katana and then Velo. That's the swooping path. The Stilletto is on the other path. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  2. I think whoever took that picture should contact Sony and tell them their red eye reduction SUCKS. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  3. My son swears by "using brakes" on his Velo but I still prefer rears on my Velo 103. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  4. It sounds like the first training camp for Airspeed is this weekend. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  5. Why don't you just ask PD. It's not like they just tossed this fabric on reserves with no testing. They had the OP on the tour for several years. I put 6 jumps on an OP143 in 2006 that had over a hundred jumps on the canopy. It opened and flew great. I was even able to get a decent swoop out of it. 6. You just missed an awesome one. The Keys Boogie. 70 at night 80 during the day. Great time. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  7. This is what I posted in another thread. Just search for "G2 helmet". You can also check out "you tube - Cookie G2 helmet" And go to www.Cookiecomposites.com ****************************************** I've jumped the G2 about 35 times. The visor is much thicker than any other helmet I've seen. Serious protection from knees and feet. And the closing/locking mechanism is strong. Best unobstructed visibility of anything I've tried. And I've tried them all. I love the fact that your mouth is not covered while the helmet is on. I can actually talk to people without being muffled and this includes under canopy. I had to scream at someone to get their attention on final. (They had no idea I was near them.) The visor flips all the way back and out of the way while under canopy. I really hate having anything in front of my eyes while flying my canopy. And the chin strap not only secures the helmet but also tightens the neck cowl in one motion. This is an awesome helmet. Cookie has really stepped up with this one. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  8. OMG. Forgive me for asking, but how the hell do you have 3 two-outs? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  9. My bad. I misread it. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  10. A custom canopy with PD (ie. Sabre 2) costs no more than a stock canopy. It just takes longer to get. PM me for prices. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  11. Getting my hands above the twists helped on this jump. Heck, there was no room BELOW the twists. Did you do any kicking to try to get out of this? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  12. Contact Melanie Curtis. She jumps at Lake Elsinore, 7,000 jumps. Well known tunnel and free fall coach. She is one of very few people in the world to medal in both 4 way freefly and 4 way belly. She is known for her awesomeness and hilarity. She'll also get you hooked up with people to jump with in the area. You can't go wrong with "Melsinore" melaniejcurtis@gmail.com or mel@skydiveelsinore.com Tell her Sandy told you to conatct her. 13. I'm not going to give advice on how to check it for being airworthy. But if you want to get rid of the smell, after you do all the washing and drying, place it in a plastic garbage bag and put it in the freezer for 5 or 6 days. Pull it out and hang in the sun for a couple of hours. It will kill the residual mold. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  14. I hate being called an asshole. If anything call me a "Prick". Anyone can be an asshole. It's takes practice, hard work and dedication to be a "Prick". Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  15. "....I was wondering if it would be too taboo with my low jump numbers to suggest advice to more experienced jumpers about things I have done to improve certain abilities." **************************************** Exactly what have you done to "improve certain abilities" and how much more experienced are these other jumpers you want to help? Are you certain your skills are better or is it just your perception? Has anyone with a lot of experience (1000 or more jumps) commented on your abilities? When my son was at your jump numbers he had some pretty good skills. Far better than most with 50 jumps. But I told him to keep his advice to himself unless others asked him for it. After a while his rapid skill improvement was evident and more and more young jumpers started asking for advice, even people with two or three times his jump numbers. He was glad he waited. Unsolicited advice is often perceived as cockiness. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  16. Please enlighten me about the service bulletins of which you speak. I have a Vigli and I have not heard of this. What problems did you have? Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  17. QuoteQuote " On the PD Nav rigs, there is a pin for the toggle. Excess stowed line is looped around that pin." ------------------------------------- Just for the record. Canopies do not come with toggles. Toggles and risers are part of the container system. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  18. OK I tried that.............. no joy. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  19. The fact that this thread was resurrected shows there are still some issues with some riser cover designs and the method of packing some rigs. This is exactly why I like my V3 with magnetic riser covers. Nothing smoother IMHO. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  20. There is room for an audible on each side (that's 2)and my audible went in so I could not even feel it. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  21. What concerns me more is that these numbers mean there were 2100 times when people failed to save themselves by pulling the ripcord. So if these people had gone in does that mean that the reserve "failed" because it didn't open itself? I turn my AAD on in the morning and forget that I have one. Let's not get so involed with our skydive that we forget the number one thing that let's us keep jumping. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  22. OK that didn't fix it. My project properties are: Template = Custom (720x480, 29.970 fps) Width = 720 Field order = None (progressive scan) Height = 480 Pixel aspect ratio = 1.2121 (NTSC DV Widescreen) Output rotation = 0 degrees (original) Frame rate = 29.970 (NTSC) Pixel format = 8-bit Composting gamma = 2.222 (Video) Full resolution rendering quality = Good Motion blur type = Gaussian Deinterlace method = Interpolate fields Speak to me oh wise one.......... Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  23. It does do it on the time line. What causes changing framrate or media speed/timewarp? My properties were set to lower field first and the deinterlace was set to interpolate. I assume that's what you mean. I'll change the lower field to none (progressive scan) and I'll let you know if it helps. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

  25. Wait for a light wind day then go find a farmer's back yard and purposely spot for and land in it. Your only cost will be a jump ticket, unless you break yourself up. When you've accomplished this, then simply ask yourself " do I wish I had a smaller more heavily loaded canopy for that jump?" (don't cheat and use an accuracy canopy) If you can honestly answer 'yes' then go for the smaller reserve. I went from a PDR126 to the OP143. No brainer. My main is a Velo 103.
