I'm with Lou on this one. I have two of the UPT bags with Katana 120's and have about 400 total jumps on them. I also put 75 jumps on a proto type before UPT released it to the market and have 100 jumps on one with a Velo 103. The line stretch is quicker, which I like, and there is no bag dance during the line stretch phase, which is one of the big reasons I got the bags . My locking stows are slightly longer than an inch (no more than 1 1/4) and I double stow the bands which are tandem bands. I also figure 8 the lines and allow the stack to get slightly shorter with each turn. I don't do anything special and am a pretty quick packer. I stow the lines up to 5-6 inches of my risers and then while putting the bag in the pack tray, I pull out exactly what I need to have the lines go down each side to the bottom corner of the tray and accross the bottom to the center. This way I end up with exactly the right amount of excess line with no extra, which is one of the things I like about this bag. I use packers for about 80% of my jumps including video. I've had to show packers how to stow the lines but after one or two times and then monitoring one or two times they have all been golden. Zero hard openings and zero malfunctions. I even use packers at events and anytime they are not familiar with the bag they learn very quickly. I think your line over was due to the way the canopy was packed and put into the bag and had nothing to do with the bag itself. I would strongly recommend the UPT bag. Best openings ever. I have a cutaway system on my helmet and would not even consider jumping one without it. I work very hard at eliminating snag points and mitigating those that can't be eliminated. One way to look at it is: would you jump a rig that did not have a way to get rid of a malfunctioning main? I don't ever expect to need the cutaway but I'm damm sure glad I have it and I practice getting to the handle regularly. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Winter Jumping without Gloves?
Skydivesg replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You only put the latex gloves on just prior to exit. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. -
I know I read about the firm ware sometime late last summer. I thought I read about on this site but I can't find anything about it in the search function. I've googled it and still no luck. Maybe I read about it on some camera/photog site. I know I'm old and maybe even a bit crazy and some have said I'm slow but damm it I know I read about it somewhere. I just don't know where.................F*?!/#>ck Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Winter Jumping without Gloves?
Skydivesg replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you can't feel your fingers because of the cold it's just as dangerous as wearing gloves that are too thick. Go to the Performance Designs website and buy some of their PD gloves. Then buy some latex medical gloves at Walmart or Target and wear them under the PD gloves. This combo gives you great warmth and the latex blocks the wind and the PD gloves are like batting gloves so you can feel handles and toggles with no problem. I wear the PD gloves year round and the latex when it's really cold. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. -
I thought the whole point of a Mac is so you didn't have to have Windows. Am I wrong? And I guess it sort of depends on what kind of product you're trying to produce. All the dzs I've seen for work videos (tandems) have used PCs. I know of a couple people who have tried Macs but gave up and went to PCs. One of them even had Windows on his Mac and it still took too long (overall). Again, I'm talking about tandem videos. This is just my observation based on my and a few other's experience. After watching several of us move our video files to our PCs with zero hassle and in no time at all, my friend finally gave up using his MAC and bought a PC. If you have the time to wait for the MAC to convert the files (to what ever they use) so you can edit, then start the process and go pack your rig. When your done you can go back and see if your files have loaded so you can edit them. Good luck Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

There are usually two reasons people say not to buy new for your first rig. 1) most people think they will want to down size canopies within a year or two (even though that is seldom a good idea) 2) newer jumpers will often make mistakes on landings and tumble or butt slide possibly causing some abrating of the rig. If you're not concerned about these then go ahead and buy want you want even if it's new. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Has anyone tried the aftermarket third party firm ware for the G10? It's suppose to speed up the shot to shot time allowing more pictures to be taken in the ame time period. Supposedly double. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

I think the real difference here is that in order for a pilot to take passengers for money, they need a commercial rating which requires a Class II medical. Since tandem passengers are paying for their ride some people think it is reasonable to require a medical for the TI. Maybe we should be thankful the FAA doesn't require a Class II Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

The difference is in the continuity plan. Which piece has the memory, front or back? Which peice has the mirror, front or back? Which way to turn on the blocks that allow both directions? Who goes over and who goes under? These are just some of the parts of continuity. Not to mention the "secret shit". The Airspeed system has proven to work. I expect good stuff. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

I think since it's 4 way and Mark hand picked the other three instead of inheriting one and the fact that they will be using the Airspeed system instead of Fastrax (not to mention the awesome alternate they've chosen), I have a feeling we're going to see some great stuff. QuoteQuote Slowly pull both toggles down to full arms extension. The key in this manuver is to keep your hands even, and all movements slow and steady. When you feel the canopy being to rock back and stall, note your hand position, as this is the stall point. Remember - slow, smooth movements entering and recovering from a stall. Do not get spooked by the stall and throw your hands all the way up, that will make it worse. Once the canopy beings to stall, you can stop it by easing your hands up tp a point just above the stall point. *************************************************** One thing I teach to make stalls less scary and more manageable is to start with your hands and toggles on your hip bones (physically touching your hip bones). Then ease your hands down your thighs until you get to a full stall. And here is the important part. Once you have stalled the canopy, let your hands come back up only to your hips again. This allows the canopy to start flying again. Most people let up too far and too fast. The canopy then surges forward and scares the shit out of you. Practice this procedure several times on the ground and remind yourself in the air before starting the drill. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

I have never made a wing suit jump but would someday like to do so. I obviously have a lot of belly jumps and am very current every year. I have about 1000 camera jumps filming tandems. If I get an opportunity to do a wing suit jump, I guarantee the last thing I will want is the added distraction of my camera. Most people need to learn from their own mistakes, others are satisfied to trust the dead. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

Hi Slappy. First, let me say don't get too tingley about joing this site. It can be brutal. I know you're excited about getting a new suit and how it will make you look cool but if you want the truth here it is. I suggest you get your older friends to donate an old jumpsuit to you that you can get altered and trimmed down to fit you. If those suits are made of cotton then you may be better served in getting a cheap, tight, nylon jogging suit to help you fall faster. At 40-50 jumps a year you'll just scrape/rip up a new expensive suit on one or more of your landings and end up being sad about it. Have your dad put money on your DZ account so you can make more jumps. This will make you a better and, more importantly, safer and more current skydiver. More jumps make you a better skydiver, not a suit. If you're not satisfied with that answer then PM me and I will try to help you get a good deal on 2 suits with one of the best Freefly and RW suit makers in the sport. I was recently at an event where two people from the FAA were on site during every jump for 4 days. And when I say on site I don't mean in an office, FBO or terminal, I mean at the gear up area, boarding area and landing area. They used everything in their power to disrupt the operation. I was told they ramped checked the planes everyday and actually tried to ramp check them twice in one day. They did not want the jumper's canopies to be within 1000 feet of a spinning prop which was impossible given the pre-approved parachute landing area unless no airplanes were landing, taking off or taxiing. I could go on and on with the crap they pulled but my point is: If they had known or thought of the TI FAA medical and corrective vision requirement they would have used that to slow things down as well. My medical certificate reads: Conditions of Issue: The holder of this certificate must: *Comply with any statement of functional, operational, and/or limitation issued as a condition of certification. In the Limitations section it says: Must wear corrective lenses I don't doubt some feds might let this slide while I'm certain others would do everthing possible to cause disruption. I defintely would not want to defend my decision to not wear corrective lenses in a court of law. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

I've had to do the hopping for elivated heart rate and the hearing test for the past 35 years. That's for a pilot medical, but I think it's the same medical for tandems. Nothing unusual. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

17 year old turns in at Start Skydiving!
Skydivesg replied to dbcooperfan's topic in Safety and Training
Hey Buster, question for ya. Let's say someone who is 17 and looks older, (not that it's relevant) signs a waiver and fudges on the DOB so it says they are 18. Is the witness of the signature (DZ employee) obligated by law to confirm the age via an ID? Or would that waiver stand up in court? This is a question for the USA. I'm really sorry to hear that you had some trouble with service from Cookie. Were you dealing direct or with a dealer? And what kind of issue did you have? I know Cookie and I know he tries as hard as anyone to deliver a good product and service. I'll let him know about this thread. Don't be surprised if he contacts you.
