  4. Ahhh, more confusion of similie and metaphor. Michael
  5. perhaps we should petition HH for a forum to argue about which forum an argument belongs in? Hehe, I keep thinking they'll grasp onto the whole diminishing returns concept ...been thinking that a while. :) Michael
  6. Laughing and 'dumbass' comments are the preferred debrief techniques of CRWDogs. Smile, brother. Michael I
  7. Why? Why would you speak differently when they are dead. I've been present at far too many deaths to dishonor them by speaking bullshit. Yeah, yeah, I know, you've been conditioned by society that's what you do, and those who don't, ring your societally installed alarm as assholes. He was a man, our president, a consumate actor and above all, a politician who made it to the top ...don't see any need to say wonderful things about him just cause he died. As a kid, I was really moved by John Kennedy. As a man, I can appreciate some of the things he did ...he was still another slick politician who made it to the top ...for a while. I know most go deep into tribal conditioning in circumstances surrounding death and my words strike you as meaningless and maybe just plain mean. As a good member of the tribal collective, i know you will do what you are conditioned to do and go through the glowing praise for the dead rituals. Not dancing round the fire and chanting rituals isn't bashing ...but I doubt the natives will like it much. Michael
  8. Nope, but the mutherfucker had style. Michael
  9. Hmmm, the opinion split is pretty much between skydivers and the 'if it's good for business, it good for skydiving' types. Michael

Perhaps the disabilities forum? ;) Michael Hi CRW I'm trying very hard to be nice no reason to slam the president and get the thread locked, piss people off etc. The is HH's house, his rules, what good for the moderator (same thread on two foums) is fine with me. R.I.P.[/reply One of the most important things I've learned in life is ...don't ever lose your sense of humor. Michael

Perhaps the disabilities forum? ;) Michael
  12. PestPatrol is known to cause some false positives in combination with Spybot-S&&D. If PestPatrol should detect cd_clint.dll (as a trojan) or zipdll.dll (as an exploit) in your Spybot-S&&D folder, please ignore them, and update your PestPatrol. Michael
  13. There were two dickheads in that silly argument. Michael huh? i'm sorry... maybe i'm slow cuz it's friday afternoon and i need a jump... but i don't get what you are trying to say here. are you calling KSD a dickhead for defending himself? Defend himself? If I get drunk, go out and get in a penis contest with another drunk in a bar, then I would pretty much have to consider myself a dickhead. Hey, we've all done it. Doesn't mean I can't view it objectively. Michael
  14. Yup! Example: Quade's post on the wind tunnel. Your moving it to Events and Places (which I seldom check) is really cutting with a fine blade. Granted, I saw it, cause it is listed as moved in Gen Skydiving, but what did you gain. You just have a lot of time on your hands or what? Michael
  15. Riser slap on opening???? Ice will only be of benefit for 24-36 hours. Yes, it happens to me all the time ...scaring people in grocery stores and small children. :( Michael
  16. [reply And can somebody tell me why it's OK to charge for coaching in other sports, but NOT skydiving? I can't think of a thing to tell you that you would find meaningful. Michael
  17. Quote*** [A DZO of a non group member drop zone has, in my opinion, no business being on the BoD. It just doesn't make sense. Well, let me tell you why it makes sense. Well, when you look at why Mullins is on the BOD, you could pretty much blame the BOD. They tried to fuck him. They broke scores of their own rules (while holding up the ones in their favor up like Moses bringing down the ten commandments) and removed him from the list of candidates as being one of the lesser qualified candidates. The Nominations and Election Committee (Bill Wenger, Madolyn Murdock and Lee Schlichtemeier wanted to keep their little shop closed, violated even the most basic priciples of fairness and so outraged the membership, Mike was elected on a write-in vote. They behaved most dishonorably as members of the BOD and as skydivers. For this reason alone, it is most appropriate for Mike to be on the BOD If the BOD (or their hand puppet Nominations committee) had made even the slightest attempt to be fair and impartial, I doubt Mike would ever have been elected. Let me tell you a secret (to you apparently) about USPA ...they're rotten to the core and have been for more than a decade. Here's a quote from Madolyn Murdock's sworn court statement: "I felt that while Mike Mullins is a well known Drop Zone Owner, pilot, and aircraft operator, he does not support the Basic Safety Regulations of the organization. It is well known that he allows his children to skydive. The USPA Basic Safety Regulations require that the minimum age to learn to skydive is 16. If Mr. Mullins disagrees with this policy then he should work to make a change to the regulation. His support and assistance in training his children to skydive does not show support for USPA policies and did not make him a prudent candidate in my opinion." Translation: We got a sweet deal here that benefits us all (not USPA 'US', but BOD 'us') and we're afraid some straight forward, honorable skydiver might upset what we have built for ourselves. The membership was justifiably outraged, Paul. Would you have preferred they just got away with it? Michael
  18. Tell the whole story! It was common practice for jumpers to not use seat bealts at the time and still remains so in a very large part of the world. Since the accident the U.S. has become more educated. The accident had nothing to do with GM status. Didn't they sign a PLEDGE to abide by all the rules of the USPA? If so, then it has everything to do with GM status. Just because everyone was doing it doesn't make it right and if they did sign the pledge.... J Nobody wore seatbelts back then and the 'pledge' did not address the issue in any way. Michael
  19. Went the distance and took him on points ...96 -92!
  20. It would have been nice if you had noticed it and I'm sure you learned that. Assuming you jump a big stable canopy (I do) the only effect I've experienced is anxiety :) I don't understand the chop rationale. BSBD Michael
  21. That's one tough old bird! Michael
  22. I'm inclined to write back something like "well now you'll have problems every time you try to access the site," and just ban the guy, but I don't know if I can be that mean to a stranger. Would you attempt to help him, ban him, or just delete the email and move on with life? By the way, anyone else have trouble logging in to skydivingmovies.com? Lemme know what browser version and operating system you use. Dave I'd just decide what I wanted to do and do it. Michael
  23. I taught a few thousand students, I've cared for a few thousand sick/injured people. The problem with tipping is that it ain't about serving cheeseburgers. It's about situations where people place their lives in your hands. The level of trust and respect they give us is ...immense. Yeah, I know, it doesn't seem that way to you. There was a time when I sincerely held similar feelings. I even pretty much forced the DZO to raise my rates as chief instructor. I thought I deserved it for the time in grade and the outstanding job I did. As an instructor and as an RN, I realize that the students/patients must trust and depend on us. Their most enthusiatic appreciation was frequently disproportionate to what we actually did. You can do a pretty much indifferent job as an instructor and most students will be absulutely and incredibly blown away by how wonderful you are. You can't do that in nursing. I try to live up to that responsibility ...and I will not stand around with my hand out or (oh, how many DZ's have I seen were they make sure to spread the word that tips are appreciated). Dude, you have a most incredible job. You get paid for it at a rate you agreed to. Don't soak the students by capitalizing on their emotional response to a most incredible experience. I have been offered some amazing 'tips' in my two decade careen as an ER/Trauma/ICU nurse. An offer of a couple hundred dollars is common, numerous trips and even a new Prelude from a local car dealer who wanted to express his gratitude for the compassion and consideration to his family. Did I go significantly above and beyond ...without a doubt. I did it because it was the human thing to do and it was my job. Despite our best efforts, his son died. He was rich, sincerely grateful and man, was that tempting. Aside from violating the ethics of my current profession, it's just wrong. YMMV, Michael
