How many nations besides the USA still execute people for crimes committed while juveniles? How many nations besides the USA have refused to ratify the convention on the human rights of children? The USA looks pretty poor in the international arena with respect to treatment of children. Yeah, it LOOKS like it would suck to be a violent child/criminal in the U.S. But, does it really?
