i get those all the time.... i also have a full loft at home and i hang it up, overnight if need be... if its bad, ill turn off the dehumidfier, leave the door open and let the humidity creep up and it smooths out oh so nicely with some smoothing and shaking... I live in florida with plenty of humidity to spare.... So anywhere else, buy a humidifier and crank that bitch up and let the canopy hang for a while then hand smooth it.... Good luck. I was just about to order a brand new mirage when i found out just how horrible their customer service is... My wife ordered risers custom made and was told 2-3 weeks. 3 days later she went into mirage and changed one of the colors of the risers. They said they were already cut and there would be a $30 restock charge,... ok no problem. We paid in cash then and there. 5 weeks later after checking in several times, they call and inform me they are out of the original color we ordered and it would take another couple weeks to get it in. I told them it was changed many weeks ago and they said yep they had the new requested color in. Still took another 2 weeks after this... See the problem here? i was charged a restock fee for something that was never cut in the first place and admittedly by them. I had already paid in full and they wouldnt even consider refunding the restock fee when i explained what happend. Excuses are all i ever got back. Then i wanted to buy a stock container they had that needed a harness resize. They wanted to charge me full list price plus a harness resize fee and it ended up being more than a brand new custom rig. I tried offering cash upfront.... $3400ish.... they wouldnt budge. So i bought something else. I will never buy anything from them ever again. probably why they cant pay their employees and are teetering on going under.... fold the top part of the dive loop up and put a bartack in, that will hold it up and open... basically what the previous guy said... have a rigger do it if you dont have a bartacker at home... most people dont... a regular zig zag will work, but it needs to be done really well to avoid problems with it pulling out as you pull on it repeatedly... Other than a Mirage RSL to an older Mirage G4?

I specifically remember seeing a tso label on my wifes mirage rsl lanyard... there was actually a discussion a while back where people were arguing you had to use the rsl and not remove it because it would make the assembly not what was tso tested.... i may be missing details but that was the gist of it... Other than a Mirage RSL to an older Mirage G4?
Alexg3265 replied to Machine-710's topic in Gear and Rigging
can you be more specific? the only lanyard you can legally use is what mirage supplies. TSO compliant and all that. As for the risers, you can use any that have an rsl ring on the proper side... this is all assuming the rig is fitted with the velcro/channel and the double rings on the reserve top flap. If my hands arent shaking when i get down, i didnt hook it low enough... my hands are almost always a little shakey when i land. Totally normal I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...

I personally prefer to have people pull it infront of me in a controlled environment precisely for what was said directly above. If you pop your reserve at home or in the field and something wonky does happen, without really really good video, its almost impossible to figure out what happened.... I like to see the launch, and inspect the outside of the container for the obvious signs of damage, but also to see how it looks packed in the container whether its still tight or if it looks sloppy. If its still packed i press on it and see if i can get any slack with the reserve loop as well. If theres any compression possible then its too long... ect ect. Body position on high performace openings
Alexg3265 replied to zsombi's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
in my experience on 3 diff sizes of katanas from a 150 @1.6 to a 120 @ 2:1, the openings at subterminal are very touchy. Sit your ass still and go with the wing. Dont fight it. With the 150 and the 135 i could grab rears and steer the openings fairly well. With the 120, just small harness adjustments are all thats needed. I like to watch it open. If it does spin up, make sure you have altitude, and make sure your risers are even first and foremost. If theyre not, you better make them even, or get rid of it. heres a video of one subterminal spinner... ish and a few terminal openings and one simple 90 to give you an idea of a long recovery arc... https://youtu.be/7cNFsfFJ720 I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. went and saw it with the wife yesterday and we were sadly dissapointed... basic action movie with as many extreme sports packed in as possible... youd think they could have had some better angles on the wingsuiting... if i didnt know any better id just write it off to cg... i dont know what i was expecting, but yeah.... meh... the common rubber bands we use are 40lbs break strength on average... i use one on my gopro just wrapped around the screw just incase a riser knocks it out of its little slide thing... just saying..... Another thing to look at is try looking at threads... nylon thick threads. maybe 3 cord could work depending how many attachment points,,... I think you should be looking for threads rather than a tape or ribbon per se.... actually maybe wrapping paper ribbon might break around where you need... zip ties? get a fish scale and just start pulling and breaking shit... youll find something I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. Id recommend him.... youre going to pay a little more than someone desperately trying to get rid of something and he wont haggle much, but his descriptions are accurate and hes been around for a little while. I bought a canopy off of him over a year ago, shipping was fast, he was easy to deal with and it came as advertised. No complaints. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. So I've sat down with a couple people and we tried to duplicate this... The only way to reasonably get it all the way through is with a pull up cord. What I mean by that is that you physically cannot accidentally lodge the pin in like that without using your fingers and relieving tension on the loop, i.e. Pull up cord. I sat with my rig and 3 others and tried the best I could to force it through by any means necessary once the pull-up cord is removed and it just isn't happening. Go ahead and try yourselves. I even added a 1" too long closing loop and still damn near impossible. Neither myself or 3 others could get mine or theirs to go all the way through with just their hands. My conclusion is it had to be packed like that. It's pretty easy to get it through while packing and pulling on the loop. People here in Deland are pretty lax about pin checks. Just an observation I've made. I've lived here for a year and I've been asked to check someone's pin once. I always check mine.... Multiple times.... My point is even if it's a busy day with 3 planes running and you're on a 2 minute call, grabbing your gear from the packer, and running to the plane, stop and at least look at your shit. Jesus people. 20 seconds, that's all it takes. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...

Student systems with cutaway cables on both handles?

try a titanum coated version of whatever you're using. I wasnt having issues but i was getting the oil smoke and my needles were getting really really hot and sometimes breaking the upper thread on my zig zag machine. I just happened to run out of one size and ordered the titanium coated ones by mistake. Theyre the gold looking coated ones. supposedly they hold their point better but meh. I have noticed i have to be really rippin now to get it to heat up like it was before. It was a noticeable difference. Sewing toggle tips is where it gets hot... 6 layers of type 4 and hot glue.... i wouldnt expect someone with a demo to look over every stitch... its a fucking demo. its the companies attempt to woo you and get you to buy their product. Demos should be on point. period. I was talking about the slink tabs being sewn through the risers to keep the tab tucked in a prevent it from coming out. That means someone has to do that by hand with a large needle and thread. That person is usually a rigger. or should be. and since its a demo, its aerodynes rigger that had to finger fuck each riser and pry open and sew through and tie knots by hand literally less than an inch from where it wasnt sewn. oh well, glad you pulled out fine and now you got a hell of a story I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. Check to see if it's one of the affected rigs. Upt issued a service bull item about the spectra ripcord a having too high of pull forces. Too much polyurethane coating I guess and they need to be replaced by December 2015 or they're not airworthy. I don't have a link but I think it's all the 2014's? I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...

Does anybody notice that the slink was super tacked into the riser? I'm sorry but how do you pass a needle through that area at least 3 times and not notice that???. I'm a little ocd, and I've built my last 4 sets of risers myself, at home, so I guess I know what to look for but I find this very hard to believe that at least 4 people missed this. The seamstress, the qc person, the rigger who tacked the slink and hooked up the canopy and the end user. Well the end use can't really be held a fault here, but either way. When I started rigging, I didn't really know what to look for. But since building canopies and other gear, I've noticed and now look for different things, and know why they're supposed to be there. As for the risers, the only thing I use hot glue on is the confluence wrap before sewing. That's it. Period. One, it looks shitty and gets everywhere if you're not crazy careful and secondly, shit like this. I build the rear riser first entirely. Then measure and add shrinkage and boxW the front riser, then tack the dive loops. And then double check, then triple check, then again. Put weight on your risers and look at the front and back lengths... For some reason, well shrinkage is the reason, but almost all production risers I've seen are off front to back. The back is almost always shorter. My first set of risers (aerodyne) were 1/8th of an inch off on one side and almost 1/4" off on the other side. I figured I could do better and made my own. The response is good in at least they owned it and reimbursed you, but I'm really having an issue with the now we'll physically inspect them, or again or whatever. If the inspectors missed it the first time, then why won't they again. Working in production I can see how stuff gets missed but at least where I'm at, we have no less than two people do each inspection at multiple stages of the build, measure and check everything. When you're sitting there looking at 20 sets of risers, one could have slid into the wrong pile or who knows what. It becomes a contest to see who can find more shit. And we get really picky. Even a couple stitches with weird tension gets sent back and reworked. If it doesn't look perfect, it's no good. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...

People who have paid for ALL of their jumps
Alexg3265 replied to mik's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My wife and I both have close to 600 jumps and at that price we've spent about $30,000 on jumps.... Plus about 2500$ on tunnel... And well over $15,000 on gear.... Sewing machines come to about $4500... So not including gas and all that shit, we've spent about $52,000 on skydiving in 3 years.... Which is why we still rent and don't own a house... Or have food in the fridge. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof... -
can you please add Fluid Wings as a canopy manufacturer and the prime and helix as canopies. fluidwings.com I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...

Nobody would sell me an rds slider for a safire 159 either.... weird huh? Something about not needing it for performance, blah blah bla... So i made one myself... well actually like 20 of them and lots of hop and pops. I personally have a hate hate relationship with standard sliders. Theyre annoying, restrictive and i cant see shit behind me. I started for that reason and now its starting to help performance on a katana 135 loaded at 1.7. Its just so nice to take it off (which is faster than stowing and collapsing and stuffing it behind your head) and then letting everyting open up and being able to look around and see everything. ok bottom line is there are more benefits than just performance. It does add a minute to pack times but oh well. Totally worth it to me. Im going to go out on a limb and just guess that pd doesnt offer them for intermediate canopies because its more of a liability than its worth to them... If someone hooked it up wrong and then had a killer opening, well nothing falls back on them necessarily, but it looks bad. I dont know of a manufacturer (other than Fluid Wings) that will supply rds' with larger non cross braced canopies.... Were working on a high performance 9 cell that will come with the option of an rds standard. Its a little ways off yet, but its exciting....
