  1. I had this issue with my old pilot chute. I was able to loosen the knots and re-tighten them against the inside backing. Then under the knot, I pulled the two tapes together and just put a few zig zag stitches, (kind of a half bartack), to lock the knot from working its way down. That lasted another 150 jumps before I scrapped the whole PC bridle and bag. The bag was patched, the pilot chute fabric was no longer trustworthy. I made a new assembly and it's been all good with the tack under the knot. Aerodyne tacks them in a similar place. I can take pictures if anyone wants them. 2. I have a 9 year old icon that navy and orange. Orange still looks new. I jump in Florida, and I've slid in 2 landings on this container. But I'm in Florida. Much uv. My wife has a 1 year old icon with mostly neon pink. Faded as fuck already. We jump the same amount so side by side, aerodyne's orange they used years ago is better than the neon pink they use now. That's the only sure conclusion, but I'd say with orange you'd be golden. Added: my (assumed neon orange) cutaway handle is faded as fuck. So obviously it's a different orange. Used to be more neon if I'm remembering correctly I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  3. Route your bridle out the top end of the pilot chute (same side, when folded, as handle). Instead of out the opposite end as the handle. What this does is allow the bridle to easily slide out when pulled and it makes a horseshoe pretty much impossible. If it comes out the bottom when pulled, it binds up the pilot chute effectively locking it in. Pin checks and being mindful of what you're leaning on goes a long way towards keeping that pin in. Here's a video on pilot chute packing... Thanks to mr Germain http://youtu.be/axCeYlY_6io I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 4. Yep. My experience was about them same. I was told to get good at back and when I could hold a sit, They would let me join in. I would do 2 or 3 ways and be that guy 200' away. I've gotten much better and now I'm teaching people, but like you said its not going to be a regular thing if I'm chasing you all around all the time. It's for sure done when I try and give pointers and people won't listen or try and argue with the video. I could go jump with joe, bob, Steve, and Phil and I know it'll be a fun jump because we can all stay with each other and it's always fun. I will gladly let someone turn a jump into a zoo dive a few times before I'll get irritated. And I'm more than happy to jump with someone one on one and give feedback. I guess it's really their attitude about it and their honesty with theirselves in regards to their abilities. Nothing is more annoying than going up with a sky god and having to chase them around. Hell, I suck. I can stay head up and have no problem getting around and docking ect. Flip me over head down and I might as well be in AFF again. I don't go try and join the big head down jumps. See how that works? I'm getting coaching for my upside down awesomeness.... I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  5. I'm 5'11 205lbs and was 220 when I went through AFF. No problems at all. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  6. Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Godwin's law something to do with if you continue a forum thread, or any conversation long enough, someone will use a nazi reference or analogy? My last name is Godwin, so when I heard of this "law" I naturally wanted to see what it was. I seem to remember many forums with some mention of nazis... Care to explain booths law #3? And what a skyhook has to do with nazi's. I'm just confused by this thread. My wife has one and is predominately German. Oh shit that must be it. My wife's a nazi. Would explain why she wants to put "heavier doors" on the shower. Yeah that must be it. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 7. Yeah and we live in Naples... Middle of the Everglades. We both thought the same thing, but she didn't like it. In fact her preferred attire for free flying has become yoga pants and semi tight long sleeve t shirt. I never said she wasn't crazy. Maybe I could get her to describe what she didn't like but I have a feeling it won't make much objective sense. I think it's just preference. I do seem to see very few people in shorties though... Hmmm I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  8. Of the 6 cutaways I've helped look for that had skyhooks, on every one, the free bag, bridle and rpc were still hanging on by the skyhook. One was sitting right next to the tree that the main was in. The stills do seem to show a separation. When I first watched the video, my initial reaction was huh, that seemed a little slow for a skyhook... So did you find the freebag at all? Nice save though! 9. I'm training to be a rigger but I'm proficient with a sewing machine. I've made jumpsuits and used e thread. Made the bag, bridle and PC I'm using now, and also several removable sliders. Stretchy fabrics suck to sew, but other than that no big deal. Depending on how loose your sleeves are, consider installing a snap or something similar so you can roll them in, and snap them in place. Basically a little tape and button coming from in the sleeve, around the rolled in section, and back to the exterior of the sleeve and a snap, just above the elbow. That way when you hate having no sleeves, you didn't just ruin your jumpsuit. How often do you jump in shorts and t-shirt? My wife thought she wanted a shorty, and then hated it. So maybe borrow someone's, or something before you tell someone to cut up your suit. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 10. No reason in particular. Apparently I have too much spare time. I got it for next to nothing. I have all the materials to make a slider from scratch. And it'll be finger trapping and bartacking practice. It'll probably sit in its bag for a while, but I was just curious. It's could be a learning experience. I figured I would see how hard it would be to make and install a line set. Also, after very crudely checking the porosity on it, vs new f-111, I have deemed the excaliburs fabric to be porous as fuck, and I don't wanna land it. So it may make a nice wall ornament.... 11. Anyone know slider dimensions? What do you think of using dacron lines? I've got a complete long line set. I'd have to adjust lengths and maybe the cascades I realize, but no big deal. 12. Ok serious answer now. The fact that it is logging jumps means that either one of two things is happening. Either the pressure in your house is changing up and down several times which is pretty much not possible, or the barometer seems to think the pressure is going up and down. I'd put my money that it's not the battery. Sometimes those barometers just go bad. Sometimes they get out of calibration. Basically it converts air pressure into an electrical signal that's read by the processing unit. There's not too many things that could cause it to read up and down and log jumps... The actual barometer unit is a sub $5 part. Maybe it's bad or got knocked loose, or like someone said, something's maybe corroded or something. I don't know if they're waterproof, but even heavy humidity can slowly distroy electronics. Contact the manufacturer. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 13. Right on. Thanks man. I'll check with PD. It's going to be a project.... :) I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  14. Maybe it's aliens... That would be my guess. While you were sleeping they came down and installed a tracking device in your pro track. Now they're trying to activate your anal probe with it. Just put on a tin foil hat and you should be safe. I would put some foil around the altimeter as well so they can't communicate with it. Hope this helps! 15. Hey I have a weird request. Does anybody know or have the line trims for a 1989 PD Excalibur 170? I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  16. That hornet will be much tighter in the container than a sabre would be. Different fabrics. The hornet is galvenor fabric. Packs a size bigger...ish. My nitro 150 packs considerably larger than my Safire 159 did. The 150 packs like my old sabre 170. I'm gonna vote your container fit is fine to tight and that's not the issue. How close to the boc opening is the bridle flap. A large gap there (maybe from bigger hornet) will make the handles flap stretch further exposing more of it... Easier to works it's way out from under the right side flap. Idk, I'm bored at work, and that's my 2 cents. Edit to add: Hooray for not looking at the dates! Your welcome for reviving a 10 year old thread! I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  17. 1-5: triathalon 225 6-20: triathalon 190 21-30: triathalon 175 31-68: sabre 1 170 69-250: Safire 2 159 251-present: nitro 150 I fluctuated between 190-220 exit weight. Jumping mostly at a c-182 dz, pulling high and open airspace helps to learn canopy flight. A good coach helps too I guess. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 19. I've watched firsthand a big lightly loaded triathlon fold under half the canopy and spin at 150ft. I've seen a small crossfire with tons of speed collapse 10 ft off the ground. Anything is collapsible. Even sliders I hear. That being said, my nitro seems to handle very nicely in turbulence. It doesn't breathe that same way other canopies do. Must be the stiffer galvenor (spelling?) fabric. Or the gay little winglets? It's been rock solid. Usually I see squirrelly behavior out of the corners when you pick up speed plane out quick and lose speed. As that canopy surges forward due to lack of forward speed, it's very very sensitive to any crosswind. Think about it, the canopy is an arc. So if you get a side wind that exceeds a forward relative wind, it'll fold under that edge. (Try to make your canopy fly sideways) It's just physics. Try it up high. Get some speed and flare till you almost stall, let the brakes back I and watch the canopy dive. Until you regain speed and get that wing over your head, any side gust is going to tuck your corners under. I can replicate it with scary precision on a small scale. (5-20sqft canopies) yes I have too much time in my hands. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  20. Yes the slider slows the opening to acceptable forces and then its job is done and it's just in the way. It serves no purpose once you are open. I prefer to remove it completely. Another point I realized the other day was that by bringing it down you can greatly extend the life of your brake lines. If the brake line doesn't have to go through the grommet while you're yanking it up and down, all the better for the lines. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 21. http://iloveskydiving.org/view/videos/friday-freakout-skydive-malfunction-ground-rush-cypres-save/ This is why you don't undo your chest strap before releasing your toggles. He pulled his slider over after sitting in brakes and it released a toggle. He started spinning trying to fix it, chopped and couldn't find his reserve handle. The aad fired and the reserve slowed him down enough to survive. After you stow your slider, then release your brakes and then undo the chest strap. And do it immediately after opening. Don't wait till you get to the landing pattern to check your canopy. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  22. Generally, the faster you're going, the less turbulence will effect you. Most people will tell you your canopy will handle better in full flight in turbulence, rather than in brakes. I'm going out in a limb, but I'd be willing to say that any canopy by a major manufacturer nowadays will handle it very similarly at similar sizing and loadings. I don't think you can really objectively point and say canopies a, b and c are good in turbulence and canopies x,y and z are more prone to collapse. That being said, if you're questioning the turbulence, stay on the fuck on the ground. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. 23. What have you done? Gone back to being awesome of course! Stop paying all your bills, move to a crappy trailer on the dz. Spend all your money on jump tickets and beer. Enjoy life. Welcome back! I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  24. MOST excellent idea. Lotsa room inside the space of a hackey. Additionally, how about a switch, so that the unit is off when the pilot chute is cocked? When the pilot chute is collapsed, the unit is on. As soon as you land you cock the pilot chute and turn it off. Could whatever antenna is needed be incorporated into the pilot chute itself? Bag lock? There's one problem. Back to the three ring or manual on off. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet. My dad wouldn't let me use the ladder to try the roof...
  25. Also try collapsing it and undoing it on the ground. Have someone help you hold the slider. Have them hold the edges out and try grabbing the strings and collapsing it. You'll get familiar with how it works when you're not worrying or thinking about everything else going on. Just a suggestion. I was that kid jumping out if his tree house with a bed sheet.
