  1. I've had this happen before as well, on a rental rig - the leg straps were just snug enough to restrict blood flow from around the femoral artery (and its complex network of piping). Same situation... I had a little food in me, hop n pop on first jump of the day, everything is fine until I'm in the saddle. Really, it took everything I had to not pass out. I was seeing green and stars and would have been content to just throw up everywhere. But once I was on the ground and relaxed, breathed, took the rig off, and talked about it for a short bit, I was just fine.
  2. Whomever presented the greatest opportunity for the BOTH of us to get out alive. I ethically disagree with you asking to value one life over another. What if it were a newborn and a newborn with a terminal disease? A capitalist and a communist? Christian and Atheist?
  3. I like the idea of honourable mentions.. Mine are; 311: I was lucky and had pit tickets, stood 5 feet from the stage. They were clearly on amphetamines but handled them well and put 162% of their energy into the show. Buffett (x2): C'mon... It's a Buffett show. Enough said.
  4. Worst: Eric Clapton. I had 11th row floor seats. He played a roughly one-hour set, went through the motions, then left. No heart whatsoever. Best: Boy George. Yes, THAT Boy George. Very small venue of less than 1,500 people. Put on a great show, and it was more like a jam session. Who knew? I'm sure there are a few I can't remember also, but those are the ones that stand out
  5. About 5 months. I started in December, in Colorado. Took me 10 jumps. Re-do's on levels 1, 4, and 7.
  6. I do believe that these are the serial numbers... I hope they are, it's what I wrote in on the registration page. Location of the S/N is one thing I couldn't find ANYWHERE in the manual or road map for the OptimaII.
  7. When I held my last position, I had a really big office and a staff that pretty much did great as long as I left them alone. So most of my time was spend throwing darts and napping. That's not the MOST unprofessional thing I've done though. I simply can't go into that on a public forum. It's pretty wild though.
  8. +1 When did our own personal politics become a factor? It didn't, until a few posts ago. Enough of that nonsense.
  9. there are SO many "great" lines in different films. It's all in the context I suppose.. Nonetheless, this will ALWAYS be one of my favourites. From the 2004 film "Closer", Clive Owen's last line to close the scene. (Link is set for the end... BUT if you have 6 minutes, watch the WHOLE THING) ---NSFW--- http://youtu.be/6M_P7rSWA4E?t=6m24s
  10. One of the main reasons I started was to meet new people and I have to tell you, the folks I've met skydiving are some of the best I've known - military or not. Definitely a good idea to at the very least visit your local dropzone(s). Get a feel for the vibe, learn some of the jargon maybe, watch people, talk some... What could it hurt?
  11. Definitely.. I'd say find a way to get to Venice Beach. It's a pretty sunset there and there are for sure some interesting folks on the boardwalk. If you're gonna rent a car, check out Long Beach and the Queen Mary. Good seafood eatin'. You'll drive right by the Goodyear Blimp hangar too.
  12. Once you do the obligatory touristy things, absolutely nothing. It's a barren desert with some interesting scenery in the form of a few mountains, canyons, and rocks.
  13. Are you still smoke-free? How are you feeling about it? I started weaning myself down a week or so ago, using lozenges here and there, and now I'm only using lozenges. It's been three days now. I've been getting a lot of nicotine pings, and thats okay - they usually pass. This morning though, I felt like a bit of a two headed jerk monster
  14. My bloodline contains both Norwegian and Austrian nobility...
  15. If skydivers can't land there because of owls that live in the ground, then how come it's zoned agricultural which would allow tractors to till the soil over top of the owl's burrows? Seems to me the skydivers would do less damage than a giant tractor pulling a roto-tiller behind it. That's a good question, Truman!
  16. It's clear that the city of Creswell wants off the hook - and that is understandable because IIRC there have already been Part 16 proceedings that favoured Eugene Skydivers. Last I heard there was speculation of an unknown settlement (although it was estimated at the relatively small amount of $50,000) that Creswell would pay to Eugene Skydivers to cover lost revenues, legal expenses, etc., and that settlement amount was clearly lower than what E.S. could have sought. Alas, it seems as though this is not the case now. Creswell won't come to the mediation table with any sort of active litigation in progress. That, IMO, is the only thing that fails to display good faith. Eugene Skydivers shouldn't be expected to withdraw their complaint just for the opportunity to negotiate with a city that obviously doesn't want to negotiate. Creswell economically discriminated against the dropzone. Now it's simply an issue of getting them to eat lima beans. The longer they drag this out the worse it will taste. All this from the outside looking in though... Just my opinion.
  17. I actually was there for what went on, via live streaming. The only part I didn't hear was the closed executive session between the commissioners and legal counsel - and NO-ONE got to listen in on that. The #1 reason the application was denied was because there was no ironclad, 100% guarantee that every jump would land on target every time... followed by reason #2, over-intensive use of the agriculturally zoned land, and #3, the burrow owls. I can't recall much discussion over the USPA radial distance hazard recommendations, although it was mentioned no fuss was made.
  18. I THINK I know where you're going with this, Stuart.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Xuvcpjf1JU
  19. It seemed pretty apparent that the #1 reason the application was denied is because of the "100% on target landings" argument. That, IMO, is a very weak argument because as the DZO/applicant pointed out, the county commissioners are holding the DZ to one standard while the rest of the general public seemingly is being held to another.
