And this is absolutely valid - I'm not challenging your comfort level in any sense but rather just adding my own experience; I too am a bigger guy and with a larger main, a 210 Spectre on microline. I jump one of Jerry Baumchen's NoStoBags. Not long ago I was in a two-out situation and the locking stows did keep the main in the bag. However, I DID replace them immediately prior to the jump so they couldn't have been in stronger shape. I use larger bands and double-stow. Surely, had one or both of those stows not held it would have been a much more interesting two-out. I am wondering now IF the mass of larger canopies in a semi-stowless makes them more susceptible to out of sequence deploymentsas opposed to smaller wings. Anyone have a thought on this?

FWIW, I say don't do it. There are alternatives and you'll both most likely be better off if you were to explore those options. Then again, I'm a jaded and bitter person who's been chewed up and spit out more times than a man should allow. But if you absolutely must, here is some insight from an article in the Huff Post along with a link. Good luck no matter what your decision Men who spent $2,000 to $4,000 on engagement rings were 1.3 times more likely to end up divorced than men who spent $500 to $2,000. Women who received expensive engagement rings also experienced higher rates of divorce. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/03/expensive-weddings-study_n_5929056.html

What do you say to someone before a jump?
BigMikeH77 replied to MartinRobichaud's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As I find myself loading the planes more often than loading INTO them, I mix the low-fives and fist bumps with a carefully concocted special blend of "Have a good one"'s, "Yeah buddy"'s, and "Have a great jump"'s. The frequency of each combination is mathematically calculated using the latest space-age algorithms to maximize effectiveness and minimize fatigue and perception of repetition. when performed skillfully, it goes smooth - Like Carstairs. -
Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
BigMikeH77 replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I made the original airplane noise downfall parody, and know the perfect clip to use for this one... -
No glitter, no stickers... We need to talk about your flair. Don't you want to express yourself?

This is the crap that pisses me off to no end. The correct phrasing is "claims she grew up with Kunis in Ukraine..." There's no THE. It's just Ukraine.

Mama June definitely. And not one of the wickid smaaht races of aliens, either; but instead one of those sedentary, globules kinds that are just sort of there to the detriment of the intergalactic gene pool. I think the mattresses of Squornshellous Zeta are more keen.

Oh I've missed weekend numbers! I've been grounded since late October thanks to a bad landing, but it's looking like I'll by jumping again first weekend of May. That being said; -0-1* *The (1) represents a first for me while working at the DZ this past weekend.

It looks like Dropzone.com had been miscategorized by BlueCoat ProxySG as a file sharing site as of Tuesday. This resulted in some of us not being able to access the site "during normal business hours" due to network filters. I've sent in a request to BlueCoat and had it recategorized as Sports/Recreation ;-)

I was on borrowed gear, taking a basic canopy course when I hit a windsock post on landing. In my defence, the windsock had been ripped off for some time and all that remained was a tall thin grey post that blended in quite well with the background. Funny part was that once I got over my WTF moment, I looked up at the now bent post only to see a piece of torn, bright green nylon hanging from it. I was livid - I had just ruined my friends canopy... I think they heard the cursing from the other side of the DZ. Come to find out, the nylon on the post was the last little remnant from the windsock. Embarrassing was not just the phone call.. "Uh, yeah.. so I just took out a windsock post with your canopy".. But also the fact that they left the post out there for a while, still bent. You know what they say, if you can't be an example...

On my rig, I decided to go ahead and install the bumpers that PD sent along with the slinks. I'm right around where you are in terms of jump numbers and possibly in the same W/L neighbourhood. I gave it some good long thinking sessions, and to me it just seems like the slider moving past the links and toggles presented a greater risk to my own safety than the potential aerodynamic benefit may provide. Again, I speak only for myself here, but having to mess with the slider more adds another step - and for no real benefit on a canopy of my size. In the future this may very well change but this is where I am for now. .02

You could see who's performing at the Comedy Works. There's locations Downtown and near the Tech Center.

You heard correct. Think of school cafeteria Mexican food but worse. It's pretty rough.

I just bought one of Jerry's NoStoBags a couple of weeks ago. Great workmanship, and there are detailed measuring instructions for you to follow. I asked him the same thing about stowing the lines - the three sided design works with "snaking" the lines back and forth. He suggested speaking to a rigger and asking him/her to demonstrate the way in which reserve lines are stowed in the freebag.

Are you new to the sport? New to the area?

What part of STL are you in? There are a few in the general area. Fly Free down in Festus has some great peeps and a big landing area.

Now I want a PBJ. Cool.

not recognizing skydivers I've met before/jumped with
BigMikeH77 replied to chemist's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Happens all the time to me. It certainly doesn't help that people look different when all geared up than in their street clothes, either. I'm not one of those people who are great with names and faces, who can meet someone once at a party and then sell them an investment two weeks later. Some solutions include but are not limited to; "I'm sorry, I've completely forgotten your name" "What's your name, again?" and so on... Don't sweat it. -
Jesus, where did all the animosity come from... It takes mad skillz to drive a minivan and maintain your Y chromosome.

Save money AND focus more on canopy piloting... AFF is great but it seems like IAD/SL gives a student better opportunities to really focus on piloting.
