Helmet...Would you use either of these???
BigM replied to BigM's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yep. Goggle strap holder, but that snag point is easily taken care of if you were going to use it. "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car." -

Has anyone seen these in hand? Wonder if they are useable for skydiving? They are Snell certified so should offer more head protection than normal skydiving helmets. Thoughts everyone? Excuse me, but on 12-7-04 I believe we cut Carolina's butt 20-14 in the Ga.Dome on ESPN in a nationally televised game. I will take an IBC rootbeer please! "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."

OK... I'm a dumb-ass. You log onto the ole' dropzone.com, you go to forums, seems like there should be an easier way to check your own postings (or to be more correct, the responses to them) than doing a search with your user name. If you see one of your postings you can click on profile and then view users posts, but that seems to be the only way. Am I missing something? Thanks. It sounded funny, but hell, you never know what some people might try. Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."

Does anyone know anything about this? http://www.peapit.com/News/india.html Washington, DC January 1, 2004 Capitol Hill Skydivers let go all manifesters today, becoming the first DZ in the country to implement a self serve kiosk connected to a customer service center in India. Madras Manifesters promises to save any DZ thousands of dollars a year in operating expenses. Jumpers walk up to the kiosk and enter their assigned ID's. The current manifest lineup is displayed, showing load numbers, passengers, and aircraft type. They select their desired load and the kiosk ejects a jump ticket. Credit cards are automatically billed. If the jumpers experience any problems with the machine, they can talk to a Madras Manifesters customer service rep via an audio chat screen. The reps are trained to lose their accents, keep up with American sports teams, and engage in small talk about weather, celebrity news, and financial scandals in order to mask their location. Capitol Hill Skydivers DZO Willy Taxus anticipates saving enough money to make a "contribution" towards legislation favorable to the skydiving industry. "Sure, it's unfortunate that I had to lay off my manifesters, but hey, this isn't The New Deal. I have a business to run." I was reviewing the jump log today and found that I was not under full canopy until 2800. I toss at 3800. With my experience level (low) that seems too low of an opening. Am i worried about nothing or should I deploy sooner? Your input and comments are appreciated. Thanks. What has been your observations of where you were at when you got in the saddle before the Neptune? I hate that you have gotten spooked by the "new" info given to you by your new toy. I would assume that you have your A license and therefore you aren't breaking any BSRs or guidelines (3K) but the bottom line is you have to be comfortable with your own pull altitude. I personally pull at 3 unless on a big way jump. At 49 jumps, or even 4900 jumps you will never always "pull at 3800 feet", but rather around 3800 feet. You will get better at it as you go along and will pull closer to your designated pull altitude, but right now it is probably just a ballpark number. If you are in the saddle at 2800 feet you've done a great job. Just always pull safe and expect a malfunction and be ready to go to work on every single skydive. I jump a S2 loaded at 1.25. For those that said they had noticed the slight off-heading openings or "searching" as I like to call it, it's not your body position. I don't think I've talked to an S2 owner yet that didn't experience some of it. My end cells are occasionally tardy getting fully open but only maybe twice would I have called it end cell closure. The slider is fine but someone just looking for an issue might deem it as mildly sluggish once in a while. Bottom line, I don't think there's anything else I'd care to jump on a daily basis. It would be nice to be able to have a way to view only those posts that have attachments. I have heard others say the same before. Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."

Anyone gotten burned out on skydiving?
BigM replied to mfrese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Cindy- just curious: If you made such a dramatic break from the sport (and found your "real" friends) why are you still trolling this forum? "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car." -
OK, I'm a dumb ass. So tell me, why are they putting out students without goggles on? Neither of the 2 students in the video had goggles on. Hmmmm..... Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."

How far do YOU drive to get your skydiving fix?
BigM replied to schattenjaeger's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Depending on which DZ I go to, it's 2:00 - 2:45 one way. And I have driven that far knowing I was only going to be able to get in just one jump. Yep, I am a sad individual. I just drove to the DZ this past Friday, got there about 10:00 a.m. and stayed until Saturday night. Got in a whopping 2 jumps- only 2 loads that went up- due to the wind. GRRRRRRRRRRR......... "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car." -
Sooooo........ what can we do about it. I had guessed that turning off the firewall might do it, but I have enough troubles with the firewall ON that I don't want to invite more by turning it off. C'mon computer geeks, help a brother out! Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."

Anyone know why sometimes while looking at photos in the galleries the thumbnail image or the regular image will display an "access denied" message??? It does it intermittently not just on certain photos... just when it feels like it. I am running windows xp if it matters. Thanks in advance. I jump a top-mounted TRV-22. I use the d-box (shown on the bonehead link Lori posted) that is rounded. It is listed as the "large d-box for trv style cameras." It doesn't specifically list the 22 but it fits nicely. Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Get yourself windows media encoder. It's free. If ya want it on skydivingmovies.com, I can help with uploading. Dave Thanks Dave- I just downloaded the media encoder and it looks like the ticket! I'll e-mail you for help (if needed) sometime over the next week or so as I play with it. Thanks again! Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Naw... he wasn't upset. He was just busting my balls a little bit, and maybe showing off that he had been able to pick that up! "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."

I'd love to if I freaking knew how to! I'm still trying to figure out how to compress a clip to a manageable size, and then my dumb-ass isn't quite sure how to up-load it. I am about to try an add a still camera to my helmet. I am flying a Hawkeye with a TRV-22 in a Bonehead d-box (I have the taller, rounded one... they make 2 of them, the other is square and boxy). It looks like for now I am going to add a Canon Elph LT with a tongue switch. This camera is very small, very light, and takes respectable, serviceable photos. (Long term I am getting a flat-top pro and adding a Rebel, but that is another matter.) Any suggestions on the best way to mount the Elph? Ideally I would like to add an aluminum plate under my d-box that would extend out and down with a small platform for the Elph. Comments? Suggestions? Flames? Thanks in advance. This past weekend I am filming a tandem out of the King Air. Perfect launch, tandem perfectly in frame, and since it was the last tandem of the load I get the money shot of the plane nose down behind the tandem. It was the sunset load and as the plane came into view it was particularly picturesque the way the sun was catching it... I couldn't resist so I panned over for about 2 seconds and centered the plane in my ring sight, then right back to the tandem. I am in the hanger packing, the pilot comes walking in and he says "Why did you pan over to me when I came down past you guys?"!!! I was SO impressed. But the footage was awesome, the student LOVED it and even gave me a $20 tip! I still am in awe of the pilots eyesight and observation skills though! Anyone got links to the scoring, reporting, or "official" web-sites for the nationals? Thanks. Blue 111- Jeff "When I die, I want to go like my grandmother, who died peacefully in her sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in her car."
