Universal background check equals gun registration
OHCHUTE replied to dpreguy's topic in Speakers Corner
We live in a criminal industrial corporate society. They'll pass more laws and bust more people. Lawyers and the state will make more money off of fines. Look what FAA did with airspace. More airspace restrictions caused 6,000 pilots to get accused of airspace violation who before the restrictions were law abiding citizens. Some father passes a gun to his son and will get busted for an illegal gun transfer. They're out to produce more felons via more rules. -
Not all chokes extend past the end of the barrel, and having two extended chokes can make it annoying to change them without a key. You could have one barrel with a choke you don't plan on changing very often (like medium range/modified choke) and an extended choke in the other one. If I was going to have one extended choke, it would be in the top barrel as shown in the photo. Yes I was responding to you. You don't seem to have a clue the use of chokes, or barrels of a shotgun while shooting skeet. I've address most of what you said. Here another one.. you don't need a key to change extended chokes even if two chokes are installed. They are not torqued down that tight anyway. Most expert trap and skeet shooters never change chokes anyway as they most often never change their handicap....only then one might change a choke. My skeet gun has FIXED chokes, not threaded for replacment chokes: why? I know what I need and I use barrel pending what shot I'm taking. I do realize it might be difficult for one to understand shooting sports when they're not that involved with the sport or with shotguns in general.

The DUI argument doesn't work with guns. Why should my right to keep and own a gun be restricted for any reason when it is my right under the Constitution to have that right. Any law infringing that right is against the Constitution. Just just because we a a couple of nutjobs out shooting up the place doesn't mean rights should be restricted. If they want to change the laws then they need amendment to the Constitution abolishing the 2nd, not end rights via state taxes, fees, restrictions, goofy training classes etc.

Did Cornell University end its shooting program?

By their own organisation. Which at the very least puts them alongside the majestic physical specimens who participate in sports such as darts, and snooker. I'm sure you'd do just fine skiing mile and then trying shoot a .22 It's athletic ability to hold a rifle up. Prone is even more demanding. -
The guy opened up that's for sure. Got out his frustration. We have friends who son is back from Iraq and the mom is afraid she's going to die from this kid and the dad has guns in the house. Powder keg. Lesson to Presidents, all Presidents: deployments last forever for the people you send, and their families. Make damned sure it's worth it to the country, and not just to you. Cheney is laughing his ass off on that one. Like they care. They want the money.

You change which barrels you shoot pending what bird your after. The gun could have one or two extended chokes or none extended. Extended only allow for quick change without using choke wrench. You select desired chokes before starting the round. You use tighter choke for farway birds and more open chokes for close ups. Don't forget about the barrel selector switch. Safety is always off.

Maryland's proposed Firearms Safety Act Bill 281
OHCHUTE replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
There's anti-gun stuff happening all over the country. In order to keep each one specific to its own particular actions, they need to be separate threads. If you threw them all together in one place, the discussion would get too muddled and no one would be able to keep track. Oh, we don't just have separate threads. We have separate fibers of threads. Perry would have known that right off. Our rights and liberties are under attack by the Democratic left who don't seem to care about rights. But they're out there trying to buy guns while they can before the bans kick in. -
I agree It's all about stock companys, and selling stock. The non stock firms are going away fast. Just drive though Georgetown in DC. There was once hundreds of mom and pops. Now all the franchises, stock firms are there and you'll find this in most cities.

I don't quite understand the concept of ushering the mentally unstable around guns or a firing range either, the same thing Ms Lanza did with her son in trying to socialize him, But one thing I agree with: Just because there are dumb things done, my rights should not be infringed. Nor should I be taxed either or rights taken from me. Maybe instead of pushing pills the mental health community might develope some guidelines: 1. Don't let nutjobs around guns, knives, acid, autos, beer, wisky, rope, schools, ducttape, large trash bags, shovels, drugs or prostitutes. 2. Keep an eye on the nutjob etc.

If you could figure out a way to deploy paraglider via skydive would be really cool especially to do thermals or to go cross country. Yes this is cool. Step off the cliff and float around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOfBb5OdkVw I realize the weight/ noise with motor attached.

They'll use guns as an excuse to levy more taxes against property owners to deal with perps in the city. Right now they are compromising the whole higher education industry by flim flaming college debt securities which will soon put college tuition rates beyond most American's reach. The next bubble. Also enslaving kids to life long indebtness as you can't declare bankruptcy on college debt. It's forever.

Did Cornell University end its shooting program?
OHCHUTE replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
Last week I was going to post the link showing young university students participating in a sport. When I looked again the pictures were gone which invited inquire as to what happened to the information. As we learned as classes fill up they take off the information. As simple as that. Maybe we should start a thread depicting people enjoying competitive shooting hobby. Here is one: The participants are considered ATHLETES http://www.usashooting.org/news/2013/1/8/333-usa-shooting-recognizes-sports-best-as-2012-athletes-of-the-year -
Ha, but taking a single shot to kill two crosing birds in skeet is not allowed. Can be done, and easy to do even by mistake but doesn't count when scoring. You would only score one hit out of possible two hits for taking one shot to hit both birds. Shooting sports are great and challenging.

I'm looking at portability. Hanglider you need cliff or tow. Paraglider you need cliff. Power paraglider you need an open area. Then there is kiteboarding, snow, ground, water. I realize there are many different aspects to any type of chute or kite sport.

I hear NIH is retiring apes. I bet they might work better locating flying bullets and IED's better than humans. No sense having humans walk around when apes could work just as well. Just put US military outfits on them and let them loose.

If you have $8,000 to spend on skydiving or power paragliding I'd be half tempted to try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlbQ0xbbpOQ From the back of your car and an open field....

Did Cornell University end its shooting program?

Isn't the internet great! Also talking to people outside of what is learned on the internet is also good. Who would have known why the info was removed if questions of people were not asked. -
I have the solution says the democraft: let people in Detriot proper keep their illegal guns and meanwhile take all the guns away from people in the state of Michigan, including those who participate in shooting sports. Further tax the Michigan resident property owners. Make it so burdensome they won't want a gun. Sue the teacher for hurting the youth who obvousily are still affected from slavery, give millions to the deceased family and a free education to the remaining perp, and let him play NFL football at 10m per year. Poor black kids for being taken advantage of by a gun wielding teacher. And this surely might come true.

I don't know where to post this topic as it's not parachute specific topic but could turn into social discussion.... I've looked at a couple of video's of people operating power paragliders. It appears some of the same techniques are used in manuvering the parasail (chute) much like a parachute. Also, when considering parasailing (non power), one can even thermal, something you can't do skydiving, not that you'd want to as sky diving is more prefered than climbing in a thermal. So my questions are: why not learn to power paraglide before learning to skydive. There might be more opportunity as you don't need an aircraft. Also, can you use a parasail, and thermal upwards from a skydive plane, provide you find lift on the way down. It would seem just as much fun floating around for two hours, as it would be decending in 45 seconds etc. I guess one question to ask is: do they make paragliding parachutes that can be deployed once leaving the aircraft. Your thoughts?

Women in combat have nothing to due with strength issues. Eveyone knows helicopters come and carry out the dead or wounded. Besides women can walk just as good through mine fields as the the men as that's all we are doing in combat anyway: walking around looking for IED or where the fire is coming from, not going out there to kill the person firing the gun. Want proof: Watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_GZzjFyeaM Besides the guy wearing the camera is so out of shape he can barely walk across the street. Surely a woman could walk around like this, hide out in an empty house, and count her empty mags just as good as the men can. If you call this combat. I doubt the men wouldn't let women run forward and take out the ONE guy that held 50 of you down, the only problem with allowing women in combat... they might show up the men! And stop shooting if you can't see anything! No wonder you are out of bullets!

Did Cornell University end its shooting program?

NEW INFORMATION: I am told by people at the Cornell athletics dept that once the classes fill up they remove the pictures. They had a lot of pics showing students holding competitive rifles and pistols the reason I thought the program might have ended. Especially after seeing the article above. Classes are now filled: Hoorah for students wanting to compete with rifles and pistols. Horrah you need be a US Citizen to participate in shooting sports at Cornell. Hoorah for Cornell to even offer this to students who want to participate. http://pe.cornell.edu/physed/targetsports-s13.html -
Maryland's proposed Firearms Safety Act Bill 281
OHCHUTE replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
A friend sent me this: Martin OMalley (D) is current Gov't of MD and is rumored to be candidate for POTUS. Voted for use of speed cameras to reduce state budget deficeit. Passed bill that raised taxes 14%. Against capital punnishment. Proposed children of undocumented immigrants eligible for in-state college tuition, put to referendum and measure passed with 58% of MD voting for it. MD is mostly democractic state with many minorities including Illegals who flocked to the state to get state benefits. MD gun laws are already restrictive: 20 round limit on mags Only handguns on MD approved handgun list can be sold. Thousands of guns are not approved. Can only carrry gun to and from the range and hunting area and gun shop, no where else etc. Hardly any concealed carry, costly and you must justify reason for it, via carrying cash etc. Off duty cops are not allow to carry. Firearms Safety Act 281- if it passes: As of OCT 31 2013 Anyone who ATTEMPTS to purchases a firearm must: 1.Submit FBI fingerprint card 2. Submit to FBI background check 3. Take 8 hour gun training course and QUALIFY, and pay $100 for a qualification card, which does nothing but issue a card that must be renewed every 5 years. They'd need hundreds of firearms instructors to do this. 4. Pay up to $600 to complete police paperwork and wait 21 days. With state and federal backlog this could take months before buyer gets their gun. 5. Ban most all semi-automatic rifles including .22 tubular fed rifles and limits to 10 rounds. I'm told half of all the state gun shops will close if this bill is passed. ANTI Bill 281 Rally proposed FEB 6 11:30- 1.30 Lawyers Mall, end of Rowe BLVD in Annapolis MD. -
Your position is: you can't defend against a mentally ill person with a gun, hence you don't need to have a gun. While it might be true it's hard to defend against a mentally ill person with a gun, does not mean we should loose our right to keep/ own / or bare arms. ONE HUGE THING YOU ARE MISSINGS IS: gun owners don't necessarily own guns to defend themselves againt the mentally unstable. In fact, most sensible gun owners keep guns locked up and they can't even be used for defensive purposes. The majority of gun owners have guns because guns are fun to shoot at the range. It's a hobby for most of us. And right now, you and other antigun people want to minimize our hobby and limit our access and use of guns. It's the same as having the FEDs place annual inspections on your chute, a $600 fee, an 8 hour annual safety coures and prohibiting you from using a certain size chute due to concerns that the size you select is too dangerous for your weight. YOUR HOBBY and the equipment you use for your hobby under attack. If you don't like guns that's OK. Just don't tell me I can't enjoy my hobby and get off the idea that guns are only for defensive purposes, as most guns are not used in that manner. NO GUN can defend against a landmine (nutjob) when the nutjob goes off unexpectedly. YES WE AGREE. BUT WE DISAGREE that we should loose our rights as a result of unpredicable behaviour of humans.

Did Cornell University end its shooting program?
OHCHUTE replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
Guys, what I'm saying is based in physical observation of Cornells website last week that included a pretty hefty set of pictures and information about their pistol and shooting athletic program. It's not there now. I'll call the university next week and find out what happened to the information and post what I learn. (It would be unfortnate to learn Cornell and other universities have ended their shooting programs.)
