I know a guy that has a cypres control unit tattooed on the back of his neck, where is sits under the yoke of some rigs. The cable looks like it's going into his skin. I think it looks cool, but he hates it. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

The premise of Scalia's argument is weak. It basically say "because homosexual sex was illegal at the time of the writing of the constitution, then it's against what the constitution stands for". If that's the case, then we'll have to change all our laws to go back 200 years. I think burning witches was legal back then, correct? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Take alcohol in little bottles on the plane. Drink at 30,000 feet. I find it to be a better feeling than being hungover at 30,000 feet. Obviously, don't do it if you're going to rent a car when you get there, but if you got a 10 hour flight, you'll be good. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I like your attitude, Muenkel. And let me add this: "Don't be too much of an asshole, otherwise you're just stealing oxygen from people that could make better use of it."

Thanks. It varies in length and color, depending on how lazy I am to get it cut and dyed. How about blue? I attached the platinum for comparison. Pics of my hairy butt may be available by PM I don't dye anywhere below the neck. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Definitely next year! Tell Mike to jave the King Air there next time we're out. Or WFFC!! See ya then. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Don't know - never watch TV. I like this girl on the website though. Think she likes red hair? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Well, I've been frosted, platinum and blue. I told my hair stylist I wanted fire-engine red this time, and he came pretty close to what I was looking for. Hair this color can only mean one thing - self-employed! I guess it could mean unemployed, too, but you wouldn't be looking for serious work with hair like this. I think I like blue better, but this is fun for now. I even got a compliment from the cute lesbian at the ice cream shop. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I vote for a guy with really big feet that is trying to make use of some old bearskin rugs from the 60s. Must get hot in that thing! Also, in Florida, these things are AKA skunk-bears. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Wow. I just got this one recently, and was confused. Thanks for clarifying! Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Nice list, but it could use a little beefing up. Let's just add a few phrases here: WANNA SEE MY TITS? I don't want to have sex with you, but I'm feeling insecure about my body and this is a desperate cry for physical attention. DO YOU WANT TO SLEEP HERE? Sleep, yes, sex no. I don't want to have sex with you, but I like knowing you want to have sex with me. This is a tremendous ego boost for me. You're a guy, so your ego is irrelevant. WHAT FLAVOR OF ICE CREAM WOULD YOU LIKE FOR YOUR SECOND SCOOP? I desperately want to have sex with your girlfriend, and you're not invited. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

0:2:1 WFFC and I made it out to West Tennessee Skydiving for a couple of jumps out of their Cessna. I guess the King Air was at another DZ for the weekend, but that's OK - I love Cessnas. Spending 2 hours getting on a load wasn't that fun, though. Thanks to all at WTS for being hospitable and we look forward to jumping with you guys again next year. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. Corporations will always choose cheaper over higher quality. The people making those decisions don't understand technology well enough to really know what is higher quality, and you can be sure that some marketing person is putting a positive spin on anything that comes out of the foreign sweatshops, making it seem like their idea to outsource was just as good and saved the company X million dollars. At the same time, users expect software to be poorly written and fail - consumers don't demand even reasonable quality of software, so we don't get it, and poorly written software that comes from India is just as good as poorly written software from Silicon Valley. I moved to project management because as a software person, I can't compete with anyone billing 1/5th of what I do, no matter what the quality is. But the same American companies will always put an American "face" (i.e. project manager) on the foreign-built applications, so there is still (very little) room in PM. If the US wants to keep tech jobs, there are only two things that can happen. 1 - The government steps in and regulates off-shore development. This will never happen because the lawmakers are in the pocket of the same corporations that save money on overseas outsourcing. 2 - Everyone in IT unionizes and sends a message to american corporations that workers won't put up with it. It worked for the auto industry 50 years ago. But it's not likely to happen, due to the logistics and the fact that IT people don't really have a history of forming unions (a few companies like Boeing are an exception). So there really is no answer, and American workers will continue to suffer globalization growing pains. The best thing an American IT person can do is learn to speak Japanese, and go to work in Japan, leveraging the same exchange rate that Indians, Chinese, etc use to our disadvantage. For my birthday this year, I bought myself a sewing machine. The UPS guy just delivered it. This thing is very cool! I've always had a weakness for gizmos. Thanks to hookitt for helping me pick out a machine. I asked my mom to teach me how to use the thing as a birthday present, so she brought her old machine over and I've been sewing up my freefly suit. I can't believe how many holes I put in that suit - I've got to learn how to land jeremyneas, you should be happy - that suit is gonna look good as new. I've got the green side all patched and the stitches mended. Now I've just got to change thread and get the purple side. As a bonus, I'm also mending all my old jeans and clothes that have holes in them. With any luck, I'll be a rigger by next year. That is if I can convince hooknswoop to spend five hours again watching me pack another reserve Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

No jumping this weekend. Spent a few days at the Blue Hole in New Mexico doing some scuba diving. I got my "Stress & Rescue" rating. They tried to drown me, but couldn't quite do it Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

With slinks, I make an effort to always adjust them while I'm packing. It adds only about 30 seconds to the pack time, but I push the tab inside the riser, and if necessary, I slide the lines around to adjust it and make sure the slinks get "set" and the tab stays in the riser and out of the way. err - the tunnel in Malaysia: Does it have laminar air flow? Seriously, I will probably be traveling to Singapore early next year and could afford a stopover in the tunnel if it's cheap and a good tunnel Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Glad to hear it Steve-o. Now spend a lot of money here - we need more economic stimulus. Hmmm - need American wife for Steve. They just opened a retirement community a few blocks away - I'm sure you could find a few lonely widows there. Seriously, it's not like everyone else isn't doing it. My pathetic uncle is taking off for Russia this week to meet his mail-order bride (I don't even want to know how young she is). This might be funny if he hadn't done pretty much the same thing with a Korean girl about 20 years ago. I've got such a weird family Helps explain me, I guess Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

True - they can easily be off by as much as 500 feet. Some also have a tendency to read high, and others read low. But this author is specifically saying that altimeters - at least from the 1960s - don't read accurately until you reach terminal velocity. I'm wondering if this is still true of modern ones. I'm pretty sure older skydiving altis were barometric as well. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I'm reading an old skydiving book from the 60s, and the author states that the altimeters aren't very accurate for the first 500 feet. Book is "Skydiving - the Art and Science of Sport Parachuting", by Bud Sellick, 1961. "The altimeter won't tell the correct altitude for the first five or ten seconds of acceleration. By the time you reach terminal velocity it should read correctly." Is this true of older altimeters, but not true of modern ones? Or is it something that still holds for modern altimeters? If so, why? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I know hooknswoop intentionally packed a lineover on his main to see if he could cut the offending line with a hook knife. He could not. He said it was impossible to see which line was a problem. It might be easier to do under a larger canopy. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
