Have you had a car accident driving to a dz
riddler replied to reddevil1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Never had an accident, speeding ticket or even flat tire driving to and from DZs for over four years. Fly fast, drive slow Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -

DEATH. Soon becoming illegal in a Brazilian town near you
riddler replied to highfly's topic in The Bonfire
I predict this town will become a major retirement community. People that are afraid to die might just believe that the grim reaper is a law-abiding entity Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
No, and I didn't expect it to increase in one year the same amount as it decreased in over three years. Besides, it was never at 1. Additionally, the real interest rates that we all pay are prime PLUS whatever the financing companies add. 4% fed = 7-8% for most end consumers. Has your salary increased by 8% this year? I don't agree. I believe they are and will continue to be valuable training aids. But I do think there will be market shifts. For one thing, we'll probably (I hope) start seeing tunnel training incorporated into AFF, for areas that have both student dropzones and a tunnel (hmmm, Colorado comes to mind ). Personally, I used tunnel time to further my own skills with the objective of becoming an instructor - I expect that more people will do that, rather than waiting 10 years and getting a few thousand jumps. Also, I don't see how any team could be competitive if they didn't train in the tunnel. As long as we have 4-8 way (and even VRW now), we'll have people split tunnel time to train together. Then there will be people that are willing to accept the risk of tunnel time, but not the risk of actual jumping, and they will make entire new sports out of tunnels. The big risk of tunnels, as I see it, is that the cost of flying time will continue to increase - already it's more than half the cost of real freefall time. Now, what we need are really good parachute simulators that help people learn to land and avoid canopy collisions. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

More than once. Hard landings. You learn to land on your feet, eventually. The first one was my AFF 1 jump - the next week I was on a 30-hour flight to Singapore They tend to hurt for 6-8 months, and you'll always get little twinges when you sit at the wrong angle. I highly recommend giving a few months for healing, then regular, weekly massage therapy. That area is not vascular, and healing is going to be slow unless you force fluid movement around the area. This graphic is very telling. Over 2 full percentage points in one year. For me personally, this means my HELOC has increased $100 per month in interest since January. What's the story? Is the economy better now that it was pre-dot-crash? I know financially I'm not better off than I was 4.5 years ago. Or is the US government needing more cash to support its hobbies? I'm sure I can get the Village people. Oh, wait. Glen Hughes died of lung cancer about four years ago. I guess we'll have to call the whole thing off. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Oh yeah - he played a Golden Knight, I think The wind tunnel instructor (Fort Bragg?) - I think they based that character on SkyMonkeyOne Edit - and let's not forget Denise Richards. She was a Bond girl, even Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Dolphins - I had some great dives in the keys. I think Florida is probably he best place to go for a chance to dive with wild dolphins. It's cool because they just show up sometimes. I've been in New Zealand on a dolphin snorkel trip, but they never showed up Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I got a little past rudolph just over 350 feet. There's a chasm on the other side - maybe someone can get Santa to fall in the chasm after that nice long throw and several bounces. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Water temp was 76-82 - thermoclines were drastic - similar to Cozumel. Current was light to medium. The interesting thing was that the coral was spawning, so vis was only about 20 meters on a good day. It only happens twice a year, and we got it. As far as Mantas, I think you have to get to out-of-the-way places to see them. They're pretty shy if surrounded by divers all the time, and they need somewhat pristine conditions for good feeding grounds. After that, it's all about luck - sometimes you get them, sometimes not. On this week, we had two good days of manta diving. These were about 8-12 feet (there were at least 3 to 4 of them that I could see) and somewhat interested in divers - I think the lower vis helped bring them in closer. As we were on safety stop, they were doing backloops right underneath us. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Mistreatment of skydivers by EMTs
riddler replied to KillerKimmy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The few times I've seen EMT treatment of jumpers, they were professional and courteous. But your references are for a bystander and a nurse, not EMTs. Everyone who's been in the hospital a few times has had at least one bad nurse. And bystanders - well, they're bystanders, so who cares? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
My Lotus tends to wash out to pink in photos, so I won't post any. It looks much cooler in real life. If anyone wants to see it, I'll be at the Holiday Boogie. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

This can't really be the ultimate accusation, considering how often we get it Men are typically jealous of other men. Women are jealous of anything that is not them. This may include most or all of the following (and more): Your jumping Your gear Your computer Your iPod Your car Your stereo Your game console of choice Your friends Your job Your favorite new toy Your pets ... Man, I could list things for hours I've personally heard the accusation about all of the above at one time or another. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
