  1. Anyone know how to get my name DE-listed from this site? http://email.skydivewww.com/ Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  2. So it's a 400-level class, but what are the prerequisites? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  3. Loyalty to a DZ. It's an interesting subject. I'm always amazed how DZOs want to pay instructors as 1099 contractors, and treat them as 1099 contractors, but don't expect them to contract for anyone else. That's kinda the point of contracting. You don't have a permanent job, so you take work wherever, whenever and however you can get it. Even if it's the competition. If DZOs don't like that, then they should pay instructors as employees. 4. Well, I still get the calls, so I emailed the DAV national office a few days ago. This is a response I got earlier today: So, if you have this problem, what I would recommend is call all the local DAV thrift stores in your area, and ask to be removed from their automated calling lists. We'll see if the local thrift store actually does it for me. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  5. K guys - everyone call your broker and start short-selling Apple stock. In two days, start buying. This will likely cause a 5-point drop, followed by another press release stating that iPods don't cause any ear damage, after which Apple will rebound +7. And you thought these news stories were just news stories; no one can possibly be making money by manipulating the media Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  9. There's a vegetable-based leather product that needs to be dyed, and doesn't have quite the durability of cow leather. Let me see if I can find an example or two. Edit - product called Clarino that I believe is made out of processed cotton. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  11. I ... HATE ... alarm clocks! Half of the reason I work from home is so I don't have to wake up to them. The only time I get up early is if I have a flight. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  12. Yeah sorry about that - this was a last-minute thing because I wanted a chance to fly with Kirk while he was here. Looks like off-peak starts at 1:30 PM, and it's a little cheaper. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  13. Sewer diver - people that dive in sewers looking for cracks. I knew a guy that did this and he wore full bio-hazard protective suit. But still ... Bare-handed line repairman. They repair high-voltage electrical wires while voltage is still in them. It pays good, but your life expectancy isn't that great. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  14. I finally got to fly in the tunnel earlier today for ten minutes with Kirk. I've only flown in the Vegas and Orlando tunnels, but I like this one the best of the three. Pros: 1. Powerful! They can really crank this one up. I didn't have a weight belt today, and I was arching hard! 2. Quiet - I flew without earplugs, and I think it was as quiet as flying in Orlando with earplugs. 3. Smooth - I got to some different spots near the door, and I didn't feel any dead areas. I wasn't trying that hard, though 4. Just want to say this one more time - the facility is really nice! The building is nice and the inside has a great layout. Great job, to whoever the architect was. Cons: 1. I don't know if it was designed this way (for safety?) or not, but air pressure seems to decrease slightly at height. I found it a little harder to stay at height in this tunnel than in Orlando, and I'm pretty light to begin with. I don't think it was the controller, because I could hear the fan speed change when he increased or decreased, and I felt the pressure gradient before I heard any change of fans. It's not a big deal to me, because I don't spend a lot of time up high, and it's probably safer for the whuffos if it's true. I'd like to hear anyone else's thoughts - am I imagining it? It's a small decrease that I felt, and I only got 10 minutes to play, so it could very well be my imagination. 2. Seems like there needs to be a finer tuning mechanism for the controller fans. I felt like there were only two speeds - high and low - even though I know I was only getting a small fraction of what the fans could give. It's probably harder to fine tune because of the huge power range. I'm sure they'll find ways to tweak speed a bit better - it's still pretty new. Overall, a great tunnel. As hooknswoop always says, "Hot Tip": book time in a group, because the more time you buy, the less it costs. I went solo today, and my 10 minutes of off-peak ran $16.50/minute. If you can get enough people for an hour, the cost goes down to about $11/minute. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  15. Hey all, just spoke with flyangel2, and the dates have changed. Kirk is here now! He will be in town until Wednesday, March 8th, and coaching is still free, so book your time. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I don't think iPods suck - but iTunes definitely sucks! If you use only Windows, and aren't opposed to giving your money to a Singapore company, instead of an American one, check out the Creative Labs Zen Vision. I have an iPod mini and I like it a lot, but wish I had more room - if I were to buy another, I would get the 60 gig iPod with video capability. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  19. Allright, guys - I think you crashed the site As a fan of smaller, err, fun-bags, I'm not sure the model for A-size is all that accurate. A-cups can't possibly move around that much. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
  20. Well, here it is six weeks later. I've got a refund for the second charge, but not yet for the third. I called again today, and there is a new person working in refunds who seems more interested in solving the problem. With any luck, I'll get money back before the end of the year. 23. Never tip on take out orders - no one is serving you. The exception was a couple weeks ago, when the guy held the take-out open five extra minutes so I could get some late-night food. I gave him a $5 tip. He kept my credit card. Next day there was $3300 in charges on the card. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

  25. Have a blender? The night before your workout, take a handful of organic, raw almonds and soak them overnight in distilled water. Immediately after your workout, stick 'em in the blender with a bunch of water, add a banana, some dates, a bit of honey (I use raw agave), some dates and blend until you have a fresh protein drink that you should drink straight away (within 15 minutes of your workout). You can add a bit of olive oil and dash of salt (I use sea salt) if you want. Tastes much better than the powdered, processed chalk you buy at the store, and gives you all the protein you need. Plus, some carbohydrates from bananas and dates and agave help with protein absorption. Don't listen to the advertisements for protein shakes - you really don't need that much protein, you just need a little more than you normally eat. It's marketed and hyped, but your body doesn't need as much as they tell you. Most americans get enough in their diet, even if they are doing moderate strength training. Read this. If you are endurance training, you need quite a bit more, but for strength training, not as much. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
