You're right - I'll go out now and send Maynard the dime he would've made from me. But I own all the past CDs, so he's already made a mint from me (about 40 cents). Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Tool is, IMO, the best rock band of the last 10 years, maybe more. They're playing tomorrow night about one mile from me, and I'm not going. Big-name concerts just aren't worth the hassle, starting with the body-cavity searches, and ending with the traffic jam. There's plenty of good local music without the degradation of civilization. I'll probably download the album on the 'net, just to spite the RIAA. At some point, I'll want better sound quality and buy a second-hand CD, again, just to spite the RIAA. I hate being so cynical of things, but when it comes to name-brand music, damn it's easy Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Well, after being spammed, then promised that the "owners" of the subdomain would be contacted, and that the URL would be fixed, my further requests and PMs have been ignored. No matter, the URL is easy enough to hack. Gee... I wonder if obesity is becoming a problem.

I'm hoping everyone gets bigger so they have to make the seats larger on airlines. I stay the same skinny weight, and suddenly coach feels like first class. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
Just be glad that you don't have a huge one. Mine is 17", and there's a BIG difference in the cost to fix it. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Thanks all for the replies! I took out the battery and replaced it, and the problem seemed fixed. Then for good measure, I updated the firmware to 2.6.1a - FYI, the existing version on my device was 2.1.2. I've updated the firmware a few times already, so this wasn't too hard to do again. Anyone else think the rubber seal around the battery cover is a pain? Mine popped out not long after I got it, and the hardest thing about taking the cover off and on is getting that seal to set right. Would appreciate any tips for keeping it in the groove when putting the cover back on. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I spent last week in Eloy and made some jumps. I drove back Saturday and Sunday, and now I'm at home reviewing my logbook. I notice that my Neptune seems to be activated. It says "Very Slow Climb" (the same thing it says when I'm on a Casa ). It won't really turn off. Alt: 1200. Climb: varies between -136 and +100 ft/min. I've noticed in the past that the batteries have drained very quickly on this altimeter - every few months, and I might do only 30-50 jumps in that time. I'm wondering if it's related. Any ideas what to do? I'm thinking I should pull out the battery and reinsert it. Is there a manual reset for the Neptune? I don't see anything about it in the owner's manual. I upgraded the firmware last year, but I may need to check for newer updates. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

They briefly mentioned this on the radio - said he performed on one of the evening talk shows with David Crosby and Graham Nash?? Did I hear that right? Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Depends on the laws in your state. Colorado for years had "no-fault" state laws, so insurance here was cheap (you weren't allowed to sue others in accidents). They've recently changed that, but I don't know how it's affected bike insurance, since I don't have one anymore. $3900/year sounds absolutely crazy! How much damage do they think a bike is going to do to an SUV anyway? Progressive usually had good bike rates, too - that was my insurer with my Beemer. But they've screwed me over a few times on motorhome insurance, so it sounds like that company has gone down hill. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Funny, I'm here in Eloy and I was just thinking of Holly today. Also Jeff Sands and Don Yahrling. Sitting here with a sign-off card with a lot of Don's signatures on it. High: great weather for jumping in Eloy today

Too "taxed" to go to the DZ today. Plus it's pretty windy, and I really doubt they're jumping. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Yeah, like I said - I'll never go I think the one that beats you up is Space Mountain - it's not nearly as bad as some roller coasters (the wooden ones). Mission space is pretty smooth, but you are subjected to G-forces. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

I've found that my mood swings (they weren't that big to begin with) were toned down quite a bit with a better diet. Past that, it's meditation. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

Michel Fournier High Altitude Record Attempt (again)?

I'm not an expert in media practices, but I've heard that sometimes reporters have "rack" stories that they keep on file until they have nothing else to publish. For instance, if they go on vacation, they'll pull an older story off the rack, and it may get published without ever checking for currency. My guess is that if this report were really recent, they would have mentioned the financial trouble (IIRC, one investor took off with a lot of the money, or something like that), in the short history at the end of the report. So I would guess that this story, although published recently, wasn't validated before they published. Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD -
Good job! I remember being pretty exhilarated after finishing AFF, too

Who here has been on this ride? Personally, I thought it was the best ride at Epcot. Gravitational and I took a few friends on it last year, and everyone had a good time. There have been two deaths this year related to the ride. The first, a 4-year old, who had an enlarged heart, which may have been aggravated by the stress of the ride, and today, a 49 year-old woman. Man, I really hope they keep this ride open. I used to work as an engineer in the space program, and would love the chance to go into space, but realize it will probably never happen. I know a lot of people would like too as well, and this ride is probably the closest thing that any of us will experience. I see that sometimes with students. Most often caused by over-exertion when equalizing, but if not, an eyes/ears/throat specialist can help - sometimes there are physical impairments to equalization that can be relieved with something as simple as antibiotics. I've done a few rotations of 30 minutes, shared with one other jumper. They are tough. I'm in a mantis the entire 15 minutes - I wouldn't want to try sit-flying the whole time. I think you have to work your way up to these. I had already done a few camps with 2 hours of flying over a 2-3 day period, so I think that helped get the right muscles in shape for this. But you're right - don't try doing that unless you have quite a bit of time already practicing in the tunnel. I'm sure the rats can do 30 minutes straight. They have a lot of practice.
