Wait'll you see the pictures this creates....

Standard lens choices or is it fitted for lipstick camera size threaded attachment? Thought that might be cool for hand cam. Imagine after opening removing the remote lens and sticking it on your foot for some other angles. -
Yes you can use hypeye. Im using one for hand cam (as is all our staff) and no shake issue. Not sure about freefly axis though. One annoying issue we have with the cx 12 is that it reverts back to default settings overnight. In other words you have to re set your manual focus and scene selection every day. Not sure why and haven't had the time to figure out why yet. Any help here from skydive tech support? Also had an indicator light become inactive in the door during a cold climbout. TM pushed hypeye again with no success. No external viewfinder to verify recording. Light became active again while under canopy. He lost the freefall. Not sure yet if it is camera or short in hypeye. DSE, do you use the bundled capture software PMB to import into Vegas?

I like this too...except I stick my legs down for the back layout exit. The describe technique get the cleanest pre exit footage as well. I like the shot when I grab the strut and point the camera back at the student. You can see the tail, horizon, ground and students pre exit facials. As soon as the wind hits your legs facing the tail you rotate backward head down...totally clean relative wind angle for the drogue no matter what the student is doing. Best hand cam angle as you dont use your arms for stability so you can film. Can be tough to get used to if youve been taught to dive out RW style which to me is a terrible tandem exit. I can control myself in a backfly position better than I can the wind hitting a fetal tandem student in a dive out. Got to go slow then snap the back loop if you feel them de-arch. Dont amp though. If jumping second I face the rear behing the pilot, then move over, back up and take the position described by Rob. Not the roomiest slot for a big TM though. Im 5-10 150.

question about making a living
skydiveoc replied to ailithir's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Its weird how CA seems to pay less while cost of living can be the highest. I was a TM there full time getting 25 a jump, moved to Florida and was paid $30 with no state income tax and way cheap cost o living. If you want money, find a hand cam DZ. But dont complain about doing 15-20 jumps a day. Factory divers only. The only way to make $3000 to $4000 weekly. -
HANDYCAM/OUTSIDE CAMERA WHAT HD TO USE
skydiveoc replied to Perriscicaba's topic in Photography and Video
We're all happy with our new CX 12's. We shoot on hd sd, one notch down from highest quality. Flies better than my pc1000. -
Ive got both cameras and what he says is very accurate. You can crop the vignette marks with elements for a decent 4x6 with the 12.
-
37mm .2 royal seems to be widest. Use a step down ring to 30mm for your camera. Use of the step down ring seems to make it a little wider. Ive just switched to cx 12's. Good quality frame grabs.
-
All of our guys just went with CX12's with Simons glove. Pretty sweet set up and we're for the most part happy. A few growing pains but VERY happy with image quality. Also getting the swing with Vegas not. Almost just as fast as the board. I would recommend the camera for hand cam. Flies way better than PC style. Kind of like flying with a red bull can lying sideways. So clint, do you like the Pponk 520 over the skyways 550? I think Im going to go with the 550 carbed due to the ease of transferring the engine to another airframe insead of re pluming another widebody.

Royal .2. I mean its a nice lens...just not an HD lens. Its the widest for handcams but soft at edges.
-
Actually printed out a decent 8x10 frame grab from highest quality HD mode. Of course edges were soft from crappy .2 lens but still...the best frame grab out there. For someone with a nice framed blowup on their wall...obviously forget it. But for decent Facebook and Myspace pics...they look pretty good. And I find thats what 70% of what people want now anyway. And for a $15 dollar handcam add on, Im happy to make the $85 per jump.

bingo...not actively running it as my sysstem is not online, but i am getting the anti virus update window upon startup. i shall promptly remove. thanks

rendering time w vegas 8.0 was about 2 minutes with new machine...now over 5. what am i doing wrong? raw footage on program hard drive clogging up memory? I have 2 gigs of ram, 80 gig hard drive with 160 external.

I have found that a chopped off slieve from an old wet suit fits perfectly. Particularly with a Raynox lens. You will need to tidy up the ends but it's easy to do yourself or ask your rigger nicely.. Might also try thos cheap beer cuzi's you see at tourist shops. Cheap neoprene but it seems to fit cx style cam tightly. Also, fellow staff member used the javelin beer cuzi with the velcro already built in to wrap it.

Let me know what you come across...Im getting to like Vegas and have editing time down to 5 minutes...rendering and dvd burning takes about 5 more. My growing pains are waning...thumbnail images are found in the pmb software bundled with platinum but I trouble navigating the thumbnails thru windows.
-
Do you edit in HDV? Do you find capturing longer while shootinbg in HD? I just bought a CX12 but have a Royal .2 non HD lens. Im just shooting SD thinking Im losing HD with the lens so I might as well just shoot in SD HQ.

Any other DZ's want copies of all tandem vids?
skydiveoc replied to sbhesq's topic in Photography and Video
Not personal experience, but a friend said there is only one manufacturer left making hard drive dvd recorders. Go non linear..I just did and although Ive had some learning pains I feel its worth it especially considering tape based is on the way out. Ive gone exclusively with cx12's and memstick recording. Also easier to train people to edit. -
Simon Wade just made me a CX12 glove and the construction is very solid. Ive had cookie and waycool before and quality of simons is right on w waycool. CX 12 tweeking needs to be done as that damn focus ring has burned be once w focus. I'd recommend a hole for it to protrude through. I think I was the first w cx12 for him. Cam flies very stable...much better that vertical PC1000. Ive bridged to nonlinear so cx12 is working better for me than capturing. My hypeye jack takes up some room too so that needs to be tweeked. Cool that you can double click and go to still mode under canopy and snap some nice 5mp images with the hypeye. My new setup gave me some growing pains Id be happy to share w you but Im happy now.

Stretching and strength mobilityt will lead to better sex everynight too! Even if its with yourself like me. Google Steve Maxwell...my idol. Jiu Jitsu blackbelt at age 55, kicks ass ,and has awesome strength mobility regiments for aging atheletes. Things like overhead walking presses and lunges with PVC pipes filled with water. Awesome core stability workouts.

Im not sure if Imall that into my new cx12. It had a glitch where it was reverting back to auto focus / auto scene setting randomly after 5-10 minutes. I have reset the camera and completely taped over the focus wheel. I even taped a washer over the wheel as there is a button which reverts the cam to auto focus when pressed. That wheel will burn you! I would love to lock that wheek. Captured clips take about 1/2 the time to download as minidv and they load with no thumbnail image. Minidv for some reason loads with a thumbnail. This sucked as I downloaded about 15 of my vids of the day and had to manually preview each one. I'm new and inexperienced with working with vid editing so Im sure its some setting somewhere is off. Im not recording in HD. Just SD HQ. Seems like a waste of time when the image is going through a .2 royal anyway. Any opinions would be great. So far I like my pc1000 better...might be growing pains tho.

For tandem vids, I recommend shooting in SD HQ, 16:9. That creates MPEG2 files that are handled very fast by Vegas (fast to edit and fast to render). And there are a whole lot of widescreen monitors out there now, so 4:3 seems outdated I shoot some segments in HD: for example if a TV crew is there & wanting a copy, or if it's a fun jump that I want to save in my archives. Please try some high speed sit-flying with this camera and post some footage if you could. The BIG drawback to your camera's predecessor was that sit-flying caused shaking in the image. It'd be nice to know if that problem is still present or not :) Im hand camming the cx12 for tandems and probably wont have it set up for a helmet mount. Im noticing capture from the mem stck is taking almost as long as a tape capture? Whats wrong here? Also noticing that after an hour or so after being on, my new computer isnt recognizing the memstick drive. I have to restart to get it to recognize the drive. what up here? Was proud to leave the board behind in my tainted past...now im not so sure! I think I need to fly out for a full day lesson with DSE. One step beyong clueless...

1st two vids today...pretty sweet. Nice and wide, and very light .2 royal still soft on edges. shooting in sd for now and editing in Vegas Plat. 8.0. No size issues...flies better than a vertical pc1000. Drawbacks so far...no eyepiece monitor to verify recording. Hypeye in the mail tho. Still not sure if I should be shooting in HD, 16:9 or 4:3 or dubbing w 5-1 surround. Any thoughts?
-
do most nle guys save the edited version of the video of the editing software or of the dvd authoring? any advantages to either way? Also, anyway for my cx12 clips to automatically appear in vegas plat. instead of importing from memstick bay? thanks

1st dub took over an hour...now 4 days later 10 minutes. 5 minutes not unreasonable when my mem stick cams come in and I get still more profecient. Nothing special in my edits...just cross dissolves and slomo and simple titles. Im very happy so far. Finally able to rid my desk of cd player, mixer, tv, dvd burner, cameras for a mouse keypad and monitor!
