most efficient non linear tandem edit?
skydiveoc replied to skydiveoc's topic in Photography and Video
Can you do all that with titles, slow mo on exit and opening, layer live audio with music, cross fade to slow mo or between scenes and other stuff in the time you mentioned? -
most efficient non linear tandem edit?
skydiveoc replied to skydiveoc's topic in Photography and Video
QuoteIf you're very new to editing, go with iMovie. It's the easiest app to get used to and it's incredibly easy to learn. Just sit in on a class for it at your local Apple store... the classes are free. After that, move up to Final Cut Express ($299) and eventually to Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Studio ($999 or $1,299, respectively). Check them all out: http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/ http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/ http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/ iMovie WILL be the easiest and fastest to use. Edit quickly, throwing in a few titles and transitions... cutting out the boring crap and dropping in some music... cool. Press the "Send to iDVD" button and it'll automatically dump your project into iDVD and compress it in the background. You can customize the menu system to your liking [you can even make a custom theme for your dropzone... so everybody gets the same menu!] and burn in no time flat. It's really difficult to envision just how easy using the iLife apps is until you sit down and use them.[ OK...I can edit in 12 minutes and finalize with a recorder in 7 more. I have heard that I DVD burns have compatability issues with -R, a more acceptable format? My problem is that Ive been editing linear with a ave 7 for 10 years and I like the ability to crossfade between source 2 and freeze to the beat on the fly. Ive tried I movie to do this and I find myself tinkering around so much with audio and video fade effects that it is taking me 45 minutes to do anything professional. Any other opinions? josh -

I agree in keeping everything as low as possible and VERY tight leg straps. Still sucks though. I have heard of some students going to the ER because of this. josh

clint...you'll really buy an A2 over a sigma, especially when they're coming out with a 340? Are they really that nice? josh dolan

MX Pro DV...worth the upgrade over an AVE 7?
skydiveoc replied to skydiveoc's topic in Photography and Video
I can find them for around $1000 used. Is the DV difference really noticable? josh -
saw some at circuit city. anyone using them?

You guys should consider handicam. It is perfect for the scenic resort style 182 DZ where staffing is sometimes an issue, and adds to the pay scale for the TM. I can be of assistance if necessary. I have covered for Christian there and the under canopy visuals with handy would be awesome and easy to sell. josh oc skydiving

What are other pc 1000 users setting it at with a diamond lens?
-
Thanks for the replies guys, tis the magnetic iris since i have quite a bit of experience with the camera and know how to set the focus etc, but it is only a symptom with a pc 109 and 1000. I also edit for the dz so I see lots of camera images in front of me.
-
PC 109 did it...PC 1000 doing it too. On opening, usually harder ones, focus goes way out then back in. Any clues?

17 tandems from a 182 to 12 grand on each one. With hand cam was over a thousand dollar day. Finished up at around 8:00 with 45 minutes of light left! Did 15 starting at 10 am.

Anybody ever fly a freefly suit with a camera wing?
skydiveoc replied to BlindBrick's topic in Photography and Video
Experienced skysurf camera flyers sometimes use this suit. Craig Obrien, Clif Burch...The are able to fall as fast as they need then slow down quickly during transitions. It will take practice and you will likely not like it at first but dont give up! -
Anyone using one? Rob can you make a glove? josh
-
The guys that dont understand the hand cam dont see the cash TM's are now making is now respectable. I mean, I do handy's and I make $1500 - $2500 per week. And thats only doing 15-30 tandems per week. Compared when I was making maybe $800 being a AFF, TM, Vid full time staff member using my own equipment( except for tandems.) With the PC 330, 350 and 1000, stills are now a reality and will only get better. I use this camera with a century optics lens and my 4x 6's come out pretty sweet. Every vid that doesnt sell I spec stills and sell almost 75% for $25. It is only a matter of time before there is a PC camcorder with a 6 MP still grab from video and there is your video and stills. As far as getting some work for the guy in Ohio, try and market the single tandem student for the combined view. Couples almost always want to go together and will settle for the handcam. josh

You guys should try a backloop exit. Rob, I have no probs with back to wind position in 182 and Hawaii OZ man you must be in a turbine so position is not an issue. Backloop is sweet with hand cam because legs do all the work. I just plop out in a sit with back to wind and arch back after a second or so with straight legs. You will always rotate with a drogue friendly orientation. You will especially rotate nicely drogue high when they de-arch. With hand cam, just put your hand out front and follow where they look. I find my right hand goes back to a back track position with this exit and ready to fire the drogue. You cannot hesitate though. Once you see the window come around you must fire, especially with the skinny fetal chicks. ANd of course I like the facial shot. With this exit, again legs and body bring you oriented, not the arms. Try it hand cammers!

Im still not convinced. I see other staff members coming in straight, full flight when its bumpy and they catch downdrafts and uplifts and usually hammer. I find the turn punches through the turbulence, induces more lift producing speed. I get more stand ups and less thumps. My concern is when I come around the corner. Will a strong downdraft imore likely nduce a collapse when it hits the top skin of the canopy from the turn?

Do you make a vertical glove? I sit next to the door in a 182 and thought the vertical might make it harder to open the door. What are your thoughts? I might like to order a vertical glove for a PC 1000. josh

hand cam...mostly due to the fact that we are a 182 DZ and most want to be in t he plane with their friends instead of solo. We push outside vid with solo tandems. We also have a ground camera person filming landings as a nice way to tie up the production and give DVD standard format. josh

We charge $79 for hand cam, $99 for outside and $129 for combined view.
