Take the advise from these people they are not trying to discourge you from advancing but they are telling you to move much slower than you are. Take it from me work your way to those canopies don't just jump right into the elliptical high proformance. I took a bad spill on a stilletto 150 at 1.4. I miss judged once and i hit the ground at 60 plus. the canopy beat me to the ground. I broke my sacrum in half causing my spin to seperate. I broke my left ankle and the tibula on the left leg. I also cracked my right heal bit my tounge in half and busted my head open. I know have two screws holding my pelvis and spin together and 9 screws and a bar holding my left leg together. The doctor said if i was not wearing the helmet that blow off my head on inpact I would be dead. I was out for a full year all because of a small miss judgement and paid a 200,000 dollar hosptial bill. I know that you raced and you may know some about speed but it only takes a fraction of a second to miss judge the alti. that your at. You only have 60 jumps take your time you will achive the goal your after but we as a community need to stick together and thats all these people are tring to due is keep you from dying. I still jump today and i still jump that same canopy 400 jumps later. After an accident like i had you take this very serious and you find out first hand what this sport can take. I lost everything girlfriend, money, and my ability to walk for a good year.. I got everything back except the girlfriend she told me I was not worth the pain and my mother about lost it. SO take it from the more experianced, slow down. And I have no clue who your instructor is put he needs to wake up.

What is the best brand of DVD-R or DVD+RW
aerialcameraman replied to clint's topic in Photography and Video
I have used about as many different ones they provide to see what turns out the best. I think its a matter of opinoin but I seem to like TDK brand or spend more and get the sony. But if you mass produce DVD at your dz then sony may not be the way to go due to cost. -
Your alti is a second to your eyes and knowing how to judge height and when to start you carve or hook. Maybe a quick glance but I would recomend what everybody else always tells you start with practice way up high and then when you get more effecient then work down thats how i learned. I may glance at my alti but thats it,i judge distance fro buildings and other landmarks. Stay safe and ask for advise from your local DZ or take a course.

My personal opinion is if you go digital go with the new canon rebel. Its light and has a great capture speed, and the quality of the picture is great. Best to use a fisheye lens or a extreme wide angle. It just looks better. What you shooting with it?

Who is offering DVD to the students?
aerialcameraman replied to dsbbreck's topic in Photography and Video
I use sonic vegas 4.0 and have to transfer the completed file after rendering it to MYDVD to record.I use the dvd burner on my computer that is set up for nothing but video editing. I only tell them it may take a little longer because we like to give the complete project the same day they are there. And it normaly works out fine except for the extreme busy days and the lows staff numbers that day. -
Who is offering DVD to the students?
aerialcameraman replied to dsbbreck's topic in Photography and Video
I offer DVD for the tandems or AFF i shoot but i also charge 10.00 dollars more for the dvd then if they just get the vhs which comes with the package if they buy the video. I was supprised to learn that they will pay the extra 10.00 for the DVD. This covers the cost of the DVD+R that are expensive. I also let them know that it will take a few more minutes to due then the VHS. -

aerialcameraman replied to slug's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I broke my sacrum in a U-shape seperateing my spinal cord from my pelivis. shatered my left tib and cracked my left foot. Got a head injury, bit my tounge half off, and got at cut on my forehead. Was life lined from one hospital to the next. Total bill as of january 1st. $200,000 and thats not a lie. I'm paying 600.00 of that plus extra vists to doctors and medication. Also loss of insureance due to injury. But I still jump today plus loss of what was to be my wife. Blue skies -

IF i'm not jumping I'm packing for other and have learned the whole roll the nose thing is for the birds. You pack the way you want to but I never have rolled a nose on a canopy and people ask for me to pack and complament me on the opennings. Even a sabre. I just push the nose in, pull the slider all the way to the front, fold the stablizeris and the roll the tail tight. NO problem i have even jumped a sabre with the nose not rolled and it openned sweat.

Keep jumping with other is the best why to get started. Go out and work with a person you know and fly close or even follow some tandems out. You need to make more jumps and keep working the skills. A lot of dropzones require a number of jumps before allowing you to jump camera for tandems and aff. If thats what your going for. Plus its a regulation for vector you have to have 500 to jump and video a tandem. I only have 300 but i started under a very good photographer and worked my way up the hard way. Take it from me I make a living off of videos take you time and study all aspects of this before jumping in to it. You may be a natural but you can always learn from other, i found that out.

Head positioning on deployment
aerialcameraman replied to AlvaroCarvalho's topic in Photography and Video
Keep the head straight and level but do not tighten up your neck muscles or you will pull them or even tear. A wise photographer once told me, "If you have to look up to see what your canopy is doing then you shouldn't be jumping a camera yet." You shouldn't have to look up during openning, you should be familiar enough with you setup and canopy to know what is above. Only when the canopy is onpen should you have to look up. Granted you look up to check as soon as you are upright. -
I lean more on teh tongue switch or bite due to you can open your mouth enough and the air will shoot all your pictures. it has happened to me so i switched to the bite.

They both are by far the most comfrotable helment i have ever had a camera on. The main differance is do you want to fly two cameras or one on top. For tandem flying one camera is enough, but if shooting 4-way at a national level then two cameras would be sufficent. Each one has one of the best escapes on them too. No other helment has this escape feature that i believe is a nessecity for camera flying. Main point due some research first from the internet and talking with people whom have done it for a while but only take advise make your own mind up.

I due 270's and use my rear risers on my stilleto and it swoops just as far as some of the others out there. Remember that the first canopy to start winning meets and first elliptical was the stilletp.[
