  3. without weight restrictions - 678' jaymo @ mile-hi (do a search for "carnage" on skydivingmovies.com to see video) with weight restrictions - 494' jaymo @mile-hi (this was "unofficial" due to not enough judges or something like that) At sea level all i know is Isaiah McCauliffe did some where around 460' at the world cup, with weight restrictions. 6. if you have to have water then i'd say mile-hi during the summer, otherwise i would say where ever the cheapest jump tickets would be, and lodi is hard to beat at that. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  7. check out the SPIRE's manual, there's a lot of good info about the SPIRE in there. the SPIRE is based on the velocity and is a very fast and advanced GL wing so IF you're jump numbers are correct i probably wouldn't advise going to the SPIRE just yet, just putting that out there Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  8. It's basically asking the USPA to have a definitive time lapse between a selection event (ie US Nationals) and the world event. right now if there is a US nationals right before the world event then that is a selection event. this means there are possibilities that competitors who qualify will not be able to go because they can't get organized in time. this is what happened to a few people this past year, even those on the US team that went to the world cup had to put in an extension request so they wouldn't be charged a late fee on registration because US nationals was only 6 weeks before the world cup. there are many more reasons to do this, all of which are listed in a written article that will be presented to the USPA at the BOD meeting this Feb. 8-9. i don't know what this years US Nationals will mean, but we all should know in about a week i'm guessing. 12. there's more to a canopy then just the canopy...there is also the company behind the canopy. and there are definitely some shady companies out there. PD's customer service is bar none the best out there, you won't have to wait a month to find out the cost of a reline, or wait another 3 months to actually get it relined, if you want to talk canopies with them all you have to do is call up (even about non-PD canopies), you'll almost always talk to a person not have to leave multiple messages, i could go on but i think you get my point. you're right in saying that the canopies out there today are very similar, so what's the difference? I also had a mentor that knows more than most and he helped me along quite a bit. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  18. I had the unfortunate opportunity to be on Marianne Kramers last jump where she had a mal with her main AND her reserve, and watching her struggle with a 117 at 1.7 wingloading reserve really drove home the point of a bigger reserve for me. i firmly believe that if she had been under a bigger reserve in the WORST possible circumstance things might have been different in the end. That being said my mindset is that i can't have a big enough reserve. right now i carry an Optimum 143 and velocities ranging from 84-96. i'm completely aware of a 2-out situation but i have accepted those risks to lessen the other risks associated with a smaller reserve. 21. Greatness is going to the edge, looking over into the impossible, then building a bridge to go further. -me “We will not stop. We will not slow down. We will not surrender. We will win. 24. Are these canopies new? could they be out of trim, either brake lines and/or suspension lines, giving you a "false" feel for the canopy? also, i might be reading this wrong but are you saying that on the 135 and the 105 you can do 90 degree front riser dives on landing but not on the 120? that would seem weird to me. also, the manufacture date could have an impact, an older canopy might not have the "updates" as newer ones. of course in the end, you might just like how the 105 flies. i can tell you that i absolutely love how the velocity 96 feels compared to my 90 or 84, but that's just what i like. make sure the canopies are in trim and also get some formal coaching from a reputable coach Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
