  1. I can tell you that JayMo chose the 96 over the 79, Marat took his 96 over his 90, Scott Roberts took his 90 over his 84, i took my 90 over my 84. The bigger wings did better (in distance) at this altitude then the smaller ones. as always with a higher wingloading and/ or smaller wing the pilot will have to be on his/her game to get the same, or better, performance than a larger wing/ lighter wingloading. as far as "optimal wingloadings" that's more up to the pilot than the wing. hope that helps edited to add: at a location other than 5000' MSL you'll probably see a different approach to what canopies are chosen Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  2. why should a swooper have to try and predict which way the "SP" flier will stop their s-turns on landing because their instructor never taught them the correct way to land? why should a swooper have to try and predict if a "SP" flier will be in the HP landing area? 3. cool, so we're addressing the minority side of collisions. well hey, when things don't change and the SP collisions still occur at the same level and you ask yourselves "how'd this happen again" maybe we'll start looking at the real issue...REQUIRING "advanced" canopy courses with QUALITY instructors as part of their B license. honestly, this whole dz.com squable is bullshit. none of us are going to change anything typing this crap while the uneducated are at the dz engraining bad/dangerous habits. go to your dz this weekend and help one person at a time or your own dz, cause that's where you'll actually make a difference. 15. Here is a review that Paul R gave a while back about the JVX. I personally would consider Paul one of the best under the JVX, if not the best: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2315192;search_string=jvx%20review;#2315192 i spent last year under an 87 at 2.4+ and overall, the JVX is a decent canopy. it has it's strengths, but also definitely it's weakness's. before the JVX i had put about 1000 jumps on a vx 84 and even though the 2 canopies were designed by the same person (jyro) i found it extremely difficult to become accustom to the jvx. some might say it's because the jvx is so "advanced" or what ever, but what it boiled down to is that it's just a difficult canopy to fly well in my opinion. to me i had to be nearly perfect to have what i considered a decent swoop, but again that's just my opinion. as far as the "mushiness" at the end of the swoop, i do feel the jvx lacks the bottom end lift compared to canopies that have stabilizers such as the velocity. but that's not to say that i'm wrong and i was just flying the canopy poorly (which i wasn't god damn it ) hope this helps...stu p.s. by the way, i started my turns with the jvx in full-flight because that's what felt gave me the most power. i don't think starting in full-flight with all types of canopies is the way to go however. 17. The PD Velocity has to be THE smoothest flying canopy i've ever experienced. I have had the opportunitiy jump a 96, 90, and 84 at various loadings from 2.1-2.5 and it's an experience that can barely be described. Also, coming from an Icarus (xfire, VX, JVX) background I found the transition to be fairly easy, though flying styles of the two different brands are definitely noticable. The Velocity is just a more pilotable canopy allowing you greater range from slow speed flight to high speed flight no matter what inputs one uses. And the openings, the openings are butter. smooth, relatively on heading, and predictable. my favorite thing to do with my Velocity, no matter what size, is to rip across a pond and lay the wing over in a nice super smooth carve that feels like you're a fighter pilot. the sensation simply put is fantastic. lastly, the customer support of PD is by far the best in the industry. the products of the various companies out there might be similar in performance or price, but the support behind the product is not. PD has the backing to help you get through any maintenance issues or any other concern their customers have. That right there should be reason enough to go with PD and the Velocity, because why get hassled around for 6 months for the "latest and greatest" when you can go with a company that will back you no matter what the situation. Go with PD!
  18. unfortunetly i have the same problem and there's not too much anyone can do when someone doesn't want to listen and already "knows" everything. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  20. sorry, i didn't mean for it to come off like i was talking to just you in this part of my post, it was meant for everyone. Awesome! that is more of what we need, thank you. 21. Interesting, most of the people i have to sit down and talk with aren't swoopers at all. Usually i'm talking to jumpers that fly a "standard" pattern that just cut off half the load because they decided to do s-turns on final, or came in the opposite direction then everyone else, or they spiraled down to 800' then sat in brakes taking up the whole flight pattern. but hey if you need me to talk to that swooper that just spent the last 1500' nearly stalling their parachute as to at least try and fit into the pattern, who took into account other people, that had their head on a swivel, that watched all the other "non-swoopers" nearly kill themselves and others but didn't even realize it because they were too focused on what they were doing, then i can do that for you. but then again i'm not sure if i'm a "real" swooper or not. to me your post implies that the swoopers are the one to fix this problem, because you think swoopers are the problem. however, this effects everyone and so everyone should be part of the solution. by the way there is no such thing as a 'real' swooper and a 'fake' swooper, only a responsible canopy pilot and a not responsible canopy pilot. (i hope you noticed i used canopy pilot and not swooper, a canopy pilot is anyone who flies a parachute). Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  23. sky systems factory diver for me. it's definitely saved my face more than once. one was a "little" incident with a tree on roll-out with my VX 84 at the time (see the end of the "carnage" video on skydivingmovies.com), other times i've attempted to dig a new swoop pond with the new technique of feet-knees- face-back- side-shoulder-face... (that's a new free style move by the way, called the "momma please help me" patent pending). yes, helmets are a good thing. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
