  1. all these posts are very disconcerning. you guys say you have nothing to gain by going pro? let me ask you something then, who will you learn more from more? JC or JayMo kickin your ass in pro? or you kickin someone else's ass in amature? for me I want to continually improve my canopy piloting ability and the only way i see that happen right now is surrounding myself with the best, and the best appear to be on the pro circuit, so i'm going there. Mark you also say you want to help out the next pilots coming up for next year, why not go pro and share what you learn from the pro's to the next up and comers? Luke Aikens came to one of our events and it was great because we got to compare our abilities to the pro's, it benefited all of us way more than watching video's of pro's or watching from the sidelines cause they were in the same environment as we were. next year i plan to go "pro" primarily because i want to advance my skills and reach personal goals. however, when i compete at the pro level then come back to the CPC as a guest it will give the people in my region a better understanding of where they are. plus, there are only 3 "pro's" in the whole Oregon/Washington region so having 1 more couldn't hurt. these are just my thoughts on the whole thing. 2. this slack in the rear lines is typical of all vx's from what i've experienced. but i've only experienced the stock line sets, so i don't know if longer lines would make the "bowing" more apparent. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  5. Todd Higley Jim Renfro and, Kim Winslow are the 3 that have had the biggest impact on me and skydiving. i don't tell them that enough, but they are the ones that have given me something i thought i had lost...thank you. 7. i have a PC100 and after turning it on it doesn't last more than 5 minutes before it starts saying "low battery" even though it was just fully charged. do you camera experts think this be a battery problem or a camera problem? 8. just wanted to throw in an interested tid bit of info. that might stir some thoughts when i was in colorado i was able to have dinner with a very well respected pro pilot and we got on to the conversation of terminal velocities and turns. he mentioned that for his canopy he doesn't really start to get close to terminal velocity until he's gone through about 2200-2500' of altitude in a turn. so basically he was telling me is that yes you'll gain more speed from doing bigger turns but as you do them the speed you get in return will be smaller and smaller. i thought it was interesting and might help explain why doing a 90 you get 21mph and doing a 270 you only get 26. plus as speed increases so does drag. 10. i call bull shit on this statement. young kimmie here will be rippin you guys a new one here shortly. she goes further doing a 90 then a lot of guys i know throwing 180's and 270's. edited to add: i do 270's just cause it's easier to set up. i'll be working on 450's here shortly tho, which also has the same set up just from the opposite side of the gates. 12. I went to Mile-Hi for the 1st ever cpc amateur championships and i couldn't have asked for a better place. everyone was really cool, they had great facilities, and the pond was great. i would really like to thank everyone there for such a great time and stay. and the plans they have for the years to come, it'll be hard to beat this place. go visit them.

  14. couldn't agree with you more on your last post. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  15. totally agree. just something to think about though is that change is a slow process. if we change stuff too fast without thinking about it, researching it, and/ or testing out the new rules/policies, then we could actually do more harm than good. and i think that's what the 'higher-ups' in our community are trying to do now. just my .02 Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  17. except today i think we have a better understanding of what is needed. last year this time this whole add 50#'s of wieght to get to 2.4+ was relatively new and most people didn't know what to think of it. now that we've seen the effects and realize the dangers associated with it, policies are being developed to help reduce the possiblities of injury or death. these policies/rules/whatever will most likely go into effect by next season i would assume. check out http://www.worldswooping.com/agenda.htm if you haven't already. there is also a discussion here: http://canopypiloting.tempwebpage.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=3924;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;guest= Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  18. the only person responsible for the training is YOU. the manufacters, the USPA, who ever, isn't going to be the one with the broken bones. no one is making people jump small, fast, canopies, so those who jump them must assume the resposiblities for their actions, i know i have. another thing to think about is how many QUALITY canopy instructors are out there right now? if USPA makes it part of getting a lisence then we'll have less quality instructors at every DZ giving out instruction on stuff they don't know (but that's just my opinion). now if they can make a canopy control rating, like an AFF or Tandem rating then they could control it a little bit. but who really knows what they are going to do. 20. i guess my statment was geared more specifically to the original poster and his particular instance of going from a 190, 170, 150. I too notice that going from a vx 89 at 2.1 to a vx 84 at 2.2 there is substantial increase in riser pressure. and even more so going from a 2.2WL on my vx 84 to a 2.4+WL on the same vx84, at 2.4 my vx 84 is a different animal than at 2.2 i think speed is the major determinate of riser pressure. that's why some people start in deep brakes before a turn, they're "depressurizing" the canopy enough so they can pull on the fronts. try pulling your fronts down after you've started a turn, it's very difficult or even impossible on some canopies. why? because of the speed. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  21. yes, WL effect riser pressure, but so does canopy size. if one was to add some weight and then try the 190 you'll see an increase in riser pressure. however, if you downsize you'll also be pulling less fabric, meaning most likely less front riser pressure. I would say expect less front riser pressure if you're staying with the same parachute but smaller.
  22. Awesome weather? woman it's fucking 35 degree's outside! that's not too awesome to me. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  23. ccowden pretty much sumed a good way to transition from 180 to 270 so check out his post. you also asked "how many should i do up high before attempting them?" however, no one can answer that but you. do as many as you think you need, then do a few more. a couple of drills you can do though, and i think they've been mentioned before, is opening high and doing a few 270's and seeing how much altitude you lose. start your turn at an easy number to read, such as 4000ft or 7000ft. also when you're up high, fly perpendicular to the runway and start your turn directly over the runway. this way you'll get to see what you're target looks like at the different angles you'll go through throughout your turn. you'll also be able to see if you're over/under rotating and if your offset to the runway after you've completed your turn. make sure you're above the minimum runway crossing altitude for your dz as well so you don't get in trouble. one last thing, watch your traffic. hope this helps Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
