no one watching this any more? If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

You still haven't figured out that: 1. You and people just like you are the ones causing this nation to be divided. Oh, I see. It's all Ron's fault. All that 'class war' bullshit that has been spewed by the left has been completely meaningless. I don't know about the rest of you, but when someone slaps me in the face I write them off. Screw 'em. Show me where I said that the right was the cause. I said people like him, not republicans. first of all he claims to not be a republican. Secondly he is as divisive as anyone that I have ever seen post. He continually posts about how stupid and horrible half the country is then complains about how divided things have become. People like him on both sides of the aisle are the reason that we are so divided. Then he continually advocates that half of the country secede from the union. If that isn't divisive then I don't know what is. As for the second part. The blue states continually contribute more in taxes than they get back while the red states get more than they contribute. Than means that the lazy freeloading blue states actually are the ones that support the hard working patriotic red states doesn't sound like anything you ever said could be divisive, eh? If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

Perhaps you might educate yourself on the history and development of Silicon Valley and the semiconductor industry. Electrical engineers knew, for a long time, how to design systems that could not be built with the current technology of the times. Enter Shockley and the other brilliant engineers figured out how to make circuits on silicon wafers. The process was extremely expensive, and not at all commercially viable for the private sector. The US government via NASA and the DOD had the money to, in the thinking of modern "conservatives", waste on products that did not have any perceived commercial value. The "wasted" money financed advances in design and manufacturing that brought down the cost for these products. Clever engineers like Wozniak figured out how to repurpose the products into assemblies that evolved into the personal computer, for example. Had the government followed what passes for "conservative" thinking these days, the government support of the semiconductor industry never would have happened in the USA. If that had happened, what would the world be like now? NASA budgets have been sliced and diced drastically. The moon landing project that cost billions of tax payer dollars ended up creating industries that returned trillions of dollars in economic growth. Once again, if what passes for "conservative" thinking had been applied, we would not have had the results of the government investment that happened. For skydivers, the history of the airplane industry follows much the same pattern. Why would intelligent, well informed people be against the government support of the alternative energy industry? I believe that they aren't. It is the low information people who don't know much about industrial history and the involvement of government in the development of industry. They are told that any involvement of the government in private industry is socialism, and they believe it. Romneys success rate at Bain was about 8% of their investments actually panned out. The US government's involvement in the alternative energy industry is running at about 22% or thereabouts. True patriots who cared about the long term success of the USA would be celebrating the successes, instead of dwelling on the failures. Gloating about the failures is not helpful to the long term health of the country. Quite the opposite. If you want to finance research into perfecting 'green energy systems' that's fine. But it certainly doesn't make it feasible to erect or produce thousands of inefficient monstrosities and replace or destroy viable producers such as existing plants or sources when in ten years time the technology you used to put up the inefficient monstrosities renders them obsolete and unnecessary... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

so...in your mind, what are the things that work? wind power doesn't work? solar doesn't work? of course they work. what is your definition of "work" and what do YOU suggest we do to reduce our dependence on nonrenewable energy sources? they certainly don't work efficiently enuf to justify the government investments that have been made in them. To put it succinctly, if people want to pay a premium for 'green' energy, they are welcome to do so. They don't have the right to make people who don't want to pay a premium for 'green' energy do so under duress. Also they don't have the right to force wind turbine farms or solar farms on local communities without the community having any say in it, and without consideration of the zoning and land use in the surrounding locations. When technology has advanced to the point where it is feasible to replace existing technology, it will happen naturally. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. You're going reduction ad absurdum. I've already told you what I think of predictions. Prediction - the universe will end as a very very cold, dark, empty place. I'm pretty certain of it. Why? Because of thermodynamics. It's the law. Three, actually. first law - you can't win. Second law - you can't break even. Third law - you can't get out of the game. Prediction? In the long term - we're fucked. Until an exception to the laws of thermodynamics is found, it's rather simple. Now add climate. Long term forecast? We're fucked. The laws of thermodynamics tell us this. Near term? Well, that's a lot more complicated. We cannot predict with certainty apophis' orbit. Because we can't yet measure it precisely enough. We have probabilities. I have a prediction: Apophis may go through a gravitational keyhole resulting in a pretty rough Friday the 13th. We have probabilities, and even with something as SIMPLE as Newtonian physics - we aren't sure. And you are saying that we are more certain of climate in 100 years than we are about the orbit or an asteroid? I say we are far more certain about Apophis - and we aren't 100% certain of that. That's why there are "real climate scientists" and then there's everyone else. Climate science is extremely complicated. Right, and some 98% of real climate scientists are in agreement that the climate is changing and human activity is a major driver of that change. Yes, and the disagreement is how much of a problem this is to us as a society or a species, and how much of an economic suicide are we ready to undertake in order to combat the situation, or can we just 'live' with it. 40 children (up to the age of 18) are abducted and murdered by strangers a year. Almost 10 times more children (under the age of 15) are killed by accidental firearm deaths per year. AI quoted in my post, it is estimated that for every stranger abduction, there are 20 failed abduction attempts. That makes about 800 attempts a year, a seriously large number to me. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

You can call bullshit all day long, facts are facts and I'm not the one that made them. I work with sick and injured children and I have seen plenty brutalized and beaten by their own family, but I have yet to see a child beaten by a stranger. http://www.justice.gov/oig/reports/FBI/a0908/chapter3.htm So how do justify the differences between the figures I quoted, which also come from an fbi site, with the figures you quote? It is a good story, but the only reason it is a story is do to the rarity of a stranger abducting and or murdering a child. Stories about children shooting and killing other children is all to common, and not very news worthy these days. I call bullshit. I think there's a hell of a lot more child abductions or murders than you're saying. 1. Yearly around 750,000 children are reported missing in the United States, around 2,000 every day. 2. Most of these are runaways or kids taken by a family member. 3. Around 100 children are abducted and murdered in the U.S. each year. Around 60% of all child-murder abductions are at the hands of someone the child knows, not a stranger. 7. For every successful stranger abduction, there are many more failed attempts. It's hard to know the exact number, as many cases are disregarded by parents and never reported, and record keeping is spotty at best. But based on our own monitoring of news reports, we would estimate around 20 failed attempts for every successful abduction. So while only around 100 children are kidnapped and murdered each year (most by friends and family), countless others are tested! Make sure your child is prepared. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

Of course I'm glad the girl is alive, but your argument is based on emotion. Damn, my comments have been short enough thus far--the least you could do is read them before replying. What part of saying that parents are capable of teaching and kids are capable of learning proper handling of firearms is emotional? Even before I was 12 I knew where my dad kept the 1911 and I knew how to use it. You know what happened? Nothing. So whose argument gets shot to shit just by that example? Not mine. I think the greater good is that no child should ever be left alone with a loaded gun. Viva la difference. How do you know it was loaded? Maybe she got out some ammo and loaded it herself? I was going to say something about of course this makes sense. As soon as you start bringing in 'green energies', the cost of power goes up astronomically and most of your manufacturing sector will shut down or move because they can't afford to run their machinery. So when you introduce green energy on a massive scale, you'll lose your traditional labor base. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Ya know, it's starting to get on my nerves. The amount of drivel about this president or that directly affecting things like this in any sort of "real time." Every single president (along with congress, etc), republican and democrat, is reacting to one thing or another and trying to push it around. The real truth of how that exactly works out is so many times more complicated than you can even imagine. Throwing it around like political drivel is super awesome though isn't it. If they want to take the credit for the good stuff they get to take credit for the bad as well. I wish we had a 'like' button. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/wp/2012/10/16/brian-antal-paul-ryan-critic-has-voted-in-democratic-primaries/ Well, the funny thing is, it turns out this 'independent' isn't independent at all, he's been voting in the democratic primaries since 1995. Oh, and it seems Ryan DID get permission, WAS led in by a volunteer, and did wash some dirty dishes. Basically Antal has admitted everything he said to the media was pretty much a lie. I'd stop supporting him too, turns out he's a LIAR! If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Actually, as Dav John said, most people believe that the earth DID warm for a period, but not the last 10 years or so. Which they believe is because the earth has always gone through warming and cooling cycles, and this is only part of that. Many or most may also believe pollution or burning fossil fuels has had some effect on those cycles -- they don't believe, however, that the effect is enough to impose draconian new rules and change their standards of living for the small changes it may be making in the earth's natural cycles. This isn't an outcome anybody takes lightly. Obumma didn't seem too upset when he was making the tv circuit. He didn't seem upset enuf to attend his security briefings. He didn't seem upset enuf to meet with heads of state of some of the mid eastern nations... He only seemed to start to get upset about it when he realized people seemed to expect him to be upset. Back in the 80's when back-to-earth flying was becoming all the rage, visiting Roger Nelson's dz near Chicago I remember seeing a picture of one of the freak brothers on his back with his legstraps up around his knees and the bottom of his rig riding up around the back of his neck. Even tho' we habitually wore our rigs a bit looseto be cool, It was sort of a scary pic at the time. Fox News audio manipulation of the VP debate
skypuppy replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
He said scratchy....and let's face it, Biden's not the most likeable guy to start with and it was painful listening to him interrupting repeatedly. Making his voice closer to chalkboard only amplifies that and at a subtle subconscious level. So yes, there are benefits, if it did indeed occur. Biden is unlikeable only to a certain kind of person. The kind that doesn't like folksy, true blue Americans. The kind that likes creepy eyed, lying weasels like Ryan. Biden's normal voice is deep and projects well. He is the epitome of a politician, a throwback to the good old days. He does not have a scratchy, crackling voice as was broadcast of Faux. When a weasel like Ryan is not stopping on time, telling lies and uttering half truths, he deserves to be interrupted to be corrected by his elders and betters. Ryan refused to take credit for his own policies and sponsored legislation. Co-sponsoring personhood bills with Todd Akin is a fact. Why didn't Ryan admit it? yup. no bias here... Not sure how that's an attack on Romney's person. It's out of line, but not a personal attack. It's akin to the right saying that Obama hates your success and want's to punish people for doing well. It's not true, but not a personal attack. That is something we will have to disagree on. Saying someone hates your success and telling people that the right (Romney/Ryan) want to go back to slavery is very different in my mind. You are correct, Rstanley If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. As I said, I know Romney's father's background, so yes, I know where Romney was born. I don't need proof. Where the candidate's own memoir and grandmother imply that he was born outside the country, then yes, people are entitled to question the location of his birth and ask for proof. If his memoir hadn't stated he was born outside the country, and his grandmother hadn't stated he was born outside the country, then it probably wouldn't be relevant. But they did.
