  1. If you would just use your brain a little bit even you could comprehend In a just world, I guess we would all be speaking German. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  2. so it's better to not have the ability to ensure freedom? If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  3. I haven;t heard of hoarding weapons being associated with mental illness. You got a study on that? Hoarding cats, maybe, but not guns... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  4. Well, you could try and talk a drug crazed crack-head or someone mentally ill out of killing you while waiting for the Police. I've seen this work on TV and in the movies many times. You Have? When? Batman Begins? Oh, wait.... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. 5. I don't know = he sounded like he knew pretty much what he was doing when he got elected the first time. Didn't seem to think it would be a problem. In fact I think he said something about just sitting down and hashing things out around a table or something... But then again, maybe that was all the 'experience' he had getting things done in the private sector before running for president. All you're demonstrating is: facts be damned, as long as you get your noise in. Whatever floats your boat. I think what we're demonstrating here is O's been the least efficient president the country has ever had. If he knew this was coming up, and he knew what he was going to do, he should have postponed his vacation. I know several people that had to do that this year to handle crises at work in different circumstances. That would at least have saved the cost of one flight to hawaii and back. 7. For someone that's always working, why hasn't he actually managed to pass a budget in years? Going by what he's achieved since in office, they might have been better off without him. 8. Only as an absolute last resort. The first line of defence is making it extremely difficult to get to the political leader or the money in the bank. There are many banks with no guns in them at all. Generally bankrobberies are reduced, not by adding more guns, but by making it much more difficult to get to it and by making it much more difficult to use it, if you do get to it. really? so those buttons they use to call armed police with guns aren't really necessary? If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

  12. 1. I generally mean exactly what I write, no more and no less. 2. Any paper is within its rights to publish public information. Personally I think it was inflammatory and unhelpful, but I'm not a newspaper editor. actually, gun owners' data is not public information. At least it definately shouldn't be. They should be sued for releasing it... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. 13. How long would an appeal take to get to court? And would gov't hold off on enforcing the new rules until a decision had been made, or start confiscating and destroying guns immediately? And then what happens after they've destroyed your guns, and feinstein's new law is thrown out later? If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  14. Really? Tell that to the families of the victims of the theatre shooting in Colorado. Try to sell that argument to them. Good luck. Hi-cap mags aren't THE problem. They're just ONE of the problems (among many) regarding guns in America. __________________________________________________ What might have helped in the colorado theatre shooting is if the school psychologist who had seen and made observations on the guy had notified police or other people that there was a problem. Not real familiar with the shooting itself, but I seem to recall he had lots of weapons, so having a high-capacity mag in one weapon doesn't seem to up the ante a whole lot. We just gave you two examples, columbine and virginia tech, that took place without high capacity mags. (as I said, cho had 1 10 round, and one 15 round handgun). I'll say it again, high capacity mags are not the problem. Crazy people, and the people around them not recognizing their intentions, or worse, ignoring signs and statements of crazy people , that's the problem... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  15. How about if I answer your question this way: Restrict pistol mag capacities to a maximum of ten rounds. I suppose you'd have to grandfather some Glocks, but sell no further models that carry more than ten. No assualt weapons unless you jump through major Federal hoops first, and no mags for them above ten rounds. Establish a basic licensing system for first-time ownership that includes a picture license. Requirements: Proper age, training in use, safety course. Two levels, one general for 'normal' weapons, non-concealed carry. A second level for the same weapons, concealed carry. Possibly a third level that allows you to carry those grandfathered Glocks I mentioned, or similar. My 'gun' background is like this: US Army vet, mid-1970's. Gun owner since the age of 16. Look at it this way: If you standardize these things, it puts most citizens on an even level regarding weapons. How will you protect yourself or your family if someone comes at you with fifty rounds in an assault rifle, and you are armed with a shotgun? The playing field (hate to put it that way) must be leveled, and the screening on ownership improved tremendously. Well, cho at virginia tech (remember it = highest fatality count - even more than Newtown)with two standard handguns - one with a 10 round mag and one with a 15 round (a glock, I think). I think I heard he had 19 mags in his backpack (I could be wrong on the number) High capacity mags are not the problem... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  16. Unfortunately the man is at odds with his constituency, because I've heard that gun owners don't trust Politicians to simply create a database whose sole purpose is to prevent crazies from getting guns. "Sole" is the key word here. If we are going to have a list of crazy people it should be used for more than just denying 2nd Amendment rights. It could/should also be available to the DMV, elections officials, employers, armed services, social clubs, law enforcement, TSA, community organizers, theme parks, homeowners' associations, etc. Those folks need to make informed decisions, too. Might also be useful to someone thinking about getting hitched. and of course, the progressives will argue against such a list because it is an invasion of privacy and might lead to discrimination of the mental challenged. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  17. yep. never had an incident anywhere outside the states, I guess. the fact is, a lot of people who were living in countries outside the states might still be alive if they or someone else around them had had firearms on them when they were needed.... as far as your feeling pity for americans, I'm sure they're not losing too much sleep over your feelings... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  18. Hmmm. I don't believe the majority of gunowners would willingly turn over their ar15,'s for instance -- otherwise, why would they have run out and bought them up in anticipation of a ban over the last 5 years? And if the ban doesn't include confiscation, what use is it? Even if it got 1/3rd of guns handed in, there's still 200 million out there, and I doubt that many gun owners would comply willingly. When they recently disallowed and confiscated some long guns here in canada, 'MARKET VALUE' was NOT offered for the gun=owners involved. If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  19. LAW ABIDING CITIZENS do not fight cops in the street, or anywhere else. frankly if the law to ban and confiscate is unconstitutional, then not allowing them to have your guns would not be against the law. If they wanted to force it, then they are taking your property, and you would be justified to defend it. Especially if they were entering your house. The decision on whether a law to ban assault rifles is unConstitutional is not yours to make. You have to assume it's Constitutional until a court declares otherwise. So the gov't bans weapons, and decides to confiscate them -- on appeal the decision is made that the new ban and confiscation is unconstitutional and overturns it == and the gov't has already destroyed millions of weapons, without fair compensation. So what is the settlement for people who had their rights illegally evaporated? It would of course probably take 2-5 years for the case to work its way through the courts. So you think mericans should just allow their property to be taken illegally and destroyed? A law limiting freedom (or any law really) should have to be proven constitutional before it can take effect. But does Obama believe in the constitution>? 21. there wasa discussion on tvo's the agenda program about this latest incident, and on of the mental health experts mentioned a paper that concluded some mental health issues such as paranoia tended to be weeded out in inclusive socialist-style cultures that downplays individualism and encourages statism, where they tend to be exagerated in a culture such as the us which emphasizes individualism and downplays statism... It was an interesting discussion if somewhat confused because of the vagueness of the latest incident at the time as pertaining to mental health of the shooter.... Don't know if there's video online, but the show airs on tvo.org If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. 22. Just as strikingly, the NRA response refused to acknowledge and address the beliefs of a majority of Americans in recent polls that the U.S. needs tougher laws in favor of gun safety. oh, really. what were the percentages? 47% vs 46%? 23. actually they already shoot up restaurants, and other places. And besides, in most of those restaurants patrons can already conceal carry. So armed guards in schools is not a bad idea. 24. which is pretty much why the whole idea of banning is idiotic.... If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
  25. I don't think airport type security is really possible in every single school. Armed teachers would minimize fatalities. I also suggested having armed security guards/LEO's. I read about a school here in Texas that did arm their teachers. Not that dumb of an idea in my opinion. Schools could control access/entry points waaaaay better than they do. Doesn't have to have as much security as airport but an armed guarde near the door might help. Arming a few teachers, and not the door is a dumb idea. Why, by the time the armed teach got to the classroom where the shoot was kids would already be dead. Look at Giffords shooting case in AZ. Joe Zamudio who was carrying a gun, heard shots from afar yet couldn't get there in time to do any good. Arming teachers is not as good as controlling access to the school grounds or building. I'm much rather sit in a class knowing the building was secured, not knowing a teacher had a gun on the second floor, and a 100 yards from where I was sitting where the door was wide open. While it may be a good idea to put better locks on the doors, I still a shooter would just show up before school opens or when it ends, and hundreds of students are milling about in front of or coming out of the doors. In fact they're packed so close together he'd probably have more casualties than bullets fired. Don't think that locking doors is the whole answer. Still need someone to stop him when he starts up.
