Hi Dave, I started at United (up to level 12), and have one jump in at Above the Poconos Skydivers in Hazleton. I went from a Manta 288, (ripcord) to a Sabre 230 (BOC) - SWEET. The folks up there are very professional and friendly, and the student gear is in great shape. I'm even getting packing instruction from a rigger, instead of "picking it up on my own". All we need is some cooperation from the weather. . . . . . . . . . . ----------------=8^)---------------------- "I think that was the wrong tennis court."

I was thinking of putting this in Talk Back, but it is Skydiving related. I just read JT's article in Parachutist, and I think it is way cool. As you can see by my profile, I'm an unlicensed rookie (thanks in part to the shitty PA weather of late) - and I make safety my first priority every skydive. I don't see this being an issue, as my DZ is extremely cool - but I sure hope experienced folks (besides my friends) won't hesitate to jump with me once I'm cleared and beered on my "A" license. It's good to know - even though he's a nut - that people are thinking of us rookies, and are willing to help us have fun, learn skills, and be safe. P.S. I've seen the term "pullout" used a lot throughout these forums. At the DZs I've been to, I've seen ripcord rigs (student), BOC throwouts, and legstrap throwouts. Could someone please 'splain to me what a pullout deployment system is? Does it utilize a spring-loaded pilot chute like a ripcord system? I would definitely visit it, if it comes to pass. I realize financing is more readily acquired for new buildings/structures - but still question the wisdom of building a huge, shiny, new building - when the economy is such that a suitable existing building could be financed for a fraction of the cost of a new facility.
