  1. I've got a Sharpchuter fully CRW built....has about 400 jumps on it. Trouble is its about 12000 miles away from where I am right now..... My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  2. It takes one jump to learn a to do a delta. At terminal, from whatever position, arch the spine, legs straight, point the toes, sweep arms back against your legs. count to 3. You'll go head down and stable. From there return to a normal belly to earth FF position, Simple You should burn about a thousand feet in 3 seconds at terminal. Its not rocket science. 3. From CAT E. So I'm having a bit of an issue when I hear so many want to teach something that isn't in the SIM. All though I'm not arguing with ya, do whatever works and perhaps spend some jumps practicing this. But please start with going back to basic instability and recovery as outlined in the SIM. I agree completely, if that was in fact some attempt at recovery, then they need some help.... Otherwise you are on your own? C Cause after jump number 25 just where and when do you do this instruction? And just how, does this reflect back upon the instructor after they have demonstrated stability after 5 seconds? The delta has been a tried and true method of recovery from instability since Christ was a cowboy....and because it doesn't appear in the SIM doesn't make it any less effective or valid. It is not taught to AFF students, I suspect, because of the fear of having the student get away from the Instructors, hence the emphasis on the "arch like hell" approach.....a slow fall position rather than the high speed delta. A case of an effective recovery method being discounted to fit in with the AFF programme. Its not a good reason not to teach it, but again, I suspect most of the AFF trained students who have become instructors simply don't know about it, and if they do, don't want to teach it. It is still as valid a method, and I would say still a better method of recovery than any other, no matter what the current method or procedure is. I still teach it, whether it is in any SIM or training programme or not. Some things are not set in concrete. Skydivers were doing head down FF long before freeflying came into fashion. It was called a delta, and only needed to be held for a couple of seconds. It was modified slightly to a track or a no lift dive, used to get down to a formation..... Ask the old farts at your DZ what they think of it. Then get in the air and try it. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  4. Now THAT was impressive. Well done to everyone, especially the boys in the formation. That was very well set up and executed. Have an internet beer on me!!!. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  5. Thanks for the replies, I too would be tempted to add some stupid answers to some of the questions. We are seeing some variations though, although, keep in mind that they need to be anwered from the POV of an A licence candidate...so hard decks, for example should be a little higher for them than the 1200 feet that an experienced jumper might have. I'd like to see a few answers from recently qualified A licence jumpers, just to see any variations, as well as some answers from experienced jumpers, especially instructors, just to get some different opinions. Really appreciate the time people are putting in to providing feedback. Thanks. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  6. @ mcstain... Good question! Aside from some of the above rants, the easy answer (to you the student) is to "ARCH". If ever in trouble like this, arch. As stated above, there are other techniques you can try (delta), but, I tell students that most can be fixed with a good hard arch.
  7. I think you can extend the KNUCKLEHEAD status to the morons who failed to train these people in the first place, and then turned them loose on the skydiving community, to endanger not just themselves, but others as well. WTF is going on?. Who is allowing these incompetants who call themselves Instructors the licence to take money for training, and turn out such incompetance. Instruction and training seems to be seriously deficient. This problem needs to be addressed seriously, otherwise there are going to be a lot more impact craters in the days and years to come. I've said before that the failure to ensure high quality Instruction and Instructors across the board is going to come back and bite our community on the arse. Its up to all of us to ensure the highest standards are reached and maintained across the board, and to loudly question things when we see those standards are not being reached. Poor instruction is a serious, and growing issue IMO. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  8. This is basic stuff. It should be ingrained, part of your DNA as a skydiver, as soon as you are solo in FF for more than 10 second delays.. You should not need "reminding". Your words give me a very poor impression of whoever it is that is instructing you. And I'm using "instructing" in the loosest term possible. 9. I have 7 freefalls, and I'm not sure exactly how I would deal with it. Perhaps I should take up bowling too. There is a lot to remember when learning to skydive. Better have a chat with my instructors at the DZ tomorrow! Apparently this guy has 100 jumps. Thats why he should be bowling. My students were taught on their 4th or 5th freefall how to delta out of instability. Best you ask your instructors when they are going to get around to showing you how to deal with it. Because its something you need to know, early in your FF career. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  10. Not sure how it is administered but I have an inkling it is able to be completed and submitted on line, and evaluated by an outside assessor. It is poorly done IMO, as this kind of stuff should be taught to the student as they progress through their training, until at the end the Instructor can sign them off for their licence. Most of it is basic knowledge, and some of it is so ambiguous as to be useless. I don't see the need for a formal written exam at this stage at all, yet it is a pre requisite before this organisation issues an A licence. I'm thinking the people who set this up have no real idea of what they are doing, looking at it from my POV as a professional educator, as well as an Instructor/examiner, they seem to have made a pigs ear out of what should be a fairly straight forward exercise. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  11. Unbelievable. I would expect a student to know how to deal with that situation after 5 or 6 freefalls. This guy needs to take up bowling, after giving whoever failed to train him in the basics a swift uppercut. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  12. Thanks for your response Rich...yes I thought there were a number of answers which could be answered stupidly but technically correctly e.g. Q18....."gravity is working". I don't know who came up with this test, but it is actually in use, the composer doesn't seem like a very bright spark at all. Some of the questions would be more appropriate at 1st jump level.....I would like to see a question or two about how to determine the exit point, detail an equipment check, setting AAD's, jumping at different elevations etc etc...much more appropriate for someone who at A licence is about to be turned loose. However, it would be good to see a lot more responses to see what others think. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  13. OK, I came across this sample test for an AFF candidate sitting a test for A licence. I'm interested to see the responses to this test if you have a little time to complete it, I'm interested to see any variation in answers, because some of the questions seem a bit ambiguous. Some seem a bit silly even. Appreciate answers from anyone/everyone, not just A licence holders. Also I'd like opinions on whether you think the questions are appropriate/adequate for an A licence test. Thanks in advance. My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
  14. The guy must have been a lot older than 80. The Arnhem jump was in 1944....69 years ago. I doubt an 11 year old would have jumped into Arnhem. I trained and jumped 20 Arnhem vets on the 50th anniversary of the battle in 1994, and most of those guys were old then, mid to late 70's and even one who was 80. 19. Match point. TUSA under extreme stress now. 1 mistake will finish it. TNZ can afford to relax and wait for an opening, as long as they don't break their boat... Be great to go for a blast on one of those boats..... My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....

She looked pretty delerious when they interviewed her just after she finished. Hopefully they'll do a proper interview when she's had a day or two to recover. Awesome feat. Go granny go........ My computer beat me at chess, It was no match for me at kickboxing....
