Speak for yourself, how do you know I didn't graduate to 10% of my class? You just keep digging a hole for yourself. -
Couple in Las Vegas Killings Embraced Anti-Government Ideology
Boomerdog replied to mpohl's topic in Speakers Corner
To recap... Two whacked out nut jobs kill two police officers and a bystander leaving behind swastikas and a Gadsden Flag before committing suicide. Swastikas, the symbol of National Socialism i.e. Nazis i.e. Fascists. I believe one of the operative words here is "socialism" and I'm sure you'll probably disagree but Fascism and Communism having the common denominator of Socialism are two different sides of the same "coin of the Left" so to speak. Although the presence of the Gadsden Flag does puzzle me a bit. Bottom Line...they're not "right wing." Whatever they are, they have no place on my side of the line. -
Couple in Las Vegas Killings Embraced Anti-Government Ideology
Boomerdog replied to mpohl's topic in Speakers Corner
I'll file your post under "unclear on the concept." First and foremost, these murderous scum are nut jobs clear and simple. Murder WAS their purpose, their ideology an insane pretext. -
Well, that's how it starts out then "mission creep" or should I say "power creep" leads to the nightmare that is communism. By all means, go out and help your fellow human being. Put YOUR time and YOUR money into the effort but please do not force me at the point of the gun vis a vis law to make me follow you and those who agree with you. I truly am heartened and proud of you that you are off the welfare rolls and it sounds like your supporting yourself well. If you want to go out and return the favor, go do it. Rest assured I do the same in my community both with my $$$ and my time. What you're advocating is NOT a Flat Tax but a Progressive Income Tax which currently exists to this day. A flat tax works like this...a 10% across the board flat tax means a person with a reportable taxed income of $50,000.00 pays a tax of $5000.00. A person with a reportable taxed income of $5,000,000.00 pays an income tax of $500,000. Make more pay more but at the same flat rate. If you think you're not being taxed enough, you are welcome to write a cheque for more money to the Government and I'm sure they'll be happy to take the money. I won't tell you how to spend your money so please don't tell me how to spend mine. Obviously, your heart and my heart go out to poor people but IMHO a job is the best sociological invention known to foster our development and upward mobility. When was the last time you ever heard of a poor person creating a job? The wealthy create jobs through investment and risk taking. What specific "drains" on society" are the wealthy making? You state that you have "no problems with letting people earn whatever they can, but have a problem with people who take money and move it around etc etc." Well perhpas those people are taking their capital gains and re-investing those gains into a businees that creates jobs? Lastly, what makes you think government is a better arbiter and spender for the public good? Don't empower yourself with other people's money of which neither you or I are entitled to. May I humbly (and I do mean humbly) suggest you read and take to heart some basic economics?

10,000 unemployed comedians and you show up here.

OOOPSS! I have made a GROSS geographical error. Yorktown is located on the York River NOT the James River. I apologize to you and all.

and now for the rest of the story... Maj Pitcairn was orderd by General Gage to confiscate arms, powder, and ball from the armories as well as from the good citizens of Lexington and Concord. Apparently the good citizens of Lexington and Concord had a "differing point of view" as they say. Now it makes good military sense to confiscate weapons from a citiznery on who's land one occupies. It's bad enough to have to fight an opposing army and worse to fight an opposing army PLUS a citizen insurgency. Sooo...every city British Redcoats occupied, they were dern smart to confiscate weapons. But this was NOT lost on our Founding Fathers once you guys left from this place called Yorktown, Virginia. It's a sleepy little town on the James River about 20 miles from Williamsburg...great place; been there many times! So before you call us a bunch of "gun crazies," try to understand and be a bit respectful of our history and point of view. After all when I visit your wonderful country (and I have on many occassions of which I am fortunate), I defer to a principle of respect for your point of view. We have a Second Amendment for very good reasons. So it begs the question, WHO gave us that idea and set the conditions in the first place? So since we are throwing verbal rocks today, I will politely toss one back your way. Have a good jump weekend...I certainly intend to.

Yup! For the record and in the balance, it's better that we got Mr. Bergdahl back. The price we paid in giving back five big players of AQ is questionable but Obama, like Reagan and like Bush (to burst kallend's balloon) was in that unfortunate area where no additional good outcome was possible other than getting an American back and that may have to be sufficieint in and of itself. BUT the mistake Obama et. al made was making this guy out to be a hero against the facts arrayed against their position AND WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE CHECKED OUT BEFORE GOING INTO "CHEER LEADER" MODE. (PRESIDENT'S NEED TO CHECK THEIR FACTS LEST THEY PLACE FOOT IN MOUTH AND OTHER SELF INFLICTED WOUNDS OCCUR). To repeat; Snarky? Guilty on all counts but this is one of the very very very very few times I'm right on an issue, this is one of those times and I'm not backing down.

Those my be the operarive words here with respect to your position.

You are welcome to your opinion.

See my post above. I think this may be one of those rare instances where an individual joins the military then realizes that the "all expense paid" trip to another country involves shooting and killing an enemy and NOT being a tourist or doing what one would like to do much less forming an opinion about it and then acting on that opinion. War is nasty business, I know, I've been in it and I've seen the effects, it's not pretty stuff. Even the rules of behavior in captivity as a POW (but a deserter is NOT a POW) require one to keep faith and loyalty to the oath of enlistment or comissioning. The "all-volunteer" military DOES NOT MEAN that the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) awards special accomodations to volunteers who desert their posts.
-
Not so fast! Your not getting away with this one unchallenged. At this point, there is evidence; and pretty good evidence that Bergdahl deserted. It is very rare for a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to come out and offer a statement based upon evidence that might cast a pall on the actions of a President. Four Star Generals are careful, very careful about the information and the credibility of the information that backs up a desertion charge. Don't pick on Bergdahl, think of his family? Then I would hope you think about the eight families of the eight soldiers WHO DIED SEARCHING FOR THIS DESERTER! Bergdahl a scapegoat? Do you KNOW what desertion is? Let me put it to you this way...it ain't like your skipping school here. In civilian life, ya don't show up for work, you either get docked pay and/or fired. In the military, ya don't show up for duty, ya risk getting a letter of reprimand put in your personnel file all the way up to being thrown in the stockade. To desert in an operational warzone is a very very very serious matter. The maximum penalty upon a courts-martial conviction is death. I'll risk the possibility of getting banned from this forum but on this issue, what you have offered is nothing more than ignorance mixed with milk toast pap. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Obama administration fell on its ass and screwed the pooch big time on this one. Congratulations? I think not.

From today until Tuesday, I will refrain from making any political opinion known on any issue in this forum. This is a time, in my opinion and personal choice to put it aside. I claim nothing special in this action. We have lively debates here; we go to the proverbial mat here to passionately defend our own values and opinions. It is time for me at least, to put it aside and remember those who allowed each and everyone of us to have such values and engage in lively debate. Many DZ's will be open on Monday for skydiving. I certainly intend to be jumping this entire weekend. A humble request to all if possible. Take a chair to your DZ and attach an American Flag and if you wish, a POW/MIA flag and a flag of all five services (yes...let's not forget the Coast Guard). Place a polite note in the chair that no one is to sit in it. This is the chair for those who did not come home. This Memorial Day, let's not forget who "paid for the party." All gave some, some gave all.

Yea...one of the signs I've been looking for. Does anyone know where to get them?
-
I've been all over the Internet (apparently not enough) looking for web sites and clip art to put together some DZ safety signs to keep visitors back from airplanes and areas where only skydivers are allowed beyond certain points on the DZ. I would be most obilged if anyone knows websites that contain the clip art and templates to make these great signs.

Let's just say President Obama and I are not on each others Christmas Card list and leave it at that. President Obama is not to blame, but he will deserve the blame if he cannot fix this mess on his watch. The problem with the VA has been ongoing through many Presidents AND Congress. The common theme/problem so to speak is that the VA spends more time looking for ways to deny Veterans their benfits than taking the time to help them. Thus, I would submit it's not a question of money so much as a callous attitude coupled to the culture of a large bureaucracy crippled by its own internal self made inertia. But it's still a heinous scandal of epic failure and proportion. The VA knows how to say "NO!" to Vets...it's got that act down cold. What if those vets who had: Suvived the hardships of the Winter at Valley Forge Manned the cannons at Fort McHenry Stood ground at Gettysburg, Antietam Charged San Juan Hill Gone "over the top" in WWI Kept faith at Guadalcanal Charged the beaches at Normandy Stayed the course in the cruel Winter of Bastonge Hung tough at Chosin Dug in at Khe Sanh Patrolled Fallujah Had said "NO!" What would be the results? The "leaders" of the VA are not leaders, they are dirtbag scoundrels who deserve nothing but our contempt and scorn. Their actions are nothing less than a breach of faith and a sacred trust broken between a country and those who accepted the call of their country to defend it in the darkest hours of our history and survival WHEN IT MATTERED MOST. But when it came time to help the vets when it mattered most for the vets they retreated like yellow cowards hiding behind what they interpreted as the rules and regulations rather than living the spirit of doing the right thing. I would politley ask that you don't ask me how I really think and feel about this matter.

***You haven't been paying attention if you think there's only one. Rich Iott Carl Paladino Sharron Angle Christine "I am not a witch" O'Donnell Todd Akin Richard Mourdock Quite the contrary...I do pay attention but it was you who started this thread "Another clueless tea partier" which means one person. I'm just trying to stick to the subject matter and context of the esteemed, all knowing all wise originator! I'm assuming that's you...right?

Have I been to college? Yup! Graduate school too!

Ah yes...one jerk/jerkette and the whole group gets painted with same. Seems since the 60's (I remember them well), the "rightwous left" was warning the rest of us with finger wagging in our faces about stereotyping and just how bad it was and is; that much we can agree on. But it seems dear friend you've succummed to the words of the late historians Will and Ariel Durant who eloquently stated, "What we have fought against, we have become." And I might add one of my favorites, the late William F. Buckley who stated that, "I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people in the Boston Telephone Directory than the faculty of Harvard University." My own personal variation with apologies to the late Mr. Buckley is that I would trust the government of the United States to the first 400 people of any US telephone directory than I would the faculty of ANY university. Have a nice day!

Secretariat owns all of the track records in the TC. I remember watching the '73 Belmont Stakes. To this day, I still can't believe what I see on the You tube videos. This year? Maybe. California Chrome is a strong horse but the Belmont at a mile and a half is a tough race. We shall see.
