  1. New to skydiving (three years and counting) but not new to golf (47 years) and no I did not stay at a Holiday Inn over night. The use of the golf swing as a comparative analogy to skydiving only works if the principle, "practice makes permanent," is applied. I'll reference two swings of two golfers. The best example of a golf swing IMHO and the opinion of many others is Ben Hogan and perhaps the worst is the golf swing of Charles Barkley. One was a professional golfer and the other (despite being in the NBA) is an amateur golfer who picked up some extremely bad habits and unfortunately has a horrid horrid swing. Bad habits developed over time in golf are tough to get rid of. On the other hand, I don't know if bad habits as a function of muscle memory can be easily corrected in skydiving. I think it's safe to state that some bad habits developed in skydiving left unrecognized and/or uncorrected have a higher potential of removing one from the active gene pool.
  2. No I think you have that confused with the blue utility uniforms submariners wear. "Dress Blues" are an Air Force uniform (uh cut that out right now I know and can hear what you're thinking!). The Navy and the Air Force don't want to be confused with one another. Besides, the Village People never sang songs about the Air Force.
  3. The hull welds will be crooked with little seamen.
  4. I'll make a deal with you. You can use the term "Reich Wing Conservatives" if you let me use the term "Commie Liberal Pinko Bastards" in my writing. Deal?
  5. A real rabble rouser eh? The Supremes fell a vote or two granting "cert" to hear the case. Besides it's San Francisco, a beautiful city but like the late Robin Williams said, "San Francisco is proof positive that God still plays with an Etch-A-Sketch."
  6. What you refer to is one of many bits of information coming forth and in situations such as this, first reports are sketchy, full of rumor, speculation, etc. Now, I stand by my prior statement that the cop was justified in pulling his weapon for the reasons previously specified. But remember, things are not always what they seem.
  7. Once again, great job and a big thank you to you and FlyingRehnquist for keeping all of us out in the rest of the country apprised of all of this. I've read all the links you've posted and found them helpful and informative if in the event this nightmare is ever visited on our respective home DZ's.
  8. So define "little." My definition are infants to 5 years old but then that's just me. I don't see little kids here. I see a bunch of adolescent kids. O&BTW, any one of these "little kids" might be carrying a weapon. Now I've been a critic of the cops here. Skycop and I have had some lively back and forth on such issues. In this case from the video only, the cops did right. Those those "little kids" can profess their innocence all they like. My questions to each of them are 1)Why were you there? and 2)Why did you hang around when the violence began? Might they have instinctively known that the cops would be on scene in a matter of minutes so why not vacate the scene and save themselves a whole bunch of trouble with the cops?!?!?! And before anyone tosses the race card at me, now hear this; it could have easily been a bunch of white punks making trouble and my response would be the same.
  9. Looking at the video, the cop realizes he has two males approaching from behind. What are these two males doing approaching a cop from behind and WHAT might they be carrying? In this case, I'm siding with the cop on this one. I'd have pulled a weapon in the same set of circumstances.
  10. Actually it should be camel's "nose" not camel's toe. As far as the quip about 10,000 unemployed comedians...taking that one too seriously maybe?
  11. It appears she's spoiling for one. I'm confident counsel for MHS will exercise prudence and patience to ascertain what's "beneath the table" on this strategy before they pull the trigger on a law suit. ...and no CQS will not quit until they are legally pounded into pulp. Sad.
  12. Oh darn! The Village People...quite a blast from the past. 'reckon I'm a bit too square for that stuff. Then again...Huey Louis sang that "It's hip to be square."
  13. Jenner has always been a publicity hound who thought he had star power after he won the Decathalon in the '76 Olympics in Montreal. Now ya gotta give Jenner the respect for the performance in the Decathlon...major wow factor. Apart from being a late comer to the TV Series Chips...I really don't know what Jenner did in Hollywood but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Jenner's course is Jenner's choice; live and let live. But a CMH? That just might get the Vets rioting in the streets. Yea...I'd be a part of that
  14. There's a lot of amazing women in the military and I had the honor and privilege of serving and working with a few of them. Should women be serving in the military? Unequivocally yes. Aircraft mechanics are not specialized infantry i.e. Army Rangers. Both are important to the larger operational "big picture. The former is considered a logistical role where the latter is considered an operational role where the rigors and requirements of training established are designed to determine whether an individual has the requisite skills to close, engage and destroy an enemy and the enemy's capability to fight in the most extreme situations and environments. Thus, several points are important to consider. First is that we forget that approximately 50% of the males ALSO fail Ranger School based upon statistics reported by the Ranger School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Second, passing Ranger School does not make one a Ranger. It only means one has passed the fundamental training standards to be trained to full operational standards and capability. Training standards are tough and unforgiving given the fact that the military cannot fail when the military option is exercised by the civilian authority as the military option is the last option (in theory) utilized after economic and diplomatic sanctions against an adversary fail. Finally, what people see on the screen from Hollywood is simply a scripted narrative designed to make us believe that what is on the screen is real world. From experience, I can say this much; Hollywood doesn't have a clue. If the main character in "American Sniper" had not been a real person, it's doubtful IMHO that Hollywood would invest the $$$ to develop the story and film it much less find someone out of central casting to play the role.
  15. Gotta confess, don't know about that one. Maybe we should ask him.
  16. Go easy on our esteemed fellow skydiver Andy as he does not know the difference between gelatin and Jello.
  17. Just read FAR 105.43 and that pretty well settles it. So...if anyone wants to change FAR 105.43, it's a legislative action.

Tri-Girl, spot on about how gelatin and Jellow are different. But like I said,ya gotta go easy on Andy, he's a lawyer after all.
  19. Yes. While I know there is a possibility of "bouncing" the idea does not sit well with me so I'm going to minimize the possibility as much as possible. No. I would not like to see AAD use made mandatory by legislation or USPA requirement/directive. I think the DZO is capable of establishing the local safety measures. At the individual level, skydivers should be given that choice, after all they are taking the individual risk. I also jump with an RSL but again, that is a personal choice.

Go easy on the dear boy; we just having' fun here. Although I am surprised he doesn't know the difference between gelatin and Jello.

Good news but doubt it going to change anything.
  22. Woof! I've posted it somewhere long ago here so I'll post it again. Politicians deserve two terms. The first term in office, the second term in prison.
