  1. Where did I question feasibility? I'm just putting some raw data out there but first I must correct and an initial error. The total pressure is actually 37.4 atm or 549.8 psi adding the necessary 1 atm (14.7 psi) initial surface pressure. Bottom line: It's a very very dangerous dive even with the best technology (and it has to work flawlessly at that depth) and diver training/experience. Did the deceased have the necessary experience? Perhaps. Was there any equipment malfunction? We won't know unless we recover a body with the assumption equipment is still attached and not crushed to prevent examination.
  2. Yea, you're probably right. I would think that even with the fundamental knowledge of 1 atm increase every 33 feet then multiplying by 14.7 psi/atm, this guy would have made the intuitive conclusion that over a quarter of a ton of pressure on his body even though equally distributed would be enough to deter him. Then there is the gas demand delivery mechanism, it fails or does not deliver at ambient pressure and the problems mount.
  3. Good decision. On a similar note, was on a load with my wife and another up to 10.5 in C-182 this past weekend. At 7.5 we could see some clouds moving in and determined that by the time we got on jump run and to the initial spot, we'd have clouds to consider. We asked pilot to radio down to manifest to give them the situation and our decision, the S&TA concurred we jumped a little lower but a good jump nonetheless. The clouds did move in. Everyone made a good decision. As for the OP, great job, good thinking and when in doubt, don't!
  4. Having read your post several times. Here's my conclusion...what you wrote does not even rate fertilizer.
  5. A tip of the hat to you oh sly one! My boo boo for not clicking.
  6. Josh Duggar? You forgot Josh Duggar! Ol' Josh, in church on sunday hootin' and hollerin' about family values and cattin' around the other six days of the week. I'm shocked you and Amazon missed that one!
  7. Somewhere in this forum, someone wrote (I read it but forget where the post is) that Category E is where most students leave training never to return. I had a bad E1 jump that put me on the ground for three weeks. The next jump three weeks later was a bit anxious to say the least so I understand. In fact, everyone else posting to you understands as well. That we've all been through it may not minimize the yips but might provide some perspective that you're not alone or to put it another way...welcome to being normal. Hey, this is not a sport for everyone and the fact that you've made it this far is testament you've got a little more fire in the belly than the average person on the street. How did I get through it? One jump at a time. An application from the game of golf (which I play a lot when not at the DZ) is that the most important golf shot IS THE NEXT ONE. Accordingly, the most important skydive, is THE NEXT ONE. The ones in the log are done and nice to reflect on and the jumps a year from now? Well...they ain't happened yet. So, for me to get from Cat E to A License, one jump at a time...I did not think beyond the next jump. I took the perspective that there were many reasons to walk away from skydiving but being normal was not one of them. One last point using another golf analogy. Both skydiving and golf share another principle in that both will not define character but will certainly reveal it. Like I said, you've made it this far! Good luck!
  8. Hmmm...well let's see. Target depth of dive: 1200 feet Ambient pressure at 1200 feet: 36.4 atmospheres or 535.1 psi. So, at target depth, the diver has over a quarter of a ton of pressure on the body. Of course so does the equipment and the equipment will compress. Compressibility dependent upon material. A fitting too loose or excessively tightened or a metal/o-ring seal improperly sealed etc etc. The victim was a physician who clearly know the physiology and the physics. Despite experience and "ratings" gained over a four year period, this guy had no business attempting this dive. IMHO/ experience of 45 years of SCUBA diving myself; very bad decision thinking about it, executing it and of course, the results are what they are. The lessons for skydivers? There are some challenges that are over the "limit line" not even the "experienced" should attempt...unless they're willing to accept the consequences.
  9. Well, I hope that is made plain in the Longmount press. Sad to say but even if CQS does fork over the $$$ for court costs, you guys and gals still have one hell of a war on your hands.
  10. Amazon my dear, Ya gotta help me on this one. I mean, you as shark or gator bait is a visual I just can't get my head around.
  11. Well I'm glad you had a chuckle. If there is anything we CAN be thankful for is that the sources and methods form which the intelligence was collected are technologies. There are also human sources as well and when human sources are compromised...those sources tend to "disappear" if you know what I mean. Next time you chuckle on this, remember the human sources.
  12. Air and Space Museum a great place. If you have time, get out to the Udvar-Hazy part of the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly next to Dulles Airport. Take I-66 to HWY 28 and exit North and continue about 6 - 7 miles. The parade at the Marine Barracks is very impressive. You'll enjoy it.
  13. Unauthorized disclosure IS a violation of sections 793 and/or 1924, title 18, United States Code, a United States criminal law. This language is on all non-disclosure agreements an individual signs when they are provided access to classified information. It IS a crime. Chances are there will be no prosecution.
  14. And lest I forget...Valerie Plame, her dumbass "yellowcake" old man and Scooter Libby? Is that all you got? Amazon my dear, you're not slipping' are ya?
  15. The Executive Branch can downgrade classification. So...what's your argument. Obama has done some downgrades as well. No quarrel with a legitimate legal prerogative of the Executive Branch.
  16. Could we get off the left/right wing bullshit for this one and consider the hit the country has taken as a WHOLE. Petreus plead guilty to a misdemeanor and fined. His career is pretty much over and his ability to work in higher executive positions may be severely limited as well. It's doubtful he'll ever get a security clearance for the rest of his life so he's gonna have to enjoy his four star general's retirement. I think Petreus's compromise intelligence that was at the SECRET level. This is not to minimize his actions so much as to provide a contrast. The court rendered it's verdict and sentence. That one is over. Using validated security classification guides, the DNI IG determined that several documents found on the server contained information/data classified at the TOP SECERT level identifying the compartments of sources and methods used to gain the intelligence. This is not only TOP SECRET intelligence, it is TOP SECRET with secure compartmented information and NOT RELEASABLE TO FOREIGN NATIONALS (NOFORN) caveats. This is highly sensitive and had NO BUSINESS being on an unsecured server not rated to handle that level of classification and sensitivity. Is there a treason charge here. IMHO no, but there sure as hell is a security compromise. Accident or willful, it's still a compromise. And I'd like to think that if someone from the other side of the fence did this, we should all be just as angry.
  17. Heisnberg won't allow you to do that!
  18. What you describe happens everyday around here. I've driven in a lot of places in this country but hands down, the drivers in the National Capitol Region are hands down, batshit nucking futs.
  19. Uh oh, kallend's going quantum on us.
  20. As I said "perviously." A little bit of key board dyslexia there. "Previously" is the word I was attempting to write. Must take more time and effort to proof. HOWEVER...looking up the definition of "perviously" it's possible I might have by accident used a word that just might be fitting under certain scenarios of this horrid kabuki dance. Hey, if you get a few laughs out of it, be my guest.
  21. Things being to thin out about 6:30 PM. Sounds like you are going to the Marine Barracks at 8th and I?
  22. I just want you to make your appointment my friend. Once you drive the traffic, you'll understand I'm looking out for you!
  23. Best route is the one I provided. Given the fact that you have to be somewhere at 8 PM, You should plan to cross the American Legion Bridge at or before 4:30 PM. Tune to 103.5 WTOP FM as they provide the best information on traffic. It's August and this is vacation month around here but there's STILL a lot of traffic on the road. This is the best route to minimize driving in the District. Drive in the District ONLY if absolutely necessary. Otherwise take a cab or better yet, use the Metro.
