  1. Some people find it hard to belive that I've got custom colors on my canopy.... Yeah that's right, the one in my avatar. The coolest canopy on the dz. Allways.... Maybe I'm a little attention whore, but at least nobody can collide with me under canopy and say they didn't see me There are only 10 types of people in the world. 2. Go directly under the formation, and they will come down to you (Seriously, don't do that....it was a joke!) Seriously, some good advices here. especially to turn 90 degrees so you don't look up. To get a good dearch I find that it helps to pull in my stomach. Almost like you will croach after a hard punch in the stomach. Also remember that everybody in the formation have a responsibility to keep the fallrate up. Far to many relax way to much when they are in the formation, not helping the floaters waiting to dock at all. There are only 10 types of people in the world. 3. Thought this one could be interesting. How many people here have bought new mains. I bought my Hornet brand spanking new. So that's one. How important is it to have a new one vs. a used one? Is it worth the extra money to get a new one because of custom colors? Do you feel safer buying new? Are used ones better because your not going to have it for that many jumps before you downsize anyway? Are used ones to hard to come by? what do you think? 4. I like the ground temperature to be above 0 C (32 F) Never cared to much about what it is at altitude. Would probably jump down to -10 C (14 F) if I really wanted to jump. Anything below -20 (-4 F) is not jumpable in my book, although some people will jump then to if they can get the plane in the air. There are only 10 types of people in the world. 5. The Imax in Oslo is closed for some reason Guess I'll never get to see this movie There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  6. I'd say that they can just look at satelite pictures one hour aparte and calculate how fast its moving. Probably not as easy as it sounds. What would be fun to learn more about is local weather forecasting by looking at clouds, wind, temperature etc. and beeing able to tell how the weather is going to be the next few hour. One of the pilots at my dz can give a 20 minute call. It's raining, but by the time the plane gets to altitude a nice hole in the clouds is right over the dz. When people have landed safely it starts to rain again. Freaky... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  7. Mars has an atmosphere. Hence a canopies can fly there. When do we open a dropzone there? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  8. Congrats! There is nothing wrong with pink....
  9. I still dont get why static lines is supposed to have better canopy control than AFF. AFF open higher and get more canopy time (same amount of landings). Won't a student with 15 AFF jumps have better canopy control than a static line student with 15? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

    Another Google hack

I discovered this in the "Google me this" thread. Go to google.com. Type fudd and hit the "I'm feeling lucky". It wasn't me! Really There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  11. LMAO!!!! I wrote fudd, and hit the I'm feeling lucky button.... This is where I got redirected: http://www.google.com/intl/xx-elmer/ There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

  13. I would worry that a hard drive would not endure the beating it will get skydiving. Newer and smaller hard drives has becommed thougher over the years, so I could be mistaken. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  14. So at a 0.9 WL will a Sabre2 outperform a Stilletto??? I know there is a lot of people here having a lot of experience on both heavyly loaded elipticals and/or very lightly loaded squares. Has anybody actually flown an eliptical at a 0.8 or 0.9 WL??? I've heard recomandation that when going eliptical, don't resize. 150 saber2 -> Stilletto 150 roughly equals 150 sabre2 -> 135 sabre2 Following that logic, could we put a student with a 200 pound exit weight on a Stiletto 280 rather than a Navigator 240. ( well, maybe there is a reason why Stilletto 280's are hard to come by ) As usual I don't have a clue about what I'm talking about. This is just qustions, not answers. 15. And by the look of your avatar you just can't stop smiling.... psst...some are even with SOUND! Very not work safe There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

  18. Dear Mr. Carr Finally I’m free. It all started with some colleagues at work. We talked about maybe participating in a bicycle race. A 600-km long one, known in Norway as the great test of manhood. It was clear to me that it would be much easier to get through the race with the lungs of a non-smoker. So I decided to quit (again) sometime during winter 2004. At new years eve I panicked. The thought of going through the whole process of cutting down on cigarettes one by one until I was ready to quit was unbearable. The pain I would have to endure. I could not live with the terror of knowing I would have to go through the quitting process. I decided that this was my last night as a smoker. The first day was easy. A real good hangover from the New Year’s eve party killed most of my desire for a smoke. At least until it was a few hours to bedtime. The next days I was desperate. Even tried to get my girlfriend to break up with me. I didn’t understand why then, but it’s clear to me now. In my desperation I started chatting on some Internet message boards about quitting. Everybody talked about how great Easyway was. Sure I thought, probably as great as the products they sell on TV-shop. Yet another hoax, promising to help you and take your money. Then more and more people talked about the book. About how fantastic it was. I searched the web for negative reviews, and found almost none. Then I got an email from a friend in New Zealand recommending me to read Easyway. Now I had to read it to find out what all the fuss was about. I thought the book was a motivation book. I thought it would give me more reasons to not start smoking again. I started reading, and while I was reading it I had to fight the tears. Suddenly I started realizing why I smoked. I didn’t want to believe it. The truth was awful. I understood that I was brainwashed. That the nicotine was the drug that had done it to me. I could not imagine that it really could be that powerful. Surely it could be addictive, but no way could it mess with my free mind! I hate what it did to me. I had been living in a prison without knowing it. I was free. Almost like Neo in The Matrix. In ‘The Hitch Hikers Guide To the Galaxy’ Douglas Adams writes about a girl sitting in a cafe in London suddenly realizing why there is so much pain and misery in the world. She got the answer. She just needs to say it to the entire world, and everybody will be happy. All wars would stop. All violence would be gone…(Twelve seconds later the earth gets demolished by a Vogon fleet to make way for a intergalactic bypass, but that’s another story.) I felt like I had this kind of a revelation. Hopefully the world wont come to an end. Anyway…. I write this email to thank you, and to give you some feedback. The book worked for me, but I disagreed with some points, and I have broken one of your rules. I gave it away. I know I will never need to read it ever again. I know that. Again and again in the book you tell about how cigarettes are discusting and that they can kill you. Each time it annoyed me a little bit more. I knew that, and you knew that it didn’t matter do me. Why bring it up again and again? At about page 115 you tell the reader if he doesn’t smoke now to light up a cigarette and really notice how bad it taste. I almost stopped reading. No way am I putting nicotine in my body ever again. Not even if you tell me to. Do not tempt me. Why do you speak to the big nicotine monster in my head? Actually I’ve never thought that cigarettes has tasted bad. It can give you a bad taste in the mouth after one, but I never actually thought it tasted bad. Didn’t think that the first time either. Either way it does not matter. They can make cigarettes that taste like chocolate and smell like roses. I do not want it. One aspect of smoking you don’t deal with in your book is smoking as an image. I had made smoking as a part of who I were. Being a smoker was part of my identity. Giving it up meant losing a part of whom I were. I think you should cover a bit about how the nicotine monster not only sits in your stomach, but also infects your personality. I was never afraid of dying from smoking. It never seemed like a stupid thing to do just because I could die from it. In my spare time I like to fall out of airplanes. It can kill me, but nothing makes me feel more alive. Nothing makes me feel freer. I thought smoking made me free. I thought I was independent because everybody said to me I should stop, but I decided not to. It was a shock to find out I didn’t decide. It was a shock finding out that nicotine had taken my free will from me. It’s immensely great to have it back. It’s such a relieve to know I wont go through the rest of my life wanting a cigarette, but rather being happy not needing one. Thank you for giving me my life back. Thank you for my free will. Sincerely Lars Christian Nygård There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

    I'm done

  20. Isn't the BlueTrack an eliptical canopy. When I bought my first (used) rigg the seller tried to sell me a canopy I think was BT60 (150 sqr/f). Somehow, looking back I think I made a good call when I swapped it for an old beat-up pd 190 instead (allthoug the BT probably was worth at least twice what the PD was.) Going from 220 student canopies at 0.9 to an eliptical 150 at 1.3 would not have been a very clever thing to do at sub 40 jumps. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  21. Here is a list over the canopies I have flown. As a student: Navigator 260 Nvaigator 240 Navigator 220 Raider 220 Off student status: (round 35 jumps) Clipper 214 PD 190 (10 y.o. at least one reline. Horrible landings) Hornet 170 I now got 150+ jumps on the Hornet (loaded a little under 1.2). (230+ in total) The cool thing is that I feel I'm just begining to learn to fly the Hornet. I'm really looking forward to putting a few hundreds more jump on that when the jump season opens again here in Norway. There are only 10 types of people in the world. 24. One of the problems I see with the gun control debate is that it focused around 'Don't take away MY right to own a gun'. I'm all for gun control, but I know it's not the solution to the problem. It's more a treatment of the symptom. This might seem like a contradiction, but it's not. I ask you. What gives you the right to shoot and kill another person? What gives you the right to train for and get the means to do so? Why did you get upset with me for asking those two last questions? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  25. Yup, one of the reasons most would feel uncomfortable with this idea. Having the aad cutting your riserloops during the final hook turn could be a minor inconveniance For students under a malfunctioning canopy, freezing up not cutting away and having the cypres firering the reserve...maybe another story. Maybe the loop can be improved in some way, giving lighter cutaways. Adding a cutter might not be the answer, but maybe there is room for a little improvement. That would probably be by something more simple, not more complex. A properly maintained three ring system should be safe enough though and ensure an easy cutaway. As Bill Booth has pointed out before, large three rings are safer than mini three rings. (or have better margin of error I think don't remember excatly the reasoning...gotto do a search) There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
