  1. Where have you heard that he was released without charges? According to Norwegian newspapers he is still charged for violating gun laws, aviation sabotage and airport sabotage. He could risk life in prison. However, the investigation so far has not given reason for prolonged custody, but there will still probably be a trial. How would our world become if we don't respect a persons civil right because we suspect him of being a terrorist? Liberty for all will be hurting, or maybe just liberty for people of arabic heritage. I think it's just as much concern that the USA don't seem to respect the conventions of the international community. "Geneva convention? Oh this is not prisoners of war, they are detainees. UN wont support an attack on Irak, so what? We'll attack anyway!" This kind of attitudes concerns me. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  2. Just throwing in a few pictures too... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  3. It's so funny reading whuffo statements about skydiving. What's you're favorite? Here is one from http://www.turnto10.com/news/1693515/detail.html Skydiving is really hard. Pull to high and you will fly past the landing area... *** Warm thoghts and wish of a speedy recovery to the unfortunate skydiver! *** There are only 10 types of people in the world. 4. When I estimate a price for a complete system I usually look at each component and figure out what I would give for each. Container w/risers and pc - (hard to say, New price -20%, jump numbers, age and general condition all play a part.) Main - (Can be hard, depends on condition. Many people lie about the jump numbers! Is it someone you trust.) Reserve - (20 year lifespan Calculate from new price) Cypress - http://www.poxon.org/Craig/Skydive/Tools/CypresValuer.asp Additional stuff (altimeters, dytters, helmets, jumpsuits, etc.) Then it's not to hard to see if it's a good buy or not. Also ask someone who don't know the seller what he thinks. Look at what it costed new, and calculate from that. But remember that if you buy new you pay the extra cash to get it custom made. You have to live with whatever shape and colour the rigg and main is. Also, how much can you sell it for when you want a new rigg in two years? I paid $1300 for my first complete system. Think that wasn't a bad price, and I diveded it up something like this: Vector II -91 ($260) PD190 -89 ($130) Firelite 176R (-89) ($130) Cypress -97 (650) I really don't have that much knowledge on the subject, but this is just some of my opinions and thoughts... 5. Just supporting this statement. I've also been told to NEVER double stow the rubber bands going through the grommets, because it can cause a baglock.[/#003366] There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  6. Ok, here is an idea! What about getting a group of skydivers together. Chip in on renting an airplane for 2 months. Fly around to different DZ's and jump. Renting the plane to the DZ's we visit if possible to cut some costs. If the weathers bad, fly somewhere it's better

    my justification...

[/#003366]Ok, it's me that's whining Anyway, jump tickets are about $16 - $20 to 13000' depending on where and when. Jump tickets aren't the most expesive here, it buying the beer that costs the big bucks. Hah, I've spendt more than $250 on cases this summer , but it's been a great summer. my justification...

Stop whining! In Norway a pack costs 63NOK. That is 8.5USD and 13.5CAD. Will they rise the price to 14CAD. Wow, Canada is actually going to have higher cigaret prices than Norway! However, over here a pint of beer at a bar costs 6 USD... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  10. Aaaargh...Skymama...you are evil, evil evil I really didn't need to see that. I need a beer.... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  11. I don't believe I'm posting this, but...Maybe spending more time at the DZ bars and less time at dz.com might solve your problem....
  12. A different canopy will have a different glide ratio. However, when you speak of landing pattern, it shouldn't be that much difference. Do you get confused about the landingpattern in high or no wind conditions? I think the wind will affect how long/short you get a lot more than the canopy. Learn to fly the aproach to the landing area without your altimeter if you're still using that. Learn to spot where you are going to land if you keep your current heading. (Find the spot on the ground that stands still) Learn howto adjust how far you will get with front and back risers. Learn flat turns and how much altitude you lose in normal turns. And of course, don't do radical low turns! These are important skills to master. I'm a low time jumper to, but this is some of the things I focus on. Lately, I've been playing a bit with pulling left front riser and right back riser. This increase my decent rate, so I go shorter without increasing the speed like pulling the front risers. A little strange techniq that adds to my canopy skills. However, the biggest difference with another canopy probably is going to be how it flares. I remember going from 240's to 220 and 190's canopy. That was when I learned howto flare properly. However, that's not such a big deal as long as you remember to do a plf if you mess up you're flare. Ok, that's all the wisdome from my 75-jump-long-experience...
  13. I think I would have had some troubble hitting the landing area the first times without my alti. We don't use radios. However I can see the advantage in jumping the staticlines without. You have to learn to judge the ground by your eyes, not by your alti. I Used the alti way to long before I found out it wasn't neccesary. (1500', I'm over the landing area, 1000' I'm over the pit, check wind and fly downwind, 500' and I'm over the control point, fly in for landing.) I did that for my first 50 jumps or so, until I for some reason forgot and just landed. I remember landing and thinking: Hey, I didn't look at my alti once! However, my first landing went by the book. Flared and stood up just fine. I did head for the windsock, trying to adjust to the right all the way. Thought for a while I were going to hit it. Adjusting to the right, slight crosswind blew me to the left
  14. Falling slow is more difficult than falling fast. I have tried to slow down and get up by extending my arms and legs. Put my feet (booties) in a chaplin position and try to dearch. Mostly that techniq has slowed me down a bit, and made me track forwards having to fly back to the formation. Took forever. After my last instruction jump I was told to pull my stomack in, much the same way you would do if you got a punch in the stomack. I went low on my next 4-way, and tried that. Boom, got right back up there. Bottom line is, I think it's better to work on your techniq first before you start fixing it with clothing. Also, a good thing is to not have the heading against the formation so that you have to look up. That makes you arch, and impossible to get a good dearch. Turn 90 degrees and look at the formation you're trying to get back up to, to the side. I only got 75 jumps so far, but this is the advices that have been given to me and it seems to work great.
  15. hmm... Install a crossbraced 69sqr/f reserve and thrashpack my 290 main
  16. We don't need to say those things. You are refering to incidents where people died. Persons who had friends and family who loved and cared for them. We all would rather see that these accidents didn't occour. Rather than making cheap fun comments, show your consern for your fellow skydivers. Be a little more sensitive. We are all human, we all make mistakes and those left behind is left hurting... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  17. This was the canopy in my first rig to. Put about 30 jumps on it. It was worn out, couldn't land it so I now borrow a Clipper 190, and have no problems with it. (It doesn't have quite as crispy turns as the PD, but is lighter on the frontrisers.) Here's my advice: - Wingload below 1.0 - No radical maneuvers below 2500' When high up try - front riser turns - back riser turns - flat turns - flaring and finding the stallpoint - Radical toggel turns, explore and find the point where the canopy is about to slap you with cloesed end cells and twin. - Half brakes will recover closed endcells. - Ask experienced jumpers at the DZ any question you might have no matter how stupid it might be. - When you can afford it, downsize and buy a ZP canopy. - And most important of all: HAVE FUN!
  18. Ok There is nothing wrong with the Clipper I'm riding today. However I now have ordered this little baby. Just have to have pation now until it arrives. Just to bad it's going to be winter before I get my hands on it... It's good to have something to look forward to. What do you wait for? What do you look forward to? Tell and lets wait together!
  19. Good post, good advices. On three occasions I've had a very long spot, just like your's. On the two first, I saw I couldn't make it all the way back, but thougt I could get almost there, just land beside the runway. Both time's I ended up short, and had to take a downwinder at the very end of the runway. Now, if I see that I might/might not make it back. I find a nice place to land out on right away. There's no shame to land out, everybody does that once in a while from a long spot. Just decide in time so you can land safe somewhere out. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  20. Who in their right mind will lend him a 135? I sure would not. Nobody can stop him from trying, but the DZO can deny him to do it at their DZ. Don't lend him your 135 unless you want to feel responsible.
  21. [/#003366]hmm...sounds cool, but count me out! I'll try to remeber that if I find myself in freefall after a comersial airliner accident with only skydivers aboard. --- Hey, we forgot our parachutes. Let's build a BIG formation... --- There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

    New SETI group

Ok, I left my old boring group and joined the DZ'ers...
  23. Well, it to late for me to change the title again to "fridays funnies..." Tasteless... Anyway, I won't email the url anybody else who asks now. Just found out that the American Embassady may move in next door to me. If I keep sending out Al-Quaida terrorist urls to everybody I'll guess I'll have the FBI, CIA, NSA agents knocking down my door soon...
  24. ...ugh...that image will come to mind everytime I see the muppets again. You have destroyd the muppets....aaarrgghhh......no....my life is over.... Oh...watching the muppets will now be like watching porn. Yeah, bring it on
