  1. I am either away jumping, working, doing karate or reading and posting at dz.com. Tomorrow I'll go away jumping for a whole week (jippi!!!). I'm so glad she puts up with this, and I love her so much. I don't deserver her, I truely don't. Anyway, you probably wont here from me until a week has passed.
  2. It's really wierd that i cannot seem to find this news at any other newspapers. The paper that reports this is is one of Norways most serious newspapers, that I usually trust. The source is Associated Press. Anyway the statement of Bin Ladens death has now been withdrawn. (Damn! And I got my hopes up). Here the norwegian article. Guess it's just bullshit, and I'm sorry I posted this thread in the first place. Here is a quick translatinon:
  3. btw the al-qaida homepage is here (until it gets shut down again...): (Please email fudd for the URL - sangiro) It's in arabic, so I can't read it... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  4. According to this article the official Al-Qaidas homapage states that Bin Laden was killed in a bomb attack in Tora Bora the 9th of december last year. I haven't found an english link yet. If someone do, post it. I guess people won't send out theirs deepest sympathies because of this... Edit...changed the title....
  5. Prety much the same here...and a little extra... The wind and the noise! For some reason I had expected a nice breese, not this hard noisy wind. The secondary jumpmaster busted the exit (he hit the side of the plane (tailgate)). I looked left and he wasn't there. Looked right and the primary gave me a thumbs up and a big smile

    Home DZ

Østre Æra, Norway. DZ operates one (two during boogies) Antonov 28s. (Russian aircraft, 20 jumpers to 13000' in 10 minutes) This summer more than 23 000 jumps. from mid may to mid september.
  7. Wingload restrictions in Norway demands more than 200 jumps before I can exceed 1.1. I load 190 at 1.1 170 at 1.18 and 150 at 1.34. If I lose some weight I can go for a 170
  8. Thanks for all the info. It has helped me come closer to an understanding if the hornet190 will fit or not
  9. I think it's important to not blame the religion, but the actions. A lot of the trouble in the world would not be if people had been true to their religion. I'm not a tolerant guy! I judge people by their actions, not their belife or ethnic origion. Religion is a personal matter. Personally, I don't get it. However, if someone want to pray before they jump, I won't ridicule that and smack everyone who does. (Make fun of someones religion is an action I wont tolerate). Politics is giving religion a bad reputation, I believe in seperating them. Also, I belive a hercules should be used to drop fun loving skydivers, not bombs!
  10. Hi I know this is a bit difficult to give a straight answer to. (I also surfed some of the other pack volume posts, sorry for make one more. I didn't find any posts comparing f111 and zp pack volumes. ) Anyway, I have a Vector II, which holds a PD190(that's f111) with micro lines (or now a clipper 190 with dacron lines) just fine. (not loose, maybe a tiny bit thight but the loop can be made a little longer) I considering buying a Hornet 190 (thats zp fabric). Only problem is that I doesn't have the opertunity to try how it fits my container. I've heard that ZP fabric creates a little bigger volume than f111 because there will be more air in the packjob. (less if you are a good packer, but still more). Has anyone changed from same size f111 to same size Hornet (Or other zp canopy). Should I take my chances, buying a Hornet and expect that it will fit in my container? Since it's the same size, can I expect it to be somewhat simular in packvolume?
  11. It's really my impression that the average skydivers ain't the religous type. I've never seen God up there in theh heaven (only a few cute skydiving angels
  12. At my AFF ground training I was thaught that a lineover was a mal that we should cut away on, even though it might seem to fly you might get a suprise when the ground is comming a bit fast and it just doesn't flare well. Even though a lineover can be cleared it's much better to cutaway one to much than one to little. I'd rather pay for a repack than spending time at the ER. I was a bit suprised at first when I learned about emergency procedures. Something I believed was complicated and difficult was just simple. If you are unsure, you are sure. Cut away! --- no handles left and still at terminal, look for a soft spot! ---
  13. I had a lineover once. Watched the canopy open and saw a lineover at the left side. I believe it was over the second cell from the edge. My first reaction was "Shit, this is going to be a reserve ride..." I saw it. Looked at my alti, showing 2200', decided to try to pump the brakes once or twice before cutting away. Didn't even have time to release my brakes when the line gently slid over and I had a perfectly good canopy over my head. If I hadn't watched the whole canopy opening process, I would never have noticed. Whole process from seeing it until it was clear was maybe two seconds. I hadn't done anything different when I packed, so I'm not sure of the cause. However I believe I had developed a bad habbit of pulling the tail to violent when closing the packjob (propack) so that I might have pulled some of the lines out of place. I'm more careful with the tail now. Maybe this should be moved to the safety and training forum?

    Beer rules!!!

Hey! Its not my fault that the wind-sock at my dz is tilted, but I might just tilt it straight again some day Is there any dz with a straight wind-sock at all???
  15. Parents don't want you to skydive! This goes for almost every moms and dads out there with only a few exceptions. The reason is simple. It's a dangerous sport, and you can die. They love you and want you alive. Every time you go skydiving, they will be worried about you. There is no easy solution to this problem. They have to accept that skydiving is important for you, and you must accept that they are worried about your safety. It really sucks to know that your loved ones suffers while you are skydiving. I wish I had an answer to this problem, but I don't. I'm not saying that skydiving is more dangerous than other activities. Just that it is an extreme. We had a mother bringing her 16 year old son up to the dropzone, so he could start skydiving. She wanted to make sure he didn't end up drugs, and figured skydiving was safer. (hey, once he becomes a skydiver he'll never afford to buy drugs anyway). That's a pretty cool mom, or what? She seemed a little worried when he was up doing his student jumps, though.
  16. Depends on who "some other people" are - Familiy: Only if they are rich and I'm in their will. - Politicians:Only if he/she has broken a promise. - Lawyer: Who need'em? - Police Officer: OK! I spear the lawyer and hire him to defend me for killing a cop. - Osama bin Laden: No, why shoot him. I'd just yell "hey, it's Osama!" and let all the others have the pleasure of killing him. While the captors and other hostages are busy killing Osama, I'll escape through the door. - Priest: "Hey, wanna meet your creator?" - Jesus: He has died before, but still lives. What difference would it make? - Celine Dion: No comment. There are lot's of options. (ps. please don't take any of the above serious.)

    Beer rules!!!

Seems like there are as many different rules as there are skydivers. When do you put a case? Whats your local beer rules? I think every dz should have a poster with the beer rules written down. Myself, I think it's a good tradition and I love to put a case to celebrate being alive, unhurt, new license, etc
  19. How many times a week do you kiss your husband? Remember, this goes both ways We guys don't usually speculate so much about the meaning of small thing. If you're not getting kisses, it doesn't mean he don't love you. Just remember that men are men, and we never get you're sublime hints . Sometimes, we get tired of always being the one to initiate things. I think I've never met a man that doesn't like a sexually aggressive woman. If you want it, go and claime it.

    NEW USERS!

I've had my name and all details filled out from day one...
  21. [/#003366] WHAT? That is not good, and should not happen. I'm no rigger or expert on the subject, but it might be a production flaw. If it is, there could be more dangerous reserve pins out there. I would have sent the broken pin back to the manufacturer. Their experts can examine it in electron microscope and x-ray machines. -fudd -fudd

    Going slow...

There is a lot of posts here talking about speeding up/the base is going to slow/going low... Going fast is easy once you learn to really arch and have a good body position. What I find much more difficult is to go slow. Even more difficult is going real slow and still have good manuevers and centerpoint turns. I really suck at slow falling, so that's what I'll want to practise on my next jumps. I notice how the really good jumpers are just as good no matter the speed, and believe that is a skill everyone should strive to learn. Practise, practise, practise... I'll try to find somebody to compete at fallrates with. Both slow and fast. Sounds like fun
  23. Sometimes I think us newbies have more fun because we haven't gotten dead serious yet. (Ok, not neccesary true as some stay fun jumper forever
  24. Any kind of car that you could live in while rocking around from dz to dz

    Stealing

I hate people who steal. Who the %&#/#"(!&% is stupid enough to steal skydiving equipment they don't even know whats for. Stolen gear is also nearly impossible to sell unless you go to the other side of the globe, because the skydiving community isn't bigger than that everyone will hear about stolen gear. I heard about a skydiver being caught stealing some years ago at a dropzone here in Norway. He got banned from all dropzones in the country...bye bye we don't want you! There is one theft of skydiving equipment I heard of that I can somewhat understand. I don't support it though!!! A skydiver with about 40 jumps got his rigg and baserigg stolen. He had made a bunch of really stupid dangerous base jumps and people generally were amazed he was still alive. Guess someone stole his gear in hope of preventing him from killing himself. I only got this story second hand, so the details can be wrong(and maybe not true at all). Anyway, stealing will never be OK.
