Why not write it in Swedish so you're poor neighbouring contries could read it too . Hmm, and why don't we start speaking Icelandic all over scandinavia and start writing in runes again

In Norway we jump through clouds all the time. Of course we prefer not to (a full face helmet is recomended ) The conditions here is a little different than in many other countries. The airspace is restricted so that any aircraft comming in has to radio in and ask for permission to come in for landing. The dropzone is also at a remote location, the chances on airplanes in the airspace is close to zero. We use good exit seperation. You're not allowed to track if you can't see the runway (ofcourse we track for seperation at breakoff altitude). If you have to dump in the clouds (usually not happening because we do not jump if there are clouds below 4000'-5000') everybody does 360 turns until out of the clouds so that we're not flying all over the place in low visibility. If you are experienced you could also navigate by the sun if possible to get out of the way 90 degrees from the runway. One important thing. If you're in a cloud at deployment altitude. Do not wait until you're out of the cloud to dump. That is dangerous! -Other jumpers will have dumped and can be under you. -You can't see the ground, and you're altimeter is your only instrument for altitude. (What if it malfunctions and the clouds have dropped to 1000 feet??, maybe you just got ice/fog on your googles!) I don't feel it's unsafe to jump throug clouds at my DZ, but it's much more to fun jumping in blue skies, so I usually avoid the loads when there are clouds. Also you never know how much meat(read; ice, waterdrops) there are in the clouds when looking at them from the ground. (No fun to just have to lay on your back half the freefall screaming: MAMA IT HURTS!!! ). But if the choice is between jumping through clouds and not jumping at all, I'll jump... ---Oh, I forgot to say that the pilots use gps so they don't give us exit at a bad spot---

I have had my first reserve ride with a firelite 176. My exit weight was 200 so the wingload was aprox 1.15. As I had less than 10 jumps on my 190, my ability to flare this reserve downwind in a tight spot was close to noting. (sh"#¤%234th this is going like @£$@£$ many mph......PLF PLF PLF...shocked but unhurt) I guess next time I will make a better landing, as my canopy skills has improved a lot since that, and I hope to never get a reserve ride again. (at least for the next 1000 jumps or so...) I've heard that it's not the best idea to load your reserve more than 1.0 -fudd --- Do skydiving cat's need a reserve or can they rely on their 9 lives??? ---

This thread also caught my attention on this site. To start skydiving you need no training, just get into an airplane with a rigg on your back. Hey, and I almost forgot. If the plane drops like a stone and you do an emergency exit, the pilot will ofcourse watch closely at you when you try to pull

I think the most dangerous period of skydiving is between 30 and 150 jumps. You think you know what you're doing, and you don't expect to do a mistake. However after 2000 you are still in danger. If you fasten your chest strap 2000 times, the possibility of doing it wrong one time out of those 2000 is pretty likely to happen. We've all forgotten something once that we thought we couldn't forget. A cameraman at my dz once forgot his cheststrap once too. He had something like 1500 jumps or so. He noticed when he was tracking and felt his rig sliding off feeling his shoulderstraps down on his hand. He managed to get the rig back on and landed safely. The moral must be to allways get someone to check your gear, no matter how experienced you are. We're all human. Glad you're ok. You're probably less likely to make another mistake again, and I bet you check your chest strap at least 10 times before each jump now

Hi! Just want to share this. After getting fired, periodic controll of my car the mechanic claimed to have to do repairs for $1500 and a lot of my personal life got generally screwed up. Finally it looks like things are going my way again. Another mechanic says my car is in perfectly good shape. (I'd never use the other bastards again!) My employer had made a mistake with my salary, and I get $1100 paid back next salary. The unemployment office admits doing a mistake, and I get $2400 from them. About half of that money will disapear in taxes, but hey I can afford a new canopy

Seriously, an eight year old isn't old enough to realize the dangers of skydiving. In Norway you have to be 18 or 16 with parental aprovement. Personally, I think even 16 is a bit young. Maybe not for tandem, but at least for takeing a license. As for loving it, sure. I would have absolutely digged getting a tandem at the age of eight. I would also love to drive a car, fighter jet, bungee jump, scuba dive, base jumping and probably even would have tried landing a wingsuit. The possibility of getting seriously injured or die would barely have crossed my mind... -fudd

What about adding a field for wingloading in the profile. What size canopy one is riding really doesn't say as much as the wingload. -fudd

Just got to get this off my chest. Keiko turned up in a norwegian fjord, seeking human attention. Probably the poor animal is going to starve to death during the winter. That right STARVE! Thus has a norwegian scientist said it might be best to put and end to Keikos life. For this, american maniacs want to murder the scientist! If your dog would slowly starve to death, would you put it to sleep? Ever since keiko turned up in Norway, it's been all over the news about how ironic it is that he turns up in the backyard of the whalekillers. OK, norway has comersial whale hunting of whale species that are not at all threathend by instinction. We do not hunt the great blue whale, but some of the smaller ones. We hunt them to harvest of mother nature. We do not kill bulls in an arena for entertainment and fun. Capture and keep poor animals like Keiko in a small pool, tourturing him for years. Norwegians are a people that very much care for animals. Most farms still let the cows go outside all day in the summer. Not having them all their life in a crampy small cage. Stop harassing us for hunting whale, and don't blame us if we put Keiko out of it's misery that americans (and some other nations) has put it in. I'm probably going to get flamed for this one, just so good to get it out of my system.

It is at times like this I'm so happy to be in a steady relationship.

Hi When it comes to prices. This is the best offers I have seen. http://www.icarus.co.za/jumpsuit.asp has freefly suits for $65 (if my exchange calculations are right). This is custom made suits. I have no idea what shipping and taxes will come to, and I also have never seen one of their suits so I really don't know much about them. However, at those prices it might be worth a shot?!?

The cypress is supposed to save your life if you for some reason don't/can't pull. Maybe reading the manual would be a good idea. It is available in english, german, italian and polish versions at the airtec cypress pages. http://www.pia.com/SSK/cypres/

Here in Norway at Østre Ære DZ a jump costs at todays exchange rate $19.80 in weekends. $17.10 in weekdays. In may it's cheapest at $15.78 This is jumps from 13000' with an Antonov-28. (Dual prop turbine, 10 minutes to 13000'. Tailgate exit. It rocks!) There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

In Norway pull-out systems has been forbidden since 1986. There must be a reason for it, and probably it's security. However, I've never seen a pull-out system so I really don't know to much about them. A poll about this would be fun. Note, as a foreign jumper visiting Norway. You are of course allowed to jump with your pull-out system.

The pictures "close, almost and docked". Are they just put in reverse order or did he really dock BACK IN to the airplane??? ???? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Hi I jump the same canopy, but mine is from 1988, and has approx 350-400 jumps. I only get sweet nice openings on mine. I Propack it, rolling the front a little bit. One technic to soften up the openings is to put the end cells into the center cell. However I have been warned that this could damage the center cell. Maybe replaceing the slider with a bigger one also would help. What's you're wingload? I usually ask some of the packers at the DZ for advice. They can often give some good tips on what to do.

Can I sue the author of this game for loss of income??? Only manage to get 1026....

Hmm, I think there is times when you would like wash your container. A girl told me about one of her off dz landings. Just a bad spot, and decided to go for a farmers field. Not really a big deal. At 200' she notice this smell, the farmer had just fertilized. With all the stress of the situation (and Murphy being the evil bastard he is), her landing was less then perfect...I need to say no more...

Hi I had the aff progression and had to do level 3 like 5 times. Just couldn't keep my heading. Suddenly it all felt so natural and the rest of the levels just were easy and fun. Finished my student jumps and did 5 point on my first 4 way 3 jumps later. Once you get the hang of it, you can't believe how you could struggle with making a stable exit. And it feels so good

Hi The Norwegian handbook statess this about altimeters and repairs: I guess taking it to a clocksmith might be a good idea. He has the equipment and qualification to repair, clean and adjust it. I believe most clocksmiths also sells and repairs barometers, and the principle of an altimeter is the same. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I guess my wacky near-hurt-myself-badly landing last weekend qualifies. Since it was a beutiful warm day a friend and I decided to make a fun jump in just shorts. Now I have to tell that I had this old PD190 from 1988 which I guess has at least 800 jump on it. Needless to say, all my landings with this canopy have been crash landings. However, I thought crash-landing on the grass in shorts should be no problem. Just in case I put my gloves on and sneakers. We had a very fun jump, and i dump as normal at 3000 not far from the landing area. Now I'm thinking about where to land. The grass 10 meter before the B-line is nice and soft, so i decide to go for that. All I have to do is to HIT THE GRASS!!! Murphy and all, I find that I'm going way further than I reckond. I take a couple of S turn, but there are other's behind med. Pull a little front risers, but realize I'm still going to 5 meters above the beer line. Ok, that's where the tarmack (concrete) starts. About the only place where I definitly don't want to crash land in shorts. After about 10 meters of pavement, it's a grass spot again. Now I have to get further, and go for a little back risers until I have to flare. I land in the middle of the tarmack. Miracalusly manage to dive forwards two steps. Catching the ground with my hands first and manage to just get over to the grass and slide to a stop. Everybody wathcing sees I'm OK, and starts yelling and laughing...CASE!!! I was told it was one of the best and funniest saves people had seen, and yes I bought the beer. Too bad nobody caught it on video... There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Yep, seasons changes. So far it's been a brilliant automn. Warm and lots of blue skies. Soon the cold will set in, and not much jumping here. However it's an excellent excuse to travel abroad and visit some other DZ's Just a little 4 hour plane trip and a bus ride to Empuriabrava. When I think about it, it's not that expensive. It's more like necessity for surviving the winter There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
