200 USA/500 uk jumps to fly birdman ????
fudd replied to MrPeabody's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have limited experience in skydiving, none with wingsuits and no base jumps. However I think it's stupid to try your first wingsuit jump off a cliff. With a safety attitude like that I'd like them not to die skydivng. There is no reason to be in any hurry. Doing stupid things and die ruins the sport for everybody else. I plan to continue skydiving for more than a coupple of years, and I will pass 500 jumps one day in the not too far future. There are only 10 types of people in the world. In Norway it's 500. 500 isn't that much...unless you're planning for a short skydiving carreer. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. -
Is it really bad? A cypres isn't that expensive viewed from a TCO point of view. If you can't afford one maybe skydiving isn't for you. Here in norway it's mandatory to have either a cypres or rsl. In a perfect world, skydivining would be free! There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

If it is good business or not to loose money on one load depends on several condition. If it's been a good day with 20 loads with the plane, the DZ will still make money even if they give away one slot. It wouldn't supprise me if the 5 skydivers wanting one more load all had 10 jumps each that day. If it's good paying customers it not bad business to throw a little something their way once in a while. There is a long way from giving away a free slot, and to run the DZ out of business. Whoooooaaaaahhhh....! It's so cool to hear about your #1000. That has gone fast. It wasn't that long ago since your 100th!!! There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

It's strange how som people loose their contact easy, and other not. I had to open my visir on my Z1 in freefall due to fogging. I still kept my contacts on... Guess I may be just lucky. Anyhow, I know there are differnt sizes and types of contacts. I would suggest to ask your optician if he/she might have a type of contacts that fit your eye better. If they have no other types to offer, go to another optician. This is not an uncommon problem. One girl I know got herself a Z1, and it solved her problems. I once where the last one out on a hop'n pop load. Think I exited as number 16th 5 seconds apart at 4500 pulling straight out the door. Now that was a fun jump. Oh I forgot to mention it rained (more like poored), and I didn't see the ground until I was at 1000'. Even my underwear was wet when I landed. There are only 10 types of people in the world. My suggestion is just to delete old threads in talkback. Talkback threads that hasn't been posted to in the last three/four days isn't that interesting anymore anyway. Topical forums actually contains information, and posts should not be deleted as they often add to the value of dz.com. How long people have been members say something about how long they have participated on the site. Way more interesting than post numbers: 12 months - Regular > 18 monts - Resident >36 months - Old timer Makes more sense to me. It's kind of nice that talkback has gone skydiving for a little while. I wish I was away skydiving as well...but soon... Only opening talkback to people who pay would probably make it a private forum for a few people only. If Sangiro wants to make money he can sell the option to get your username yellow (or some other color), greenies, red hot HH and the yellows... I'll bet 100 people would buy a yellow color to their username for $15

I once began to make a spreadsheet which you can plot in the data for all your gear to estimate the resell value. Never made formulas for AAD and container, but here is the little work I did attached. To calculate main value I've considdered: - fabric value - lineset value - age depreaciation and value of custom colors - cost of neccesary repairs. I think this calculation will give a price that a seller can reasonably excpect. However I don't have that much gear knowledge. This is just based on me using my common sense. It should be possible to complete this spreadsheet and make it pretty fair. Any takers? There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Maybe swap the rank line with a "member since" line? That way we can reckognize people who have been around these forums for a long time, and those who are new. It's easy to lie about jump numbers. It's easy to post whore your post numbers up, but staying a resident of dz.com for year after year takes....uhmm...years There are only 10 types of people in the world. What is your favorite skydiving web site?
fudd replied to Rdutch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have some favorites, because I run them. forum.fallskjerm.no This is the Norwegian web forum for Oslo skydiving club, but it has users from all over the country. It's been slowly growing in users and activity for almost a year. I've learned a lot from watching dz.com growing. Looks like we might "detach" it from being a club site, and turn it into a national site. Some kind of meeting point for all norwegian skydivers...work in progress. www.fallskjerm.no This is the website for Oslo Parachute Club. It's just relaunched with upgraded design and a database driven back-engine. This site is in Norwegian, but we plan on getting up an "English info" link soon... Skydiving in Norway This is my site that is dedicated to be some kind of portal for foreign skydiver to Norway. It was initially my personal website. It's underdeveloped and could be done a whole lot better. It's in need of a complete redesign... This was a little shameless plugg , but you asked for it I know how much work running a website is, and I must say most probably don't have a clue how much work Sangiro is putting into dropzone.com. If talkback ever gets back online, maybe it should have autopruning enabled? 99.9% of talkback is just not interesting after it gets a week or two old anyway. Maybe cutting out most of the ranks. They incourage post whoring, which really isn't doing dz.com any good anymore. They're great on a site wanting more activity, but are bad when a site starts to get flooded. Autopruning might ease the workload for the moderators, and ease the load on the server to by keeping the database size down. Just my $0.02... Dropzone.com is the most complete skydiving site ever built.

I did the bridle thing too... It's quite easy....here is how What scared me is that nobody that did my pin checks caught the misrouted bridle. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

It would be cool if a european dz.com boogie could become an annual event. All dropzones in europe can apply to hold it, and who gets to hold it is decided with a dz.com vote.

Don't grip the door on exit if you enjoy using your hand
fudd replied to bch7773's topic in Safety and Training
I came close to breaking my neck once. Tail on a 4-way exit from a tailgate. 600lbs of meat in freefall trying to pull your head over a ledge is NOT something you want to try. The most scary thing was the cracking sounds I heard from my neck being bent backwards. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't. -
If so much as 5 thousand posts has been deleted, then it means that 0.5% of all posts get deleted. Sounds like we're keeping the moderators busy, eh There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

The post number 100000 from the 24th is the post id value from the database. I guess it's a normal increment, meaning that when you ake a new post the post get an id number one higher than the previous. When posts get deleted the increment don't fill up the "available" id. The number of post is probably generated from a sql query to the database. Simplified like: "how many entries in table posts". This will give the true number of posts not counting the deleted ones. If you look at the difference between total post and the latest post ID number you might get a hint to how many posts that have been deleted. (other database factors can also play a part here, so take this with a bucket of salt. I don't know how dz.com's database is really structured.) There are only 10 types of people in the world. I live in a country where something like this is so unusual it ends up on the frontpage on national newspapers. So I think I'll run away from this one. There are only 10 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

Again I'll chip in with my view. - If you get a PC in tow you probably don't expect it. - The PC in tow can be cause by several condition. uncocked pc, bridle routed wrong, pc in burble, tight pin, broken bridal, blown up pc, bridal knotted over pc... What happens from pull time? Lets say you pull at 3000'. - After 3 seconds you realize there is something wrong and start to act. You are now at about 2300 feet. - You dip a shoulder and look to clear the burble. You are now at 2000' - You try to reach and yank the bridle. This takes two seconds. You are at 1600'. Still nothing out except a PC. - Now you decide to go to EPs. Decision takes 1 second. You are at 1400' - You either cut away, or goes right for the reserve. You activate your reserve at somewhere between 1200'-1000'. Total altitude spent identifying and trying to deal with the mal: 1500' Total altidude used to initiate and execute full EPs: 500' Try the above reasoning if you open at 2500' What's more dangerous. Fireing the reserver with or without cutting away, or trying to clear a high speed mal? If you start messing with it, you will have a low reserver opening. If you should have to go for your reserve handle twice, you better have a cypres! Fatalaties are usually a chain of events. don't add links to this chain if you don't have to. Shaun Bartlett who was the vocalist in YELP who made the music for the film 1st BASE has a chance of winning a chance to play at Norwegian Wood, which is a major music festival here in Norway.
