  1. I took all the money out years ago. However, I did leave a check for the entire amount. (edited to add...) If anyone went through the trouble of hijacking a plane to get $200K, is it a reasonable expectation that they would not spend it? Leave it in a box for 30 years? No. If anybody told their kids where the money was, where the keys were, and then died... are there any kids who wouldn't drive up to Canada this evening to get the money? Maybe leave a very few as proof... ok, three. Leave three 20s in the box. Who would risk that the FBI would want the $200K back as evidence?
  2. The old woman would be dead or severely injured.
  3. When you are 85, a simple fall can be fatal, or at the least, life changing. That lady saved herself from extreme harm without harming others. Do you have a statistic that shows the number of people not killed this year?
  4. Huh... actually, that is the reason that I doze off. Not likely. Anyway, I don't plan on using it. Anyone who disagrees can read the column in this months' Cosmo called "Humorous anecdotes by female Supreme Court Justices."
  5. I did. Every f-in morning. I hated what I did for a living and where I lived and how miserable it was. That was my major reason for going to college. I dreamed of the day that I would have a job that did not involve holding a piece of metal while standing in 95 degree heat. I wanted to be able to get out of a crime-ridden neighborhood.
  6. Before being identified, "bipolar disorder" was just called "those darned redheads".
  7. The Clinton "library" is in Arkansas. It must be so confusing.
  8. The Clinton library has a humidor and really soft carpet.
  9. No matter who you ask, "Rich is anybody who makes 60% more than me." It all gets down to "disposable" income. If you make $40K a year and spend 20 surviving, you have 20 to waste. If you make $20K a year, you are eating. People who gross $20K a year should not have to pay taxes.
  10. There are different flavors of this. Kind of like, "I'm going to buy a truck." "What kind?" "What do you mean?" "What are you going to do with it?" The first two years are basics. Some good math skills to develop critical thinking skills. Some English to develop writing skills. After that, you need to take classes to enhance the career path. At some point, writing skills will become important, unless you stay at the bottom. Eventually, someone will expect a coherent email with logical paragraphs and flow. Communicating information at a higher level. I work in IT. However, I have a business background. It is necessary because I have to make the computer "do something". I have to communicate with non-technical people and understand a business application. I also have an Oracle DBA certification and a stack of other certificates. Those are "continuing" education. So, I did all routes - 4-year, 2-year, cert courses. I recommend a 2-year background to everyone. After that, courses that directly apply to a chosen goal.
  11. I spoke to Mike recently. He mentioned that he would be traveling. Are you guys pulling the Portable Palace up there? Do some rafts. Get pics.
  12. Fletcher Christian Reminds me of FC. The eventual problem is that somebody wants to be in charge of the others. So, there are examples in the past. In the present, they would want good food and shelter. There are present day examples. Communities living at an agricultural-subsistence living level. What they desire is to maintain their food supply, increase it, and move beyond constant threat. Simple uses of tools, like water wheels that are walked on to push water and irrigate more land. Simple, effective, and easy to maintain. Also, they'd want to get beyond the 2nd century medical issues like dying from a broken leg. So, I'd favor having one mechanical engineer and one agricultural expert. Get beyond the level of "one bad harvest means death". Everyone should have minimal medical training.
  13. Ever notice all the famous drivers? The guy in the BMW that drives so fast that they named a road after him? Otto Bahn. Or the guy who has 500 ft between you and him, but drafts you within 4 ft before changing lanes, like he is NASCAR? Otto's brother, Otis Bahn. Or the stunt guy? The cars are stacked up and going 15 mph, so he decides that he is above all that. He needs to get an impressive start, so he pulls the front wheel on his crotch rocket, before going 50 between the creeping cars... James... James Bahn. Met them all today. We have a hurricane going on. Lots of rain and impatience. The perfect time.
  14. Ya gotta admit, we know some freaky people.
  15. Don't worry about it. If the "bless you" thing really worked, priests would never get colds, would they? Those suckers are blessing each other every 10 minutes. They don't look that healthy.
  16. YJs love rotting vegetation. It is popular to rake oak leaves into piles around azaleas. A few inches of leaves is a prime area. If you run over the nest with a lawn mower, they become really offended. It is kinda cool watching them fling out of the mower, but it doesn't seem to damage them. They become a little madder. Many times, the next has a main exit and one smaller one. I like to hose down both exits with lighter fluid and torch it. Later, I poke around it with a shovel.

I keep 5 of the one-gallon milk jugs out in the shed. When it looks interesting, I just fill them up from the tap. I do go through the freezer and eat anything meaty and expensive. I've learned that lesson and lost a bunch of steaks.
  18. Clicky Found it. The Irish Parachute Club. What a great video. I was talking to Victoria today and she showed me the video. They had an interesting way of launching it. I learn something new every day. I am going to give it a try.
  19. I was looking for some recent raft video from the Irish parachute club. I found a link to Skyfest raft jump pics by Cajones. clicky
  20. Are you referring to THIS EVENT? It was a photographer who got stuck with the pointy end... ltdiver No, but I think that may have been a subconscious desire to get their picture taken. Photographers never get seen. clicky Can't you just imagine the judge, pointing with her toe, and saying, "I think it is going to land... here... OW!"
  21. So.. did the line work?? Kinda. My buddy waves back and says, "Hello mate". It started a conversation. The next day, one of them went out to the dz and did a tandem. Unfortunately, I was semi-unemployed and driving my El Camino. I wasn't in the target group. However, I got to spend a no-contact "friend" weekend with two hot women. My life has been worse.
  22. Recently, during a javelin competition, one of the judges was too close to the target. The javelin went through their foot. Their hiring practices should include questions like, "Do you know that a javelin has a pointy end?" So, we all enjoyed Lawn Darts. We did it as kids with the plastic ones. Let's take it up a notch. Pointy steel tips. You have to stand in the little target and dodge the darts as they land. If you get out of the circle, you lose. Or just make the javelin event into Olympic Spear Dodging. Kind of like Dodge Ball, but with more fear. No team event. Just singles. Scoring would be obvious.
  23. clicky Ever have a day when you wish you were making something up? Keanu Reeves in The Day The Earth Stood Still. Release in Dec, 2008. I have the DVD of the original version of the Sci-Fi classic. Movies released in the 40s and 50s had different characters because movie-goers had different expectations. In a 1950 war movie, people were not like Arnold. 200 people attack Arnold and he stands up and (impervious to bullets) shoots all of them from 300 yds with a pistol. In 1950, they were afraid. The characters didn't have semi-super-powers, they were more real. If characters are more real, a person can identify with their experiences. If the character is a super-hero, then it relates on a child-like one-dimensional comic book level. Which is better? That seems to be a personal choice. I watched the trailer. It doesn't look too bad. I hope that it comes out well. I would enjoy some good Sci-Fi. Movies about aliens aren't Sci-Fi. They are slasher-genre horror movies with teeth instead of machetes.
  24. Hmm... during the war. The VN war? Was someone killed? Possibly. I also read somewhere sometime that officials were killed between the years of 1 and 2008 also. Seems familiar. I have seen pictures that were not taken. I googled "vietnam war soldier picture". I got 3.4 million hits. Look through those. If you could be less specific, we'll get more hits.
