  1. Question for the drivers. Why does jump run have to be into the wind. If jump run was run crosswind on the upwind side of the landing area wouldn't it make things a little less complicated? You wouldn't have groups drifting over each other so exit timing could become a little more standardized ,and after opening you could head right for the landing area, and if your short you would make better penetration crabbing then you would flying directly into the wind. Am I missing something? Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea.
  2. Thats a lot more obvious now that they updated their web site. When I was looking last year...... Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea.
  3. They're starting to do some.Seems mostly in the what I consider the real small mains.I jump a 150 main and I can't think of any containers that would take a 45 square foot larger reserve. 5. Amen. There are a lot of newbies Would rather beat a dead horse then bury a skydiver. Very well written and informative. 9. BIC is history.Only thing its good for now is a long break during the coaches course while they spend 1.5 hours covering what took 2 days in the BIC.Might be a good thing to cover in the coaches course. 12. Do a modified Bandit jump. File a Notam and have the pilot contact the controlling agency just don't have permission for the landing area.Unless it is a large gathering that would require a waiver or creates a hazard to those on the ground the pilot should not get in any trouble.Jumpers could be charged with trespass.Maybe the BASE guys could fill you in on that. 13. So lets see.Standard rate turn 3 degrees per second.60 seconds for a 180.Downwind at True airspeed plus what ever the uppers are, give it say 30 seconds.Another standard rate turn, another jump run.Another 3 and a half minutes of operating cost. Now I have no idea what it cost to operate a Casa or an Otter, but I would be willing to pick up my share for a guarantee of my own colulm of air and separation. 15. I just got this on ebay for $45 including shipping. The chin guard is removable. Its Snell rated.I plan to mount a small bullet camera to it somehow. The reason I got it was the snell rating and when I use it with ski goggles I can mark the goggles for the sight as they tend to stay inplace with the helmet. 17. A helicopter in a ground effect hover must induce all the airflow straight down thru the rotor system. Many factors are involved such as rotor system design, winds ect. A by product of the creation of lift by the rotor system with induced flow straight down thru the rotor system is vortices on the outboard portion of the rotor blades. These vortices cause the rotor system to produce less lift.As the helicopter starts to move foward the rotor system begins to outfly these vortices.Between 16 to 24 knots the rotor disc has completely outflown the vortices and begins to produce more lift.It takes the same amount of power to hover a helicopter as it does to climb. An out of ground effect hover requires even more power and creates even larger vortices. My 2 cents. Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea.

  19. especially if its a small helicopter.Aerodynamics, its just like a balloon jump except you get to exit right over a landing area that the pilot picks, not Mother Nature.
