I'll comment ... Hey, it's the freaking 21st century. Jumping a 7cell feels like it's 1983 again (yes, I was jumping then). They open nice, but they glide like a wounded duck and flare like a barn door. There are a number of modern 9cell parachutes that open well, fly well and land well. If fewer cells actually equaled better flight characteristics, we'd still be jumping 5cell Paraflite Stars and paragliding canopies wouldn't have 21 or more cells. If you're base jumping, toss all this out the window and get yourself a minimal performance 7cell (you need it), but if you're skydiving, you've got more choices. Jump them all before you buy! BTW, if all your buddies are having off heading openings, why would you buy the same parachute as they did?
-
Swooping, huh? I love that stuff ... all the flashing lights and wailing sirens ... it's very exciting!
-
I love my Pilot! Soft, on-heading openings (unlike the Sabre2) and honest-to-gawd 9 cell performance and landings (unlike the 7 cell Spectre or Storm). What's not to like? +3 for getting much more experience before putting on the wingsuit Scott

Don't go big wing early (or at all depending on your wing loading). And never buy before you fly. There are lots of demo suits out there that you can try when you're ready. Scott

Is it just me, or is this thread WAY off topic?

High Altitude Loads Saturday and Sunday 8am briefing, 8:30am takeoff. Pre-manifested the day before, no show – no refund $59/slot to 22K’, and max 16 per load Overall Plan After all the big way activity that's gone on over the past few months, we're pretty sure that everyone would have a better time if we concentrate on smaller dives ... as in an Otter full. So, depending on the number of people that show up, we'll be splitting into x number of groups so that each group can concentrate on the skills they need to acquire. Let's not call it a skill's camp, but you get the idea. Let's hear your thoughts (if you're coming). Scott

The suit I had is a Phantom2 pre-production prototype with several refinements, but I'll let Robi chime in about the design details. Suffice it to say that the suit is FAST forward. We had some folks who didn't have the drive I have, and it took several jumps for me to dial in the forward speed so they could stay with me. But the suit isn't just sliding down the hill, vertical speeds are low too. One of the first flocks was nearly 130 seconds. Again, it took me a few jumps to dial in a more flockable speed. JONER can chime in about what it's like to flock with me when the suit is really maxed out. BTW, this is the suit I'll be wearing at F&D5.0 Scott

Everyone, I would really encourage everyone to check out Scotty and Matt's web sites and PURCHASE some prints. These guys spend a ton of money and time developing their skills and equipment ... if we want to see them continue to do so, we need to support them. Getting a few photos in a magazine isn't as lucrative as you might think it is. Check them out! http://www.sky2productions.com/component/option,com_expose/Itemid,58/ http://www.matthoover.com/gallery/skydiving-photos/2009-02/

To all of you who didn't make it to the event .. you definitely suck. To all of you who did ... what a great fckin time. The weather was great, the people were great, the beer was cold .. it just goes on and on. To Viv and Jason, thanks for all the hospitality and hard work. It gets better all the time. To Justin, Scotty and Matt ... thanks for being there and doing what you do best. And we all came home safely (with maybe a few bug bites). To all the flockers who showed, and especially to the new folks I just met here, thanks for coming! I hope you had a great time and can make it next year. And I know that all the folks who jumped with me know the rule about getting out ... (unless you're on the outside of the door) ... The images that etch themselves in your mind aren't always the ones you expect, like the gorgeous clouds, beautiful coastline, perfect sky. This time two images will stay crystal clear for me ... * The look on the rum guys face when Supergirl flashed him (twice) out of nowhere for a bottle of rum * The close-up drunk faces of Justin and Scotty as they dry humped me out of a sound sleep Good times ... good times ....

It's not the only time I've found myself on top of Jeff ... at least this time I wasn't in the process of throwing my PC ... Note the water bottle to the left of Jeff's head in case he gets thirsty during the dive ... Nice pics, Matt! Let's hope those clouds give us a break!

A short RealPlayer ( http://www.realplayer.com ) video of gathering clouds outside my Florida window. Actual time was around 30 minutes.

Girlfriend says parachute must go ... For Sale: One slightly used girlfriend. Warm weather, free beer, free rum drinks, bitchin' flocks, great scenery, beach jumps, catered party ... if you aren't there ... YOU SUCK! If you can't make it, you can think about us enjoying the beautiful Caribbean weather this coming week. No, we won't be sitting in an ice cold cubicle working for our pointy haired boss ... no, not THIS week we won't! Scott

FYI Viv tells me that there will be high altitude loads Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the possibility of a back to back load on one of the days ... as long as they have O2 available, More info soon. Scott
-
Viv wanted me to make some apologies for not getting the high altitude jump to be all-wingsuits. It just wasn't fair to the other folks at the boogie. I'll ask her if there will be any other chances for a high-altitude load. Scott

That cop was hot. Scottie, you said that you wouldn't publish that pic if you could have a little Jeffie next!

I wanted to re-post this for your consideration ... Some last minute items to think about: I hate to travel on commercial flights with my gear, but both USPA and Cypres have some hints for making it easier (below) ... Remember to put your hook knife in your checked bag as well as your personal flotation device, if you bring one. PFD's are not required for beach jumps, but while "life insurance" only pays when you're dead, this investment pays off when you live. I wear one for the beach jumps ... Cabela's has them (below). Airlines are also being real dicks about the weight limit on checked bags. Weigh your bags when you pack them, or, like a fat girl who wants sex, be prepared to pay (giggity). http://www.uspa.org/USPAMembers/Membership/Travel/WithintheUS/tabid/311/Default.aspx http://www.cypres-usa.com/AirTravelUpdate.htm http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0043183943220a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=flotation&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D:hasJS=+&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1

Moonglo had a PC malfunction when her hackey handle went through one of the holes in the bottom of the PC. Of the four holes, it was the only one large enough for the hackey to enter. So I switched to a PVC handle with a piece of webbing end to end to prevent any snags. Then I rolled up a piece of foam, sprayed it with hair spray to be sticky and jammed it inside the handle. I don't like it when my fingers got inside the handle at pull time. Scott

2 WEEKS TO GO! I CAN'T WAIT! Updating the list to account for some drop-outs. Tony has some shoulder issues, Gray Mike can't escape from work and Stoney won't bring his son to PR

BTW, Rob told me that the registration will be on www.baserigs.com starting February 1st.
