Labor Day weekend Turbine C-16 Caribou weekend at Z-Hills
notsane replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I'll be there! -
Zack is correct ... Sorry Tero. There's just too many other events running at nearly the same time this year. Count on a rejuvinated 5.0 in Spring 2009! Scott

Flying past a cloud will give you the same visuals as flying past a shear rock face. But a cloud will gently part as you fly through it by mistake. *You* will flow not-so-gently around the rock if you try to fly through it. Push the limits. Pay the price. It's a law of nature I'm afraid. A great jump is one that you can go do again. IMHO Scott

Hey ... concerning storage ... if it's a suit that's not on my rig, it usually lives, rolled up, in some kind of bag. Roll the suit up with a dryer sheet in it to keep it smelling nicer. I do the same thing with my helmet to keep it from smelling funky (since you can't help but sweat in it here in Florida). Just stuff a dryer sheet in it when you close it up in the helmet bag. If your suit has mylar ribs and you're worried about storage, simply sell the damn thing to someone else before the mylar breaks (because despite your best efforts, it will)

I have washed *all* my wingsuits a number of times. Cold water, gentle cycle, 1/2 the usual amount of detergent, hang dry on a plastic hanger. Lay a towel under the suit (because it's going to drip) and let a fan blow on the suit to speed the drying process. Once dry, I use about 1/2 a can of ScotchGuard to restore some of the "crispness" to the suit. It also helps stop stains from becoming permanent. If you spray too much ScotchGuard, it will leave a chalky residue as it dries, but a quick exposure to freefall will remove most of it. Spray until the material is slightly wet, and allow for plenty of ventilation ... the solvent in ScotchGaurd is really potent! BTW, while you're at it, it wouldn't hurt if you smelly f**ks considered taking a bath too. Or maybe even a high colonic. Inside and out ... you people stink!

An "all POPS" formation at the next get-together isn't a bad idea. Make sure you get your POPS number beforehand! Gorgeous video ... what a cool place to wingsuit! And Tony ... dude, you are the shits! I expect Jeff to backfly like crazy, but you were sure holding your own (for an old dude) Scott

A few weeks ago I got 160 seconds (2 min 40 seconds) with my Stealth from 13,500'. At the time I was 208 pounds naked. I've lost some weight and I'm trying for another "best" tomorrow. BTW, some of the old Pro-Track's top out at 119 seconds of freefall, telling you that it's time to buy another device.

oooo ... Jeff likes relish ....

I should be there before lunchtime on Friday.

Testing of new SUPER XS= astonishing results
notsane replied to PhoenixRising's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I don't know about the ascent speeds, but I have watched Jeff in his suit, ascend against the horizon for 5 to 10 seconds while I was under canopy. I've seen a lot of people slow down big-time, but this was the first time I'd actually seen someone go up. Astonishing. -
Very nice job, Matt! I'm liking that Ramones stuff too ... I wanna be sedated!

What do you think of the Phoenix Fly Stealth WS?
notsane replied to newone's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I'll take a stab at why everyone was flying slow forward ... because that was the rate I set and they were flying relative to me. I know it's hard for folks to get their heads around this, but the base has to blindly set the rate for the flock unless they're back flying. With a handful of people the base can look around, see that it's too slow and speed up, but with 16 or 20 people, that option doesn't exist. I love to bust it out as much as anyone else, but I'd rather have everyone in the flock rather than leaving folks behind. I've seen photos of, and been in small flocks where everyone is busting it out. But other than one sponsored team who were all wearing the same suits, I've yet to see a large, tight flock where everyone was busting it out ... there are too many variables with weight, size and suit type. But, IMHO, there are folks wearing the wrong suit to flock. If you're a skinny guy in a huge suit trying to flock with your hands on your ass, it might be time to add a smaller suit to your collection. There are several suits out there that can't slow down without sinking out ... and there are suits that can't fly throughout the range without flapping themselves to death ... these aren't good flocking suits. It's all similar to the RW guys. The base has to set a rate that allows everyone to fly within their comfort zone. If we were as organized as the CRW guys, we'd swap suits around so that everyone was even. -

FYI ... those aren't thumb loops. They're supposed to go over you hand. Maybe that's why they seem a little long ... -
Spray the stains with Shout or some other pre-treat, wait for 30 minutes max, and wash again on cold/gentle cycle. Get the suit out immediately and hang-dry.

Rockin' shots, Matt! You make us look good. Watch out for those TWAT guys ... something smells funny about them ...

I consider myself very fortunate to have witnessed Stoney's triumph. It was a perfect spot as well!

Finally the Mach 721 comes to light!
-
Maybe it's just me, but it's a little disturbing using the words "impregnated" and "Campos" with respect to my new suit. Maybe I should wash it now ...
-
Please don't use language like that. I find words like "job" and "work" offensive.

Macca! I was waiting for someone to call me on that! I work out of my house, so technically, this is a coorect photo ...
