Yeah we need more lawsuits. Oh, the horror of having to endure a sixty second prayer! I am sure the atheists will need years of psychotherapy to overcome the ordeal. Yeah, I don't think there is any point in suing the school, since they did cancel the prayer. It's unfortunate that many of the "Christian" students then chose to behave in an un-Christian manner. Too bad this has to be such a game.

Most people are kept pretty ignorant (and often biased) as children in that they mostly learn about whichever religion their parents are. As adults, we choose our religion or lack thereof. If we continue on with our parents' religion or lack thereof, it is either because we have informed ourselves and chosen the same path, or it is because we have chosen to remain ignorant.

Yes to the first part and It can be the same for the second part I am commenting on this particular story. The kid was not disrespecting others' beliefs; he was asking that the school follow the law. He got ganged up on by the Christian majority in the school. Yes, people of all beliefs, whether in a majority or minority, can and often do disrespect others' beliefs.

Rather than having a Christian prayer (which, in this case, was basically just giving the finger to anyone who didn't agree with it), why not just have a "moment of silence" where every student can pray or not pray as they choose? This is a public (not Christian) school, after all. I don't think I have an intense hatred for religious people, but I do relate to this kid because I have often felt alienated by the Christian majority "team" who would rather "win" than respect others' beliefs.

That's funny; I always thought that that was an indoor climbing wall in the picture with you. But now that I look more closely, I see that it's stars and moons and such.

I watched that recently. Didn't really like it. I guess I was expecting it to be scary and/or suspenseful or something, but mostly I was just bored with it. I liked some of the dance scenes though.

I always figured, if the Abrahamic God actually existed, he would probably know when we were lying to him.

Be careful with that. If your karma is bad, you might be reborn as a hungry ghost.... or as a little dog whose owner makes him wear sweaters and hats.

I like the happy girl face on the bidet button. :-D

Wow! Just checking in. This is the most heretical statement in here in a while. I mean, it is in essence what the secular humanist believes but startling to see the blasphemy plainly stated. I think secular humanists generally discard the whole concept of God. But there are a lot of people who consider everything to be a part of God, which is what I thought Jim was referring to.(???)

Because they don't need to impress anyone with what they're drinking?

If I had a personal experience that convinced me that one of the religions was "right" regarding the existence and nature of a god(s), then yes, I would change my beliefs. But I don't think I'll hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

The quotation marks around his sig line indicate that he is quoting someone else.

Wow, I never knew that I was in a minority with my "zip then fasten" technique.

Oh well, when you put it like that... I'm sure that many predators will realize the error of their ways and quickly seek some sensitivity training. I don't get the impression that it is aimed at rapists. It appears to be aimed at people who would blame the victims for being raped.

Oh. Thanks, I forgot that one.

"I am the lord your god," "no gods before me," etc., would not make much sense without particular religious beliefs. Actually, those specifics might be the cause of certain problems.

A warm gun.

I think the more important question for you is, "What would _she_ look past?" But, you know, that's true for all of us.

Like you said, you haven't yet watched the videos I'm not being facetious here - the speakers point out a bunch of things that surprised them - I was pretty much surprised by the same things. Seriously, watch the videos, you'll see what I mean - I don't want to spoil it, or just repeat what they say... Besides, they say it much better than I could
