  1. I just saw this while looking at USPA's website:
  2. I agree with this, at least in the areas I have lived the most (So.Cal and Austin,TX) My white male friends who have long hair and tattoos definitely have more of a problem being "profiled" than any of my more conservative-looking non-white friends. And I had an interesting experience with the appearance thing myself... I usually look pretty "normal" and don't get much attention from salesclerks or anything, and had never even thought about it... But one Halloween I temporarily dyed my hair a dark puplish/black that made me look like a goth or something... And for the two weeks that it was black, every time I went in a store it seemed like the clerks were (noticeably) keeping an eye on me. Not sure if they really were, but it sure seemed like it.
  3. That's true... But all it would take to reduce the number of animals being euthanized would be for people to spay/neuter their pets, or to not get pets if they don't have the time for them. Oh wait, that's not as easy as it sounds - expecting irresponsible people to suddenly become responsible.
  4. I would like to see the book. I'm not going to buy it though, so it'll have to wait until I run across a copy. When I first started looking for info on the web, I was bombarded with websites trying to sell me the book. I know I'm a skeptic, but when someone is making money off of some "amazing phenomenon", that brings up a red flag right away as to it's validity (not that it always means it's invalid). The link that dbattman provided about "Moby Dick" was pretty interesting... If the Bible Code was done in the same manner, then it seems (to me) to be purely random chance (but I'll hold off from forming a solid opinion on that until I actually see it). Does he say what his religious beliefs are? And has this discovery changed his beliefs in any way?
  5. Yeah, I think that has brought up some questions about our appeals process...
  6. Wow, that is cool! My 12-year-old nephew is into breakdancing. He's pretty good at it... He recently went to his first school dance, and that was the only kind of dancing he did.
  7. Ha Ha... Here's a link about it (for anyone who cares): http://www.capitalnews9.com/content/headlines/?ArID=113994&SecID=33 Looks like the last one before that was three years ago...
  8. It's not my favorite Manson song, but I do like it...
  9. "It's all relative to the size of your steeple." Oh, and soulshine: I forgot, I do sometimes wish bad things on Remster... but I think he likes bad things, so it's ok.
  10. "Pro choice" usually refers to abortion, which is considerably different than having a vasectomy or having your tubes tied (which would be more equivalent to having pets spayed or neutered). I have my cats spayed or neutered, not for their own benefit, but for the benefit of the hundreds of offspring they might produce if I did not. And I would never have my cats declawed...
  11. Oh, ok... you sounded a bit serious. I have plenty of insecurites too, but I never wish bad things on others because of it... (I've met a lot of people who do though! ) Sorry if I misunderstood your original post... I hadn't had my coffee yet.
  12. I see this sort of statement a lot, and every time I see it all I can think is... Are there really that many people out there with no common sense??? (And if there are, it seems like they shouldn't be jumping out of an airplane in the first place!) If I decided I wanted to learn how to snowboard, went to the mountain and met one person who had been snowboarding every day for five years and one who had learned how to snowboard two days ago... I might ask advice from both of them, but I would assume I could put a lot more trust in the advice from the person who had a lot more experience. Seems pretty simple to me. When I have a problem, I try to get information from as many sources as possible so that I can make an informed decision on my own, especially with something as dangerous as skydiving. To me, that just seems like common sense...
  13. Why do you even care??? I'm pretty far from being a perfect person (and I'm pretty sure there is no one who would consider me to be), but... I've had people act jealous of me before - not very often, but it's happened... And I'm thinking what the hell is wrong with this person? They obviously have some strange delusion that my life is somehow better or easier than their's, for whatever reason, but they must be incapable of looking beyond the surface of things... Anyhow, most likely the people you perceive as "perfect" are actually not... but who knows, maybe some of them are... Even so, why let it have any effect on you??? Don't worry about what other people are doing... Just try to make yourself the person that you want to be, whatever that might entail...
  14. Yes I know... But when someone says they don't believe in the Big Bang theory because what came before it cannot be explained... it sounds kind of odd when they say that they do believe in God (when the origin of God cannot be explained either). I mean, if he believes in God and he believes that the Big Bang theory has been proven to a certain point... then wouldn't it make sense to believe that the Big Bang really did happen and was all a part of God's plan?
  15. I am interested in reading the book about the Bible Code... Perhaps I will when I have time. I have read the Bible in its entirety. I went to church at least once a week until I was 15 years old. I have never believed in God (especially in the way "he" is presented in the Bible), and the more I learn about it only goes to further my disbelief. But I mean no disrespect to your beliefs...
  16. That doesn't explain anything. You can believe that "God is", but it still doesn't explain what God is or where it came from (though not being able to explain it doesn't necessarily mean that God does not exist).
  17. That's interesting... My teacher seemed to actually believe this book... He also mentioned that he believes in God and that he doesn't believe in the Big Bang theory... his reason being that no one can explain where the stuff came from that caused the Big Bang... which is a legitimate argument... but, umm... Where did God come from??? I can see I'm going to be arguing with him a lot this semester...
  18. Ah, so they were not exact predictions... cryptic messages open to interpretation... That says a lot. Always a convenient message to include when you are claiming to predict the future. That way, if something doesn't match the prediction, it is because we did whatever needed to be done to change it.
  19. Can anyone who has read this please explain it to me? One of my teachers mentioned it yesterday, so I tried looking it up... but my attention span is too short to read all the stuff about it (couldn't find anything clear and "to the point")... and my skeptical nature immediately cries BS... but I would like to understand a little more about it before completely dismissing it.

    DZ.com flirting

Okay, you found me out. I don't look anything like my avatars Yeah, I don't look anything like my avatar either, but I put it there to trick people into thinking that's really me. Oh, and I have never flirted on dz.com... ever!
  21. Happy Australia Day!
  22. I think it would be much _more_ fun... The danger aspect of it never had anything to do with why I liked it. I could accept the danger that was involved, but I don't think it was ever part of the attraction.
  23. This is the only one I have. (Beavis)...
  24. I had a midlife crisis when I was 25... So I gather from that, 25 must have been the middle of my life and I will therefore die when I am 50.
