Hey Lisa, 1.) That sucks. 2.) The police might actually do something about it if you contact them with the information you have... I recently got a letter from the sheriff's office in Long Beach saying that I needed to contact them about a reported hit & run. After calling them, it turned out that someone had reported my license plate # as a vehicle that had hit their parked car and drove off. I described my truck to the detective (and had to send him pictures of it) and it didn't fit the description they had, so they must have written down the wrong license plate #... but the point is that the police were actually doing something about a minor hit & run. So it might be worth a shot...

Ah, poor Muffin.... Aren't you supposed to be sunshine's boy toy?
-
Thanks, Nick. The check's in the mail...
-
Probably not too far from you... But you better be careful... I'm a lot meaner than I look.

No! Not the soap again! I prefer the belt...

In college? What are you doing for springbreak?!?!?!?
Shotgun replied to kansasskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I'll probably be going to Texas over spring break. (Hmm, thanks for reminding me... I should probably buy a ticket soon while they're cheap.) Not sure if I'll be jumping or not, but if I am it will be at San Marcos. (I've been feeling really homesick for Austin and for Skydive San Marcos!) Wow, it's weird going back to school now that I'm older (33)... It seems strange talking about things such as "spring break"... Oh well, I feel like a kid again, and that's not such a bad thing... -
Oh, and thanks... Now I have that stupid song stuck in my head...
-
Ok, I'll be there to pick you up... Oh, and I think I saw that rabbit's bunghole. Now I'm disturbed.

And I feel like being beaten. Especially after watching that cartoon...

Well you changed the context from "reality" to "imaginary"... You made a statement that was supposedly based on reality: and I asked you questions regarding that reality... but then you answered me with a response based on some made-up world... (meaning you didn't actually answer either one of my questions) Oh well, not much point in continuing that discussion if we can't keep it in the context of "reality"... I'm not really interested in your imaginary world that you've somehow concluded that others would prefer (where men can draw unemployment infinitely, but women immediately have to take a job as a prostitute if they are unemployed - wow, talk about twisting things around...). The reality is that there are jobs out there. The government doesn't force you to get a job. LIFE forces you to get a job, or at least to figure out how to take care of yourself. As an adult, it's your responsibility; it's not society's responsibility to take care of you. Getting money from unemployment for a whole year is a pretty damn good deal; asking for more than that (in most cases) means you're expecting other people to take care of you rather than taking responsibility for yourself. (IMO)

I took my mom to eat there when she was visiting. The food was really good, and they had a nice atmosphere. Oh, and they had yummy flan... I love flan. And the Old Town area (where it's located) was pretty interesting too... There's a really good Thai restaurant somewhere around where Rich used to live (La Jolla), but I can't remember the name... all I remember is that it had funny sculpture-type things hanging from the ceiling (or something like that)??? But they had the yummiest fresh spring rolls and pad thai... (Anyone know which restaurant I'm talking about?)

That's odd, I've never heard of anyone (male or female) being allowed to stay on unemployment infinitely (not in the US anyway - I assume you meant the Bay Area around S.F.?)... I guess those IT workers didn't mind being out of work then, if they were allowed to get benefits for years until the perfect job popped up???
-
Don't be corrupting my sweet and innocent man! Nevermind that he's already corrupt...
-
Ah, ok... Well I'll have to see if I can talk you into taking me to a good restaurant sometime.
-
Ok, now you've got me curious.... are gay neighborhoods known for having good places to eat?

What is the technical possibility? That by having prostitution legal, the government can somehow force women into taking a job as a prostitute? Strip clubs, pornography, and prostitution are all legal in certain parts of the US... but I don't think I've ever heard of anyone being forced by the government into any of those jobs. I don't know the law... perhaps it includes something to keep morally-questionable jobs from being offered to people through the unemployment program??? (But if that's the case, who decides what is morally questionable???)
-
Were they given the opportunity to stay on unemployment infinitely, until the perfect IT job came up? Did some of them have to take less than ideal (non-IT) jobs to get by for awhile? I have never drawn unemployment, but I'm pretty sure that in the US they will not allow you to draw unemployment for more than a year... so I guess that means that the US is forcing people into taking whatever job is available once their benefits run out... Wow, forcing people to take responsibility for themselves, what a concept. As I said before, I'm sure there were plenty of other jobs available to her other than prostitution. The story doesn't mention how many jobs she turned down during the year that she was receiving unemployment benefits... And from the snopes link that AndyMan posted, it doesn't sound like this "news" story is completely accurate anyway.

It's not like they are keeping her as a slave and forcing her to have sex with anyone. They are taking away a benefit that she has already been receiving for a whole _year_. If she was working in IT before (which requires at least a reasonable amount of intelligence), and she's had a whole year to think about it, I'm sure she can figure out a way to support herself other than living off unemployment or working as a prostitute. No one is forcing her to do anything... (I mean, come on... there are no grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, receptionist positions, nurseries, anyone other than a brothel that is hiring people in Germany???) Personally, I think the government should simply not extend unemployment benefits past one year. I bet if that was the case, she would have somehow managed to find a job by now.

I just got a call that I have wanted for 35 years
Shotgun replied to Duckwater's topic in The Bonfire
Wow, that's really cool, Mike! -
Yeah, you're probably right. Funny how those strawberry margaritas work...
-
Those are great pictures... Looks like I missed out... You girls are perverts wanting them to take their g-strings off... Geez, settle down.
-
Well... Was the show good??? From the adverts I've seen, they look very... umm, talented...
-
Does that mean that you had three whole beers? I'm sad that I missed the Thunder From Down Under show... I've been wanting to see that (and for some strange reason, Rich never wants to go with me!)... Was the food at the Fix any good? I've been disappointed with most of the restaurants I've been to in Vegas, so I'm curious to know which ones are good... Sounds like y'all had fun... wish I could have gone... but it was a good thing I didn't, as it turned out I had a lot more homework to do than I had realized! Oh well, maybe next time...

I have no problem with prostitution, and think that it should be legal... If someone wants to trade sex for money, that's none of my business... but I don't think anyone should be forced into it, for any reason... But I also have to wonder how she could be out of work for a whole year without being able to find any other kind of job??? In fact, I don't really think the unemployment system should be supporting someone for more than a year anyway... There are jobs out there, but too many people either want to milk the system or don't want to take a job that is "beneath them" - in which case I think that's their own problem, not mine.

That's what a camper shell is for. I have found my pickup to be far more useful than any of the cars I ever owned (which is why I bought it)... except when I need to transport more than one passenger. (If I buy another one, I think I would get one with a backseat.)
