Ruth's Chris Steak House is really good. I've only been to the one in Austin, but there is one in Houston too.

Language is firmly grounded in common experience. OBEs, in general, aren't common experience (though it's much more common according to this poll that I expected). Yes, language is grounded in common experience, which is why an OBE is hard to explain. But if you have experienced an OBE, then you understand. And, according to this poll, many people have experienced OBE's, so they're not so special.

We've been thinking of going out to Catalina for a couple of days. It's so close by, but I've never been there... Any suggestions for the best stuff to do? What is the best way to get out there (plane, sailboat, ferry)? Any preferred spots for hiking, kayaking, camping? Good restaurants? Hotels or Bed & Breakfasts? (Not sure if we want to camp while we're there.)

Bangkok Chef in Temecula, CA. We eat there about once a week. They have the yummiest Thai food, and the owners are always friendly.

I have had several... always associated with the "awake during sleep paralysis" dreams that I have (which I started a thread about once before...) They have happened when I have had a series of these dreams and find myself able to control them to some extent. I will choose to ignore whatever "scary" thing is going on in the dream, and then suddenly I will find myself floating above the bed - looking down at my body asleep on the bed... I'll have a very clear image of myself and the room... And then I'll leave and start floating through the house - it's all so vivid and "real"... It truly feels as though I am experiencing my surroundings without a physical body. It's hard to really explain though...

Wow, I just watched this movie for the first time. KKK as the heroes that save the day??? The creepy thing about this film is that it is done in a manner to imply that it is historically correct... And folks in 1915, not being accustomed to watching feature-length fictional movies, might not have understood that this was "just a movie." Interesting though... I did manage to stay awake through all 3+ hours of it... perhaps only because of its disturbing quality.

Are you cheating on me again??? I am so crushed... I don't have any plans for this weekend, except I'll probably do a lot of homework and try to get the house cleaned up a bit... maybe go to church on Sunday. Oh, and I discovered a nearby park that looks perfect for kite-flying, so I'll probably do a bit of that... and some hiking too. I want to go camping this weekend, but I don't have anyone to go with me.

Yep! Other than the mating dance, the actual "doing it" part lasts about three seconds. And then the dude flies off and leaves the female to take care of the babies all by herself. Male hummingbirds are assholes.

great pic! i wonder if it's theire mating season right now... will have to keep my eyes pealed for "humping hummingbirds." They do seem to be mating right now, especially the last few days... I keep seeing them do their little "dance" outside my window. Then one of them will fly down to the ground, and the other will fly straight up and then dive-bomb down to her... This all happens so quickly though; by the time I run downstairs I only get to see them flying away. At least I'm getting a lot of exercise from it though. (And of course, I could just be seeing territorial males fighting with each other... It's often hard to tell the difference between mating and fighting.)
