I'm reading A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. It's a great book, and his writing cracks me up. It's about his attempt (with a very out-of-shape partner) to hike the Appalachian Trail. I'm almost finished with it though, and then I've got about twenty other books that I want to read right now...

No. I'd probably feel amused, but not alienated.
-
Right, but the point is that they have a reason for doing it, and that reason is not to alienate others.
-
I doubt that a group of skydivers who are praying together would be doing so just to alienate others; they would most likely welcome anyone who wanted to join them. If you saw a group of people doing yoga together at the dz, would you think that they were doing it just to alienate others?

Evolution does not equate to us being here for no reason at all. -

For a little while... until the effects started wearing off and I came to realize that I had drank that dang belladonna tea again. -
At the churches that I (occasionally) go to, most people don't get dressed up.

Yep, and now I can't quit singing that song.

This might answer your question: http://education.yahoo.com/reference/dictionary/entry/religion The word "religion" means far too many things for me to choose one of the options in your poll. Religion can be good or bad, or neither; it depends on what sort of religion you are referring to.

Personally, I don't believe in God. I have no evidence to prove that God does not exist, so my belief (or lack of) is based on a feeling. I don't think that it is possible for us to ever fully understand the world we live in. There will always be unanswered questions, so there will probably always be people who attribute the unknown to the work of a god of some sort.

What is atheism based on?
-
Any examples? I only ask because I've seen him accused of irrationality by some simply because a) He used the word 'probably' in the statement "Jesus probably existed" and b) His definition of "reputable biblical scholar" wasn't "One who believes the bible is the true and inerrant word of God from page 1." I have been thinking about reading this book too, but his attitude is a bit off-putting to me. Here is an excerpt from one of the interviews with him that knocked this book further down on my priority list of things to read: (interview from here: http://www.salon.com/books/int/2006/10/13/dawkins/) At least he cites evidence, but I question the results of the study he mentioned. And I don't like his attitude of atheists being "the elite." And I have heard him put Christians down for believing in something without proof (the existence of God), while he himself also believes in something without proof (the non-existence of God). That sort of irrationality makes me less interested in hearing what else he has to say.

I see that my photo of the men's restroom has you intrigued. There's a vegetarian restaurant called Mother's that is near the observatory. A lot of the sport bikers go there because they like those roads, so there are lots of guys (and a few gals) in cute leather outfits. Oh, and the food is really good there too.

You could take the S6 up Palomar Mountain and come back down on the S7. It's a beautiful drive and a nice winding road. (But that's only a short trip from San Diego.) And, speaking of men's urinals, you could stop at the Palomar Observatory while you're up there; the restrooms are nice. Look, I even have a picture...

Were you smoking in the boys' room again?

I've had some really good fruitcake, and I've had some that wasn't so great. I guess it depends on how it's made. I usually like Stollen (a German fruitcake). Mmm, I wish there was a German bakery out here...

Does Rick Springfield count? That was my first concert; I think I was 12.

You go, girl! Seriously, even with all the crap I've been through (mostly of my own doing), I wouldn't change a thing. It's been a fun life so far.

As parents always say... "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it too!" I'm sure God feels the same way.
